Episode 1
Despite the fact that I was on morning shift, I slept off and woke up so late on a beautiful Friday morningā¦. Donāt blame me, abeg body no be firewood. It must have been caused by a particular
sleep_pill I took the previous night ā¦.
Ā°Ā°
It was the phone call of
Nurse_Gbemisola that brought me back to life at exactly 7:45am, meaning that I was 45minutes behind official resumption time. She called to tell me that there was an emergency incident brought in to my hospital ( #Moyinoluwa_Glorious_Hospital) early that morning. Do I still need to tell u the nature of my job? Okay, I am a medical doctorā¦
Ā°
[ PHONE CONVERSATION WITH NURSE GBEMISOLA]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Good morning, doctor
.
DR SANYA: Good morning, nurse Gbemiā¦.
.
(She was sounding anxious and frightened on the phoneā¦. I noticed this)
.
DR SANYA: Nurse, is everything all right?.
.
NURSE GBEMI: (Stuttering) Yes,sirā¦.no, sirā¦. we have emergency, sir.
.
DR SANYA: Emergency? Is Dr Korede not around?
.
(Yes, Dr Korede was my assistant doctor)
.
NURSE GBEMI: Sir, itās almost 8am and he has gone homeā¦.According to him, he had an urgent domestic matter calling for his attention at homeā¦.. No sir, he had gone before d emergency was brought in ā¦.In fairness to him, sir he called your number severally but you didnāt pick upā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Whatās the nature of the emergency?
.
NURSE GBEMI: The patient was rushed in few minutes ago, complaining of chronic stomach acheā¦ā¦ Preliminary tests conducted on him through the collection of his blood and urine samples indicated that there is likely of food poisoningā¦.. We have done all that sir, still no improvementā¦ā¦ Presently, his condition is fast becoming a matter of life and death and Iām afraid that if urgent attention is not giving to him on time, we might lose him.
.
[ Yes, I got the messageā¦..Nurse Gbemisola was stylishly telling me to ensure I report in the hospital as quick as possibleā¦.. In my hospital, we attend to every patient just like our relativeā¦.That is why you see the passion in Nurse Gbemisolaās voice throughout our conversationā¦
.
DR SANYA: No problemā¦.. I will be on my way right away!
.
[ END OF CONVERSATIONā¦.. I dropped the phone at onceā¦. Due to the urgency attached to the condition, I couldnāt take my bathā¦., even the cup of coffee I had on the table couldnāt be attended toā¦.. I had to dressed up quickly unbathed, picked my 2015 Range Rover model Jeep keyā¦.(Do I also need to tell u that I am a prosperous medical doctor?)ā¦ā¦ #Laffs
ā¦.. I zoomed off straight to the hospital. I chose to go with d Range because I liked speeding with it, it makes speeding more comfortable for me. In my hospital, I donāt joke with #life_and_death issues and my nurses knew that.]
Ā°Ā°
On my way, I was on high speed, very high speed, almost 125km/hrā¦.. Then, time was exactly 8:07amā¦..Few minutes remainning to get to my hospital, my dadās call came in on my phone: I put on my phone earpiece to receive d call while I reduced d car speed, even though I knew that I should have parked asideā¦life no get duplicate:
.
[PHONE CONVERSATION with my dadā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Hello Dad
.
DAD: How are you, my boy?
.
( Yes! That was how my dad used to address meā¦.., at age 36, I was still his boy. Our parents sha, we no dey old for their handā¦)
.
DAD: I sent several calls to your phone last night but u never picked up
.
DR SANYA: Iām sorry, dad. I slept off.
.
DAD: Didnāt u see d missed calls when u woke up this morning?
.
DR SANYA: I couldnāt see them, dadā¦.. Last night, I took some pills which I believe were responsible for my deep sleepā¦..,in fact it was a distress call from one of my nurses that woke me up this morningā¦
.
DAD: (Jovially) So, you doctors do take drugs ā¦.
.
(We both laughed out loud)
.
DR DANYA: Doctors too are human!
.
DAD: I can hear d sound of passing vehiclesā¦. Are u not at home?
.
DR SANYA: As I am receiving this your call, I am on my way to the hospital to attend to a patient in emergencyā¦. Yes, d nurse who called said it was urgent.
.
DAD: In that case, let me release u to concentrate on drivingā¦.., u need to get to the patient on timeā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Thanks for the understanding, dad.
.
DAD: Call me whenever u are free, I have a very urgent matter to discuss with u.
.
DR SANYA: Itās all right, I will.
Ā°Ā°
[ Dad hung up before I could say d next wordā¦. Thatās my father for u, very understanding ā¦ā¦ But wait a minute, he said he had a very urgent matter to discuss with me, what could it be? Well, whatever it is, it can waitā¦.. I must get to the hospital as fast as I could since nurse Gbemisola wonāt stop calling inā¦ So, I increased my car speed, no time to waste timeā¦.., a matter of life and death is waiting for meā¦ā¦]
.
[ 3minutes later, I was driving into d hospital compoundā¦.. Now that I was in d hospital, what happened next?]
.
THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!!!
Episode 2
Chapter Title: THE STRUGGLE
Ā°
I drove into d hospital compound recklesslyā¦.. before I could park d car and alight, it was my most senior nurse (Nurse Gbemisola) that rushed out to me, looking so worried and downcast as if she had even lost hope on d manās survivalā¦ā¦ I ignored her look. She hardly allowed me to alight from the car before she started conversing with me:
.
NURSE GBEMI: Welcome Doctorā¦.. The patient is in d private ward 7
.
DR SANYA: All right, letās go!
Ā°Ā°We headed straight inside d hospitalā¦.. Getting inside, I saw a face at d reception, it was that of a pretty young lady in her late twentiesā¦., d face looked so familiarā¦.., she was worriedly pacing up and downā¦.. I needed no soothsayer to tell me that she must be related to d patient in question. Sighting each other, the lady and I had this impression on our faces that we had met before, but that moment wasnāt d best for introduction or petty talksā¦.. Nurse Gbemisola quickly introduced d lady to me:
.
NURSE GBEMI: (Pointing to d lady) Thatās d manās wife
.
DR SANYA: Okayā¦..
.
(She wanted to follow us into d room but I stopped her)
.
DR SANYA: Sorry madam, u wonāt be able to follow us insideā¦..
.
MADAM: (Almost crying) Please doctor, do everything u can to safe my husbandās life
.
DR SANYA: God will help us.
Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°
[Nurse Gbemisola and I quickly rushed into d roomā¦..d man had almost become totally unconsciousā¦.. Sighting him, I was shocked to my bone marrowā¦ā¦ He was a very good friend of mine back then in d university that I lost contact with immediately after our graduationā¦. letās even leave all that aside for now. Nurse Gbemisola noticed how troubled I was seeing d patient:
.
NURSE GBEMI: Doctor, is everything all right?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, Iām fine.
.
(I lied ā¦.. I was farrrrr from being fineā¦. I asked nurse Gbemisola to put a call through to my assistant, Dr Korede , which I saw her doingā¦.
.
DR SANYA: This patient must not die!
.
That statement shocked d nurse d more as if she had never heard me say such before, maybe it was because of d passion I put into it this timeā¦.
.
The battle to rescue d patientās life began ā¦..I asked more nurses to come into d ward for assistanceā¦.. I collected d reports of d various medical tests conducted on him previously before my arrivalā¦.., every one of them reported the same thing: our dieing patient had been poisonedā¦. I asked one of d nurses to bring me d manās cardā¦.. I saw d drugs he has been given so far and I continued from there, calling for different appropriate drugs to be brought in for me from d hospitalās pharmaceutical departmentā¦ā¦.We began passing different injections into both his body and the drip hung up for himā¦ā¦Lo and behold, my assistant is here, in person of Dr Koredeā¦..
.
But the patientās wife wasnāt even helping us, she kept intruding into our activities occasionally inside d room, demanding to see her husbandā¦ā¦ā¦ We had to assign a nurse to d entrance of d room to be stopping her intrusion, because even when we closed d door, she wonāt stop banging itā¦..Of course, we quite understood her emotions, we couldnāt just afford to be distracted for a secondā¦..
.
The battle for d survival of d man was a serious one and it lasted for almost 3hoursā¦ā¦but #unfortunately , at exactly 11:27am, we lost the man, I lost him, I lost a good friend. Did I just call him āa good friend?ā Yes, #Yusuf was a good friend!!!ā¦ā¦. Who was Yusuf really to me?
.
Even as a medical doctor, Yusufās death was so painful to meā¦ā¦I instructed nurse Gbemisola to park d manās body and told her to call his wife into my officeā¦.. Dr Korede followed me into my office on my instructionā¦..I had lost every courage and strength in me, so I needed him to help me break d ugly news to d wifeā¦ā¦
.Beyond our expectation, d wife came into my office boldlyā¦. and before we could start making use of our medical condolatory and consolatory words, she spoke out sharplyā¦.., hear what she said:
.
THE WIFE: Doctor, safe me all thisā¦.. He is dead, right? My love is gone?
.
[We were taken by surprise to d extent that we remained speechlessā¦..]
.
THE WIFE: (Had a deep breath) I knew itā¦. Since none of your nurses was ready to talk to me, I knew it that my life partner is goneā¦ā¦ (Started shedding tears uncontrollably)ā¦..Please doctor, can I see his remains?
.
DR KOREDE: We tried our best to safe himā¦.., believe me, we really did.
.
THE WIFE: Of course, I know u did, I saw almost everythingā¦.. Like I said earlier, can I see his remains?
.
DR KOREDE: Why not!ā¦..
.
[ Dr Korede ordered Nurse Gbemisola to take her to d ward which she didā¦ā¦Now, itās remainning Dr Korede and I inside my office:
.
DR KOREDE: But who could have killed d man, such an handsome man?
.
DR SANYA: (Looking so firm) That is one question I must find answer to, even if it will cost me d last drop of my bloodā¦
.
[ Dr Korede turned a sharp look at meā¦ā¦.]
.
DR KOREDE: Really?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, I mean every word in the statement u just heardā¦..
.
DR KOREDE: I can see he was a good friend indeed, in that case, u can count on my supportā¦.
.
[ I was so delighted to hear that from himā¦..I stood up and embraced himā¦Thatās Dr Korede for u, so supportiveā¦I have never had any regret bringing him in to work with meā¦ā¦]
.
DR KOREDE: As it is now, how do u intend to go about it?
.
DR SANYA: Believe me doctor, for now, I donāt know!
.
DR KOREDE: Maybe we need to first talk to d police about d deathā¦..
.
[ I remained speechless, looking so thoughtfulā¦ā¦]
.
DR KOREDE: Donāt u think we may have to go legal about it?
.
DR SANYA: No, I donāt think so! As it is now, we need to start talking with d wifeā¦..
.
DR KOREDE: Hmmmmmmā¦.. I get your point.
.
DR SANYA: On d death, we must know what she knows!!!
.
[My phone suddenly started ringing on d table infront of me, it was a phone call from my dadā¦ā¦That was when I even remembered that dad said he had something urgently important to discuss with meā¦ā¦..
Episode 3
Chapter Title: PAINFUL EXIT
Ā°Ā°
Ā°Ā°I was so reluctant to pick dadās call because I knew he wanted to have some talks with me, but I wasnāt in d mood to listen to himā¦ā¦ After d second ringing, Dr Korede picked my phone, checked d callerā¦..,I stored Dadās number with āBeloved fatherāā¦.. seeing it was my dad, he urged me to pick it:
.
DR KOREDE: Doctor, itās your father oā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Of course, I know.
.
(Dr Korede was looking puzzled)
.
DR KOREDE: You know??ā¦ā¦ Why then are u not picking it up?
.
DR SANYA: He wants to have some talks with me and I have told him that I will call him when I have the timeā¦..As you can see doc, now is not d best time
.
DR KOREDE: I get your point, but you may stillā¦.
.
[Lo and behold, my phone is ringing again and itās still my fatherā¦..]
.
DR KOREDE: Please, pick your callā¦ā¦ You can tell him u will call back laterā¦.
.
[ I agreed and I picked d callā¦ā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Hello, dad.
.
DAD: My boy, how are u?ā¦.
.
DR SANYA: I am not fine, dadā¦ā¦
.
DAD: (Inquisitively) Why? ā¦. Whatās d matter? Talk to me, boy!
.
DR SANYA: Since morning, things have not been rossy hereā¦.. Despite how much we tried, we still lost that patientā¦..
.
DAD: What!ā¦. Oh my God!!!ā¦.What actually was d nature of his sickness?
.
[ For my mind, I was asking myself if daddy actually called to discuss d manās death with meā¦]
.
DR SANYA: He wasnāt sick, he was poisoned
.
DAD: (Shocked) Holy Mary!!!ā¦.. But people are wicked shaā¦..
.
[ Dr Korede looked on at me]
.
DR SANYA: In fact, since morning, I have not been myself.
.
DAD: Habaa! Why that? Is that your first time of seeing somebody die? Or arenāt u a doctor any longer?
.
DR SANYA: Apart from d fact that d death was a painful one, he was an old friend of mine back in d university daysā¦ā¦ He was one old friend that I have been trying to re-establish contact with since graduation.
.
DAD: Really?
.
DR SANYA: Daddy, do u still remember d 300level student I told u risked his life to safe me from those cultists that kidnapped me when I was in d final year?
.
DAD: Of course, I rememberā¦ā¦ Donāt tell me he was d guyā¦
.
DR SANYA: He was, dad. For my sake, that young man was hospitalised for days due to some life-threatning injuries he sustained during my rescueā¦..Donāt forget I graduated few months later, after which I traveled out of d country before I came back for my #NYSCā¦..That was how I lost contact with him. Ever since then, I had been trying to get himā¦., only to see my helper this morning, struggling for his life right under my noseā¦..
.
[ I began to shed tearsā¦.Dr Korede moved closer to me and place a hand on my left shoulder in consolation ā¦.. I guessed Dr Korede too was just grabbing d real picture of who d late man, #Yusuf really was to meā¦.]
.
DAD: Well, he is gone. You Will have to put yourself together, God knows u tried your best. Please, life goes on!!!
.
DR SANYA: Thank u, daddy. You said in d morning that u have an important issue to discuss with meā¦.
.
DAD: Yes, it is true. But I am afraid, as it is now, u are not in d best of your moodā¦. I will so much love it if u can come home to see me tomorrow, good enough, today is Friday.
.
DR SANYA: Tomorrow?? Canāt it wait till next weekend?ā¦.. Alright, be expecting me tomorrow then, but I may not sleep over o
.
[ I resided in Ibadan and my home town is just 2hours drive to Ibadanā¦]
.
DAD: Thank u boy. I will definitely be expecting u
.
[END OF PHONE CONVERSATIONā¦. ]
.
DR KOREDE: So, u are travelling to your home town tomorrowā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Yes oo! I have to go and hear what dad has for meā¦. I have known him for d past 36years, he wonāt call u to see him if what he has for u is not important.
.
DR KOREDE: No problem bro, I will be here waiting for u while I handle every matter pertaining to your late friendā¦
.
DR SANYA: Yes, that reminds meā¦..tell d wife not to pay a kobo, let d payment be on me.
.
DR KOREDE: Sealed!
Ā°Ā°
Ā°Ā°I went back home that day so moodyā¦., every food I tried to eat was tasteless in my mouthā¦.. I managed to force myself to eat bread with fried egg before finding my bed to bid d day goodbye.
.
Right there on my bed, I began to have series of #flash_backs , from how I met Yusuf to how he rescued me, leaving him hospitalised for daysā¦ā¦ I went to visit him on d hospital bed and I was so keen to ask him why he risked his life to save mineā¦. His response was:
.
āToday, I #Yusuf was in d best position to help a brotherā¦..if I donāt do it, I may be helpless in d nearest future because I too may need the same brother on a matter of life and death. So bro, what I did for u is what u too can do for me if u too find me in a state of life and death.ā
.
I started shedding tears uncontrollablyā¦..To me, I have disappointed a #true_friend . My people, those are d words of my dearestlife_saver! He saved me when he had d opportunity but I couldnāt save him when it was my own turnā¦.. Now, u know what has actually broken my heart and why I said he never deserved to die in such manner. Who could have killed such a #kind_hearted man? WHAT A PAINFUL EXIT!!!
.
A_rare_gem_is_gone . But just as I have vowed, I wonāt leave any stone unturned,ā¦ā¦. whosoever was responsible for Yusufās untimely death will pay with his or her lifeā¦.., I was determined to avenge my friendās death as my own last respect for his personā¦..
.
Before I slept,ā¦.amidst tears, I thought about my meeting with my dad d next day while I put my phone in #silence_mode
and slept off.
Episode 4
Chapter Title: DOUBLE WAHALA
Ā°Ā°I woke up around half past one in d middle of d nightā¦ā¦, and d thought of all that happened during d day dominated my mindā¦.I tried endlessly to catch some sleep, but I couldnāt. The picture of d lifeless body of my dear friend (#Yusuf) kept on displaying itself in my medulla oblongata . Since I am a lover of good music, I later decided to listen to some musicals, at least to cool off the worry. I put in Terry Apala musical disc and I was relaxing with it. This continued till around 3am, believe me, I never knew when I slept off.
.I woke up at exactly 6:36amā¦. I took my bath and had my breakfast ā¦ Throughout this time, I never remembered to switch my phone to ringing mode, all that was in my mind was my journey to my townā¦..
Ā°
I wanted to call Dr Korede (my assistant in d office), that was when I remembered that I had not put my phone on ringing, I quickly did thatā¦..Lo and behold, I have had 15missed calls, 5 of them from Dr Korede and d rest fromMary ā¦ā¦ Mary was my fiancee of almost 5yearsā¦. She disliked her call not being pickedā¦ā¦So, that morning, I wasnāt ready for her wahalaā¦.,instead of returning her calls, I decided to call my assistant back:
.
DR SANYA: Hello doc
.
DR KOREDE: Bro, good morning. I have tried calling u this morningā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Donāt mind me jorrrā¦.my phone was in silence mode since last nightā¦..
.
DR KOREDE: I was calling to tell u that the wife of Yusuf came very early this morning to inform us that she and d deceasedās relatives would be coming to d hospital this morning to carry d manās remainsā¦..
.
[ Once again, my mood was spoiltā¦]
.
DR KOREDE: All right, thanks so muchā¦.. Please, donāt forget to help me tell those at d mortuary department that I said d woman shouldnāt pay a dime oā¦..All d expenses to be on me
.
DR KOREDE: Yes, all that has been taken care ofā¦. I even told her of your kind gestureā¦.She was so appreciativeā¦.. How about your journey home?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, I am almost setā¦.. Please, keep me in touch on phone as things are happening over thereā¦.
.
DR KOREDE: No problem, boss! ā¦.. Bye!
.
[ END OF PHONE CONVERSATIONā¦.. I had dropped d call before I remembered that I needed to contact Yusufās wife and I didnāt have her numberā¦ā¦ Well, I decided to check d deceasedās records at d hospital when Iām back, at least, I was sure that d woman will be his next-of-kin and definitely, d phone number of d next-of-kin would be thereā¦..I just simply relied on d hospital record.
.
Quickly, I had dressed up in a well-fitting native dress, even though I wasnāt in d mood for fashion that morning, still I knew that my dad wonāt want to see me not perfectly dress. So, that morning, I dressed to impress him. ā¦. I picked my car key and drove straight to my town, #Agodiagba townā¦.. I tried seriously not to be distracted on steering because the thought of how my best friend died right on my hospital bed wonāt leave my mindā¦.., I kept on playing different musicals, from Juju to Fuji and from Fuji to hip-hopā¦., at a time, I even switched to gospel music, Tope Alabi songs precisely, yet my worry never departed fromā¦.. I realised that driving in such condition of mind was dangerous and I knew that I must be alive to avenge my friendās painful death, so I reduced my speed and started driving on average speedā¦ā¦
.Exactly an hour into d journey, Maryās call came in on my phoneā¦. That was when I even remembered that I have not called her backā¦.. Donāt forget that Mary was my lovely fiancee in whom I was well pleasedā¦ā¦. Seeing her call, I knew it that I must be prepared for #verbal_war because throughout yesterday, I didnāt call and even when she called me last night, I didnāt pick her call, something she detest with passionā¦.In fact, if u are interested in my Maryās wrath, ignore her callsā¦..I assure u, you may not live to tell d story. Knowing all these, I decided not to still pick d call, dieing young was never in my options, so I had got to avoid her argument on steering because she would surely put me through rigorous questions on phoneā¦ā¦
.
23 minutes later, when I had thought that I had handled d matter well and wisely, a message came into my phone from my #Mary and it read thus:
.
āHi Sanyaā¦ā¦. Why are my calls left unpicked? Even if u are with them, courtesy still demands that u give me my own respect by picking my callā¦ā¦.No be your fault sha, a book held so close to d eyes can be very difficult to read.ā
.
I read d message, patiently digested it and slightly laughed over it without minding whatever her intention may be inside d messageā¦.Thatās Mary for u, since five years ago that we have been in d relationship, she has never trusted me for a dayā¦ā¦Well, enough of her stunt, I was used to itā¦ā¦ I concentrated on drivingā¦..The remainning part of d journey to my town went uneventful. Still no call from Dr Korede, my assistantā¦.. even my Mary never bothered me again with either call or messageā¦..Truly, I have missed her but what I was confronting at d moment which she never still knew about was so bigger than me.
.
45minutes after, I was in my townā¦ā¦ Straight to my dadās houseā¦ā¦ Our gatekeeper (Rashid, a.k.a Alomo) opened d gate for me and I drove inā¦.. I alighted from d car and went inside expectantly.
Ā°
My dad was so delighted to see that I kept to my promise of comingā¦.. Right there inside the living room, he stood up and gave me a long warmth #embrace. I could feel d passion inside a father-to-son relationship in d embrace and it really worked magic on my moody emotionsā¦.. He offered me seat and d following conversations ensued between usā¦ā¦..
Episode 5
Chapter Title: MY MARRIAGE
.I was very ready to listen to whatever my father has got to tell meā¦..Abi, wasnāt that what brought me home? After offering me seat, he looked on at me for a while before he asked me d first question:
.
DAD: So, how are things over there now?
.
DR SANYA: You mean in my hospital?
.
DAD: Yes, my boy
.
DR SANYA: The deceasedās family members are almost concluding arrangement on how to take his #corpse away for burialā¦.
.
[Dad shook head pitifullyā¦..]
.
DAD: What a pity!ā¦.. Sorry for d loss.
.
[For my mind, I started thinking of what I was home forā¦ā¦Seeing that Dad was more interested in d death of Yusuf, I decided to distract him to my purpose of coming homeā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Daddyā¦.U scared me when u insisted that I must come home for a special talkā¦.., especially when u said it was urgentā¦.
.
[ Daddy chuckledā¦., maintaining a #weak smileā¦.]
.
DAD: You donāt have to be scared, sonā¦.. it is for progressā¦.
.
[ At this point, dadās maid came inā¦..She knelt down and greeted meā¦.]
.
MAID: Good morning, sir
.
DR SANYA: Good morning, Christianaā¦..
How are u?
.
MAID: I am fine, sirā¦.. What do I offer you?
.
[For my mind, I said man shall not live by bread aloneā¦. ]
.
DR SANYA: Never mind, I am still okay for nowā¦.
.
[Daddy cut in]
.
DAD: For now, get him a bottle of chilled water.
.
[ I was so shocked by my dadās request for meā¦.Who told him that I was hot inside?ā¦..#Christiana left immediately to d refrigerator in d living roomā¦.. She respectfully poured some inside a glass cup for meā¦..She left. Indeed, d water calmed down my nerves and I was able to ask him my first reasonable questionā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Daddy, why am I in this town today?ā¦.
.
[The question was so direct and it seemed that daddy wasnāt finding it comfortable giving me a direct answerā¦.]
.
DAD: My boy, you are here because I want to talk to you about yourselfā¦.
.
[ I was shocked a bitā¦.but I needed to hide it to hear moreā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: About myself??
.
DAD:ā¦ā¦. Yes!
.
DR SANYA: Ok, I am listening to u, dad
.
DAD: It is about your marriageā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Oh my God!ā¦.. Marriage again, dad
.
[ Yes, that wasnāt d first time such topic would be coming up between us]
.
DAD: Yes, marriage againā¦ā¦Sanya, I am getting worriedā¦ā¦I am not happyā¦ā¦I donāt understand you
.
DR SANYA: But I have explained situation of things to u before nowā¦.
.
[Dad cut in]
.
DAD: That what?
.
DR SANYA: ā¦..that u should relax, I am bringing home the #right woman at d #right time.
.
DAD: What is your own definition of āright timeā??ā¦ā¦ Abi, when is your own right time coming??
.
[Dad was now becoming more impatient and his voice becoming louderā¦..]
.
DAD: Sanya, at age 36, you are still not at your ā right timeā??
.
DR SANYA: I get your point and I understand your worryā¦..
.
[ Daddy cut in sharply]
.
DAD: No, u donātā¦ā¦ If you do, you would have made me a proud father-in-law
.
DR SANYA: And u will soon be a proud oneā¦..
.
DAD: At what age of mine?ā¦ā¦Look son, you and I are not getting youngerā¦.. This year, I will be clocking 79years of age and you 37ā¦. If not for still-birth, you wouldnāt have been our one and only childā¦..
.
[That talk was going too emotional and so, I had to cut inā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Itās alright, dadā¦..Donāt go into that story againā¦.I promise to make u happy soon
.
[ That statement brought out broad smile from dadās mouthā¦..and I was a bit relievedā¦..]
.
Yes, indeed I am d only son and d only surviving child of Mr & #late Mrs Kalejaye Owokofaari. My mother died when I was still in d primary school, precisely primary 3 according to what I was told.
.
My loving father had since refused to re-marry despite numerous pressure from relatives. He insisted that he canāt stand d sight of another woman under his roofā¦ā¦
.
I may now be rich but I wasnāt from arich family, even though we were not
poor , just average. I understand my family story so much, even with that of my parents. But one thing that remained unclear to me was the circumstance surrounding my beloved late motherās death. Father had never bothered to explain that angle to me, in fact he didnāt always like it whenever I take discussion in that directionā¦ā¦.So, when I noticed d look on his face that he wasnāt still fully satisfied regarding my response and promise on my marriage issue, I had to change d gear of d discussion:
Ā°Ā°
DAD: When should I now be expecting to see my sonās wife-to-be???
.
DR SANYA: It wonāt be longā¦..
.
DAD: Woo my boy, ti e naa ni mo n ba e so. I donāt want people, especially your late motherās relatives to say that your not being married till now is due to dabsence of your mother
.
DR SANYA: Daddy, leave me with my motherās relativesā¦. Where were they when I was growing up?
.
DAD: But still, u are their son. They will ask me questions about uā¦.They deserve to know much about u from meā¦.
.
[ I cut in sharply again]
.
DR SANYA: Just the same way I deserve to know much about d cause of my motherās death
.
[ Daddy appeared #shocked and #sad at onceā¦.., may be he wasnāt expecting me to go in that direction againā¦..He hung down his head, itās like I have just hit him on d #softest part of his heartā¦.. In my mind, I began to pity him for d sad look on his face, but I had to say what I said to close d talk on marriage matterā¦ā¦]
.
Yes, at age 36, I knew I was ripe for marriageā¦.and of course, I wanted to get married but I have not been lucky enough to find a #compatible love-partnerā¦..Who know self maybe d beautiful ones have not been born. I heard u ooo: u said wasbeauty what I was searching for? Tell me, who no like better thing??ā¦ā¦. For now, my #Mary is okay for meā¦..but this her #hot_temperament was what was too big for me to handle, and that was why I havenāt even brought her home to meet my dad, not to talk of settlling down with herā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Dad, I am sorry if I have said anything to hurt uā¦..I promise to put smile on your face very soonā¦ā¦
.
[ Daddy stood up immediately with a broad smile on his face, coming in my direction with his hands widely spread for that warmth embrace againā¦..I stood up with him and got embracedā¦ā¦ I was happy he was happy againā¦.., holding me by d two hands nowā¦.]
.
DAD: Thanks boyā¦.One thing I have always wanted from uā¦.and that is happinessā¦..
.
[ Dad continued his #passionate talk with me till my phone started ringing in my pocket, he released my hand to pick my callā¦..Behold, it was a call fromDr_Korede ā¦.. Oh my God, in d last few minutes, I have totally forgotten about that side, dadās talk with me had taken my mind off my worry, Dr koredeās call just brought everything back to my memoryā¦ā¦, even my #Mary has not called me back sinceā¦.., her own wahala was still pendingā¦.]
.
What could Dr Korede wanted to tell me? I politely excused myself from my dad to pick his callā¦.

Chapter 6 (TOO MUCH TO CHEW)
Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°With d situation I left behind at d hospital, I couldnāt afford not to pick Dr Koredeās callā¦..Dad actually excused me, he went straight to his bedroom:
.
[PHONE CONVERSATION]
.
DR SANYA: Hello doc
.
DR KOREDE: Hi bossā¦..
.
DR SANYA: How is d situation of things over there?
.
DR KOREDE: Well, we are trying our best hereā¦..Are u at home now?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, at least for d past 30minutesā¦ sorry for not calling u since
.
DR KOREDE: Oh nooo!!ā¦.I understand.., I just hope all is well at home?
.
DR SANYA: All is well here!ā¦.How about d deceasedās family? Have they arrived for d body?
.
DR KOREDE: Not at allā¦.None of them is here yetā¦..
.
[ I checked my wrist watchā¦., d time was few minutes past 10amā¦]
.
DR KOREDE: But somebody is here who wants to speak with uā¦.
.
[ I felt a little bit uncomfortableā¦. who could that person beā¦. that couldnāt call me directly?ā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Who is d person, please?
.
[Dr Korede wasnāt patient enough to listen to my question, he had already handed d phone over to d personā¦..and d next cool voice I heard was that of a #femaleā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Yesā¦.good morning
.
[ Ohā¦. I recognised d owner of d voice straightawayā¦..What could she be doing at d hospital early in that morning?]
.
DR SANYA: Maryā¦.How are u?
.
[ Ladies and gentlemen, na my belovedMary ooooā¦.., my own troublesome Maryā¦. I braced up to face and answer her numerous questionsā¦.I have not been picking her calls of recent, so it is either I speak with her now or laterā¦..She remained calm on phone after she realised that I have known it was herā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Common dear, talk to me please!
.
MARY: Like what and what do u want to hear?
.
DR SANYA: I still deserve to know if u are fine now, for Godās sake, I am still your manā¦. I still need to know if #my_woman is fineā¦.
.
MARY: Sanya, how do u expect your so-called woman to be fine when her so-called man has neither been picking her calls nor calling her for d past #48hours?
.
[ I remained speechlessā¦.. She continuedā¦]
.
MARY: Oko iyawo, if u are not ashamed of this whole thing, I amā¦.Imaging, I am now speaking with my man on another manās phone all because my so-called man will not pick my call on his phoneā¦.
.
[Believe me guys, I felt badā¦..Mary has her ways of making someone feel sorry for his sins in a way u couldnāt have imaginedā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: I am sorry
.
MARY: Why did u keep me out of all that has been happening at your hospital?ā¦. Am I that useless that u donāt even believe I can be of great assistant at an #emotional_time like this?
.
[ At this juncture, I realised that she has well been briefed of all that has been happening so farā¦.Indeed, why havenāt I even told her?]
.
DR SANYA: Please dear, letās suspend this talk for nowā¦.Of course, in this, I am not a saint but please, let me come and explain things to u at home this eveningā¦I promise to pay u a visit at homeā¦
.
MARY: Are you coming back today?
.
DR SANYA: Of course, even if I donāt want to before, I must nowā¦.. I must come and present myself to u for necessary punishment and correctionā¦.
.
[ I noticed she smiled slightly but she never wanted me to realise itā¦.]
.
MARY: Na u sabbi
.
[ The next voice I heard was that of Dr Koredeā¦..]
.
DR KOREDE: It is wellā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Abi now, thatās woman for u
.
DR KOREDE: She came into d hospital this morning, looking so angry like a lioness that has not been fed for d past one weekā¦. She mounted so much pressure on me with so much of accusations and allegations that I didnāt even know when I started vomiting your whereabout to her.. , so donāt be annoyed please!
.
[ If Dr Korede could be talking about her like this, does that mean she is no more there?]
.
DR SANYA: Oh, not at all. I am not offended. Has she left that place?
.
DR KOREDE: Yes, she left immediately after handling d phone back to meā¦
.
DR SANYA: All rightā¦. and u said the deceasedās family has not shown upā¦
.
DR KOREDE: At all, I havenāt seen them, not even d wife
.
DR SANYA: OK then. I will be back this afternoon.
.
DR KOREDE: OK bossā¦.Have a safe journey back here
.
DR SANYA: Thanks a lot oreā¦. Later!
.
[ END OF PHONE CONVERSATIONā¦. ]
.
At that moment, my mind was completely off my hometownā¦. I needed to go back to Ibadan. Firstly, to settle scores with my #fiancĆ©e (Mary)ā¦.and secondly to monitor the burial of my beloved #life_safer (Yusuf) ā¦. and thirdly, I must commence my mission into d cause of Yusufās death as quick as possibleā¦..
.
I went straight into dadās bedroom to inform him that I would be travelling back to #Ibadan in d next few minutesā¦.. Contrary to what I had expected, daddy never argued with me over itā¦.He simply freed me, saying that I should promise him that I would act on all he had discuss with meā¦ā¦
Ā°Ā°Ā°
Can u imaging, so many things calling for my attentionā¦. Am I sure I am not biting more than I can chew???

Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°After speaking with my Mary on Dr Koredeās phone, I became restlessā¦.. I wanted to return to Ibadan as quick as possibleā¦..
.
Two hours later, at exactly 12:15pm, I gathered myself together to leave the town of #Agodiagba back to #Ibadanā¦.. My dad looked on at me as if I shouldnāt leave again, indeed I knew he was going to miss me, but what can I do? The situations over there in Ibadan were already missing meā¦ā¦.My dad and I were forced to bid ourselves farewellā¦, his gatekeeper (Alomo) opened d gate for me and I drove out ā¦..
.
My journey to Ibadan lasted for 2hours 12minutesā¦..Finally, I was in Ibadanā¦. I went straight to my hospitalā¦.. I had to resume duty so that Dr Korede too could go and catch some rest at homeā¦.. He was so happy to see me. He went home while I remainedā¦.
.
I was in my office at around after 2pm, going through certain files when I heard a knock on d doorā¦.. I asked d person in, lo and behold, it was d wife of d deceased (Yusuf)ā¦.. I was so surprised and at the same happy to see herā¦.I quickly offered her seat infront of meā¦.and we began to talk:
.
DR SANYA: You are welcome madam
.
MRS YUSUF: Thank u doctorā¦.
.
[ I needed to know why she had comeā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Is d family now ready for d corpse??
.
MRS YUSUF: Not at all. We are having a slight adjustment in d burial arrangement, and that is what I have come to notify d hospital since we have said we would be coming this morningā¦.
.
DR SANYA: It is okā¦. Just take your time, whenever u are ready, just notify usā¦.
.
MRS YUSUF: Thanks so much doctorā¦.. You have been so amazing since I brought my late husband here, even in his death, u remain #solid for him. The second doctor told me u said we are not owing d hospital a kobo, that all expenses are on youā¦.
.
[ I maintained a slight smileā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: All d glory be to God.
.
MRS YUSUF: But sir, something is not yet clear to meā¦.
.
[ I became so keen to know what she was trying to sayā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Whatās that?
.
MRS YUSUF: Sir, please donāt be offended by this my question o: please, why are u this kind to my family?
.
[ I maintained a #broad smileā¦.. it was a simple question with complex answer but I needed to be as brief as possible because the time for real talk has not comeā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Madam, I am not being kind to your family, I am simply honouring the memory of my dear friendā¦
.
[ The woman seemed confused d moreā¦]
.
MRS YUSUF: Your #dear friend?ā¦.Doctor, did u just called my #late husband your dear friend?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, he was my dear friendā¦..
.
MRS YUSUF: How? Have u guys met before now?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, we met while he was aliveā¦.
.
[ She looked on at me in total surprise.. ]
.
DR SANYA: You are surprisedā¦ā¦ Ok, let me shock you d moreā¦ I have once met u too before ā¦.. and that was before the day that u brought your husband hereā¦..
.
[ She hung down her head immediately, appearing to be trying to re-collect āwhereāā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: To shock u the moreā¦.. There is a scar on your thighā¦.
.
[ She, nodding in agreementā¦ā¦Mrs Yusuf opened her mouth in shock, looking at me as if she had seen a ghostā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: I hope u still remember how u got that scar?
.
MRS YUSUF: Yes, of courseā¦.
.
DR SANYA: You remember it was as a result of a bike accident u had back then in schoolā¦.., if u havenāt forgotten, u will remember that d accident claimed d life of d riderā¦..
.
[ In total shock, she stood up at once, came closer to my seat as she looked on speechlessly at meā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Yes, I might have forgotten your name, but I still remember everything about youā¦..
.
[ I stood up and moved closer to her tooā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Young woman, look at my face very wellā¦..Are u sure this face of mine is still totally strange to u??
.
[ She further moved closer to meā¦. We remain standing in front of each other, she looked on #deeply into my eye balls just to ascertain if she had ever come across me beforeā¦ā¦Few seconds later, she spoke out: ]
.
MRS YUSUF: Your face is not totally strange to me tooā¦.. But wait a minute, are u being kind because of me or because of my late husband??
.
[ What an intelligent question!]
.
DR SANYA: ( Frankly) Both
.
[ A knock was heard on d doorā¦I didnāt like d interruption because I was enjoying my conversation with Mrs Yusufā¦..All the same, I asked d person in, it was my most senior nurse, # nurse_Gbemisola ā¦.. She was sweating and shivering at the same timeā¦.. What could the problem be? I asked myselfā¦..Both Mrs Yusuf and I looked on at her expectantly to start talkingā¦]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Oh doctorā¦. U have a visitorā¦ Please sir, I need to talk to u
.
DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemi, what is d matter?
.
[ She remained #speechless rather than talking, she was just #shiveringā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Common, talk meā¦
.
NURSE GBEMI: (Shivering) I need to talk to u sirā¦
.
DR SANYA: And this is me before u, so start talkingā¦..
.
What could this nurse have seen to warrant the kind of shock on her, as a matter of fact, she was a senior nurse, meaning that even if they have brought accident victims in, she shouldnāt be displaying such #drama ā¦.. Or has Yusuf risen from d dead? ā¦. So many thoughts on my mind within secondsā¦..
.
[Nurse Gbemi turned to look at Mrs Yusufā¦.. Mrs Yusuf, on her own side got d message, she stood up to leaveā¦.]
.
MRS YUSUF: Doctor, let me excuse uā¦..
.
[ Mrs Yusuf left us there and closed d door before I could alter a wordā¦..I stood up immediately]
.
DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemi, for Godās sake, can u tell me what is happening here?
.
NURSE GBEMI: (Still shivering in sweat) Doctor, theā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦

nurse_Gbemisola to be shaking like a leaf on waterā¦. I was confused as I looked on at her, even my body was becoming too heavy on my feet due to #fear_of_unknownā¦ā¦.Since Mrs Yusuf had excused us, I angrily moved closer to Nurse Gbemi, looking her sternly in d eye ballsā¦.. Finally, she summoned d courage to talk:
.
NURSE GBEMI: Doctor, the relatives of that deceased man are hereā¦.
.
DR SANYA: What! The family members are here and u are shivering like thisā¦..And is that what u couldnāt say in d presence of d deceasedās wife? For Godās sake, if d family is here, then why are u this scared?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Not at all sir, I am not scared o
.
[ Is it true that she wasnāt scared? I began to get more worriedā¦.. itās like there is something happening that I wasnāt grappingā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemi, is there anything that u need to start telling me now??
.
NURSE GBEMI: (Still #shaking ) Nothing, sirā¦.
.
[ I looked at her for a whileā¦,after few seconds of #silence ā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Where are the relatives now?
.
They are at d reception, sir
.
DR SANYA: Take me to them
.
[ Nurse Gbemi led d way and I followedā¦.Getting to d reception, indeed I met a group of people there, 3 old men and two young women in their fourties ā¦..I saw Mrs Yusuf at another side, discussing with a young manā¦ the two of them appeared to be so carried away with whatever they are talking aboutā¦.. Nurse Gbemi returned to her seat, still shaking in fear as she kept a watchful eye on Mrs Yusuf and d man she was discussing withā¦. while I started exchanging pleasantries with d relativesā¦ā¦After d normal greetings, I asked them to follow me to my officeā¦ā¦ They were already on their seats in my office before I realised that Mrs Yusuf and that young man she was discussing with were not yet with us on seatā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Once again, u are all welcomeā¦., but before we proceed, I will really want d wife of d deceased to be on seatā¦.
.
MAN 1: Even Rasaq is not hereā¦.
.
[ Hmmmmm, I started thinking #Rasaq must be the name of d young man Mrs Yusuf was discussing withā¦.]
.
MAN 2: I saw them discussing at d reception before we came hereā¦..
.
[ Brilliant!ā¦. I was rightā¦.. Suddenly, we heard a knock on d door, it was Mrs Yusufā¦.. She rushed inside, appearing not to be at peaceā¦..]
.
MAN 1: You are d one we have been waiting for
.
[ Instead of replying him, she turned to meā¦]
.
MRS YUSUF: Doctor, please can I talk with u privately?
.
[ I sensed something to be terribly wrong somewhere, moreso that the man I saw with her at d reception was not in with her.. So, I quickly excused myself from d other relatives to attend to herā¦ I noticed confusion on d faces of d relatives on seat, they too were suspecting that all was not wellā¦..Well, Mrs Yusuf and I both went out of d office to d passage that leads to my officeā¦ā¦At d passage, rather than talking, she appeared terribly angryā¦..Initially, I thought I was d cause but I had a second thought that what could I have done wrongā¦ā¦This is a woman who had been very free in speech with me before d arrival of d relatives, so what could have #suddenly gone wrong? Since she wasnāt ready to talk, I decided to break d silenceā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Madam, why are we hereā¦.?
.
[ She wasnāt still talkingā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Madam, are u sure u are all right?
.
MRS YUSUF: (#Angrily ) Doctor, how can I be okay when I just discovered that one of your nurses here was once anex_girlfriend of my #late husband who died under serious circumstances right here in your hospitalā¦..??
.
[ I was almost speechless but I have got to put alphabets together to make d right wordsā¦I hope this woman is not trying to implicate my hospital in the death of her husband who died of food poisoning?]
.
DR SANYA: Who among my female staff?
.
MRS YUSUF: Your so-called most senior, of course!
.
DR SANYA: You mean nurse Gbemisolaā¦..??
.
[ The man I saw Mrs Yusuf discussing with suddenly broke into our discussion from behind usā¦.]
.
RASAQ: I donāt know her name but Gbemisola may be itā¦.. What I know is that we can recognise each other when we meetā¦.
.
DR SANYA: You can recognise her as who?
.
RASAQ: As d #ex_girlfriend of this my sisterā¦.
.
[ I was confused ā¦. I donāt just know what else to say or doā¦.. Even if nurse Gbemisola was d late manās ex-girlfriend, whatās the big deal in it? They are bothadults for crying out loudā¦..What is d need of making a #breaking_news out of it? Letās even assume he must talk, for Godās sake, is this d right time?? Abi, why is this man acting so uncivilised?ā¦ā¦All these were what I had in mind towards themā¦ā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Well, I will want us to take things easy at this junctureā¦ This nurse we are talking about is an adult, likewise your late husbandā¦ā¦. So, in my own view, the death of your husband is still freshā¦..,and I donāt think making trouble with a lady over your late husbandās death is d right way to honour his memoryā¦..
.
[ Mrs Yusuf cut in #angrily]
.
MRS YUSUF: Doctor, u donāt seem to know d best way to honour my late husbandās memoryā¦., because if u do, u will know that calling the nurse to answer some #salient questions regarding my husbandās death is d best way to honour his memoryā¦..
.
[ For Godās sake, whatās happening here? Is nurse Gbemisola having something to do with Yusufās death? ā¦.. I still canāt believe thisā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Please my people, letās not jump into hasty conclusion hereā¦..
.
[ Rasaq too cut in ]
.
RASAQ: Doctor, my name is Rasaqā¦.Nobody is jumping into any conclusion yet. For now, we donāt even know what to conclude with until d nurse answers some questions as said earlierā¦
.
[ Mrs Yusuf kept nodding to what Mr Rasaq was sayingā¦.]
.
MR RASAQ: To me now, it seems u are d one jumping into quick conclusion for now
.
MRS YUSUF: Doctor, have u asked yourself why this nurse in question was shivering in #fear d moment she saw this my brother in company of other family membersā¦..??
.
[ Hmmmmm, Mrs Yusuf has a point thereā¦ā¦But what could nurse Gbemisola be hiding? She was even d one who #passionately called me to come and attend to him when d man was freshly brought inā¦..I checked my wrist watch, the time was already half past four in d eveningā¦..I needed to free these people on time so that I could have time to attend to my lovely #Mary as promised when I was in my hometownā¦..As it is now, I donāt even know what they came forā¦ā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Okay, I am beginning to understand your point ā¦.. Just as I was telling u in the office d other time, your late husband was my good friend, a life saver! So, nothing else can delight my soul as knowing d circumstances surrounding his death. But as it is now, this path we want to thread is not known yet to other family members. So, I will advise we attend to why you are all here in d first place, then maybe by tomorrow, you can come back to sort other things out. I promise you that on this, you have my support and total co-operation.
.
[ I was so glad to know that I have finally been able to calm them downā¦. They agreed to come the following day on the agreement that I must not let d nurse have d idea of all we talked about till they are finally around the following dayā¦..]
.
We all went back inside my office to meet the other family members who had anxiously been waiting for usā¦. They asked us what d matter wasā¦. We were so smart enough to quickly cook a #delicious_lie for them which they all swallowed.
.
The relatives and I really talked at lengthā¦. They came to d hospital to get first hand information regarding the cause of death of their son (Yusuf). After telling them the necessary things that they needed to know, I gave them d deceasedās #death_certificate and they departed.
.
At around 6:15 in d evening, I was already alone in d office, even nurse Gbemisola who was on afternoon duty has gone home. I began to think: is it true that my own nurse Gbemisola knew d late Mr Yusuf when he was alive and she never talked about it to me, even despite how intimate we are?ā¦.. Believe me, I donāt want to think of maybe she has a hand in Yusufās death because the nurse Gbemisola that I know, canāt even hurt a cockroach, not to talk of taking d life of a fellow human beingā¦..
.
Suddenly, #Maryās message came into my phone, it was even d alert of it that brought me back into consciousnessā¦..The message says: HONEY, IāM PASSIONATELY EXPECTING Uā¦..
.
Yes, itās time now to attend to mylove _lifeā¦.. I cleared my table and drove out of d hospital premises, straight to my Sweetieās houseā¦.., but on my way, right inside the car, I never forgot to call Dr Korede (my assistant ), he too must know where matter don reach in d hospitalā¦ā¦.
Time to catch some fun with my pretty Mary is now. By tomorrow, I shall find out d #truth_within from nurse Gbemisola.
Episode 9
( SHADOW OF TRUTH)
Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°I got to #Mary ās place at exactly 7:05 in d eveningā¦.. Just like every other ladies will act, she complained that I came so lateā¦..
.
MARY: This one u are coming this late, know for sure that u are sleeping over at my place o
.
DR SANYA: (Jokingly) Is that an order or a request?
.
[We both laughed over itā¦ She came straight to sit beside me, with her hand across my neck to my shoulderā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Relax, I am sleeping over
.
MARY: (Amidst broad smile) Thatās why I love u, dearā¦.. But please, never hide whatever u are passing through away from me again oā¦. When u refused to pick my calls, I had to pay your hospital an #unscheduled visit to see things for myself but I got myself disapointed when I met your absenceā¦.
.
.
MARY: Thank God for Dr Korede who shed light on everything for meā¦.
.
DR SANYA: I am sorry honeyā¦. I allowed d situation to get the better part of meā¦. You remain my #strenght, so I should have carried u alongā¦. Forgive me!
.
MARY: On one conditionā¦
.
DR SANYA: And whatās d condition?.
.
[ Before I could blink my eyes, Mary had presented her #sexy lips for me to kissā¦]
.
MARY: Connect your lips with mineā¦.
.
[ Whaooo, if thatās d condition, then I will be willing to do it over and over againā¦.. I planted a prolonged #passionate kiss on her lipsā¦.., before we could control it, it all led to a hot session of #romance which eventually led to what we never planned for. Are u asking me what it led to? Abeg, ask d gods!]
.
That was d end of d conflict between my Mary and Iā¦. She had prepared a sumptuous dinner for d two of usā¦. So, after taking a shower, we both visited d dinning table. If u are looking for who should be given d award of d best female cook of d year in Africa, donāt look too far, a taste of what my Mary prepared as dinner that evening would convince you that she is d best choiceā¦ā¦ At d dinning table:
.
MARY: So, has the case of d manās death been reported to d police?
.
DR SANYA: Not yet, dear.
.
MARY: But why?
.
DR SANYA: Baby, itās not my decision to makeā¦. The family came to the hospital this eveningā¦ Initially, I thought they came for d body, until they told me they needed their sonās #autopsy report and death certificateā¦.. Since they now have those papers, the ball is in their court.
.
[ Mary had a deep breathā¦.]
.
MARY: I seeā¦. But who could have killed him?
.
DR SANYA: Thatās exactly d question I am determined to find answer to, not minding what it will cost meā¦.
.
MARY: Really?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, of courseā¦. Didnāt Dr Korede tell u who I said d man was to me?
.
MARY: He told me everythingā¦., but just be careful. In a situation like this, u never can trust anybodyā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Exactly! By tomorrow morning, the deceasedās wife with a man she called her brother will be coming to d hospital tomorrow to question one of my nurses on her relationship with d deceased while he was aliveā¦.
.
[ Mary appeared slightly amazed]
.
MARY: What! Who among them?
.
DR SANYA: My most senior nurse of course, nurse Gbemisola
.
MARY: But wait a minute dear, what has her relationship with d deceased while he was alive got to do with his death?
.
DR SANYA: The detail of d whole thing is still sketchy for now. Iām sure by tomorrow, everything will be clearer!
.
MARY: Na wa ohā¦.But the nurse Gbemisola I know doesnāt look like someone who can hurt a fly, not to talk of a fellow human beingā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Nobody is accusing her yet of having a hand in d manās deathā¦.. But from her #body_language when she saw d family members, I suspect her, she must definitely have a lot to explain come tomorrow
.
MARY: What if d wife decides to come with police tomorrow?
.
DR SANYA: Itās okayā¦. I am not going to stand in the way of their investigation. I am equally interested in knowing d brain behind d painful death of my dear friendā¦ā¦
.
[ My phone suddenly started ringing, it was a call from my #dad ā¦. I picked d call immediately]
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
DR SANYA: Hello dadā¦. Good evening, sir
.
DAD: How are u doing, my boy?
.
DR SANYA: Your boy is fine, dad
.
DAD: How about your journey back to Ibadan, hope it wasnāt stressful?
.
DR SANYA: Not at all, dad. I should have called u since to tell u about my safe arrival but d situation I met here demanded full attention
.
DAD: I understand. Thatās d nature of your job for u. Itās a thing of pride to be a life saver!ā¦.. Just donāt forget all that we discussed together, I need something positive from you soon
.
DR SANYA: No problem, I assure you that u wonāt wait too long, dad
.
DAD: Thank u, boy. Enjoy d rest of your evening. Bye!
.
DR SANYA: Bye, dad
.
[ End of #phone_conversation ā¦.]
.
MARY: I guess that was your father
.
DR SANYA: Yapā¦. He wants to meet you
.
MARY: And what is still stopping u from taking me to my #father_in_law to-be?
.
DR SANYA: You
.
[She appeared puzzled]
.
MARY: How is it me?
.
DR SANYA: When am I meeting your people dear?
.
[ Mary burst into a broad laughterā¦..She was still on d laughter when my phone began to ring againā¦ā¦ Checking for the callerās identity, it was an unstored numberā¦..I picked d call:
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
DR SANYA: Helloā¦. Please, who am I speaking with?
.
MRS YUSUF: Itās me, the wife-to-be of d deceased man in your hospitalā¦.
.
[ Whaoooā¦.. So, they havenāt #legally marriedā¦. But how did she get my number because I canāt remember exchanging digits with herā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Oh madam, good evening.
.
[ I never wanted to ask her how she got my contact in order not to embarrass herā¦.]
.
MRS YUSUF: I got your number from one of d nurses when we were leaving the other time. I just hope my call isnāt disturbing u in any way?
.
DR SANYA: Oh noo! I just hope u are okayā¦
.
MRS YUSUF: Yes, I am fine. I am calling just to express my appreciation to u for your co-operation so far.
.
DR SANYA: We are in this togetherā¦. The culprit must be brought to justice
.
MRS YUSUF: Thank u doctor.
.
DR SANYA: You are welcomeā¦.. See u tomorrow at d hospital
.
MRS YUSUF: Sure! Thanksā¦. Bye!
.
[End of PHONE CONVERSATION]
.
MARY: Who was that?
.
DR SANYA: The wife of d deceased
.
MARY: Really? Why did she call u?
.
[ I havenāt answered d question when my phone started ringing againā¦ā¦, lo and behold, it was #nurse_Gbemisola that was calling this time around. What could she be calling for? So, I picked d call to hear her out:
.
DR SANYA: Hello nurse Gbemisolaā¦.
.
NURSE GBEMI: Good evening, doctorā¦.. I am fine, thank u sir.
.
DR SANYA: Okayā¦.. So, what can I do for u?
.
NUSRE GBEMI: Sir, I need a favour from uā¦ā¦..

.
NURSE GBEMI: Hello sir, are u there?
.
DR SANYA: Iām with u
.
NURSE GBEMI: Please sir, I seriously need your favourā¦..
.
DR SANYA: How?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Helloā¦ Hello doctorā¦
.
DR SANYA: Hello nurse Gbemisolaā¦.hello ā¦ can u hear me?
.
[ Network don dey do ojoro for me oooā¦..Her voice was just skippingā¦ she wasnāt audible any longerā¦.What else could I do? I had to hang up. My belief was that she would call back but she never didā¦.Mary and I were so surprisedā¦
.
MARY: Now that she is not calling back, I guess she is trying to have d second thoughtā¦., probably not needing your so-called favour againā¦..
.
DR SANYA: What is even painful to me is d fact that I donāt know d nature of d favour she wants from meā¦.
.
MARY: In that case, call her back!
.
[ I found sense in what Mary saidā¦.So, I decided to call her back: ]
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
NURSE GBEMI: Hello doctorā¦. I am fine, thank u sir
.
DR SANYA: The network was bad d other time, I couldnāt hear what u were sayingā¦.
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes, I could notice it too sirā¦ I even tried calling back but d network was extremely poorā¦.
.
DR SANYA: You were almost asking for my favour before d network went that badā¦ā¦
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes doctorā¦.
.
DR SANYA: What kind of favour?
.
NURSE GBEMI: I need your permission to be #off from work tomorrow sirā¦ā¦Nurse Feyisetan has already agreed to stand in for meā¦.
.
DR SANYA: So, you have chosen who will stand in for u, even when I havenāt granted d permissionā¦.
.
[ Nurse Gbemi sounded a little bit scaredā¦.]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Not exactly like that sirā¦. I was only trying to have all logistics in place before coming up with d requestā¦.. I am very sorry, sir
.
DR SANYA: Itās all right ā¦ So, can I know what is taking u away from work tomorrow?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Itās my health, sir
.
DR SANYA: Your health??
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes sirā¦. I have a #chronic stomach ache
.
[ I began to think about itā¦.. if this lady is indeed having a #chronic stomach ache, how come her voice is this clear? Or has she forgotten that I am a medical doctor?]
.
DR SANYA: Since when?
.
NURSE GBEMI: It began about 2hours ago
.
[ Well, who am I to say she was lieing?]
.
DR SANYA: It is well. I hope u have been able to take medications?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes, I have.
.
DR SANYA: I think itās even too early to start taking permission to be off from work tomorrowā¦. abi, who says u wonāt be fine by tomorrow morning when u wake up? Abi, didnāt u say u took medications?
.
[ I couldnāt get any response from her]
.
DR SANYA: Well, letās not forget that I am a medical doctor. So, I will like to see u tomorrow in office to assess your condition myself. I will be the one to determine if u need bed-rest or not. Is that okay by u?
.
[ She was #silent ā¦. My Mary looked on at meā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Are u still there?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes sir, I am hereā¦.
.
DR SANYA: So, why then didnāt u answer me?
.
NURSE GBEMI: I did, sir
.
[ From all these, even a fool wouldeasily conclude that something was not adding upā¦. ]
.
DR SANYA: Let me see u in office tomorrowā¦. You canāt be a judge in your own case, it is even against our professional ethics
.
NURSE GBEMI: All right, sir. See u tomorrow morning in office
.
DR SANYA: Good!!!ā¦ Bye!
.
[ #End_Of_Phone_Conversation ā¦..]
.
MARY: It was difficult for u to grant her permissionā¦
.
DR SANYA: How could I? Canāt u see d #handwritings on the wall that the lady is hiding a lotā¦..Besides that, what genuine excuse can I give to those coming to question her tomorrow if she is suddenly not at work tomorrowā¦..??
.
MARY: Hmmmm. I canāt wait to hear d questions those people have for herā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Same here. Tomorrow is pregnant.
.
Mary and I talked extensively that night before we finally called it a day in d bedroom.
.
I had a sweet night rest. It was Dr Koredeās call that woke me up at around 6:38 in d morningā¦..
.
DR KOREDE: Good morning, doc. I can observe that my call woke u upā¦. Sorry about that.
.
DR SANYA: Oh no, itās nothing. How was your own night?
.
DR KOREDE: Not good, boss!
.
[ I was shocked to hear that, so I sat down properly on d bedā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: What do u mean by that, please?
.
DR KOREDE: Doctor, last night, I had adream .
.
DR SANYA: A dream?
.
DR KOREDE: Yes, a dreamā¦..a disturbing one for that matterā¦., and thatās why I am calling u early this morningā¦.
.
[ I somehow became so eager to listen to what he has for meā¦..Mary has woken up, looking at me in the eyesā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: And whatās d dream all about?
.
DR KOREDE: Itās about our own nurse Gbemisolaā¦..
.
DR SANYA: (Anxiously) Okay, I am listening please!
.
DR KOREDE: Doctor, the dream is not what I can be discussing with u on phone. But the #bottomline is that I think itās not safe for us to allow nurse Gbemisola to face those deceasedās relatives aloneā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Of course, we canāt leave her alone with them, she is still our employeeā¦.
.
DR KOREDE: Yes, I know she is. But I am still suggesting it will be safer to hear her out first before she faces d panel of those people. In fact, that is why I am calling this early to arrange for thatā¦..
.
DR SANYA: I get your point. Send a call through to her. Tell her to meet us in d office before 7:30 this morning
.
DR KOREDE: Good. See u soon doc.
.
[ #End_of_conversation ]
.
DR SANYA: Dr Korede is of the opinion that we meet nurse Gbemisola first before she meets the deceasedās familyā¦..
.
MARY: Are u sure u can trust this your assistant that much??
.
DR SANYA: I donāt know,ā¦..believe me, I am confusedā¦..because basing it on a mere dream is what is worrying me right now ā¦ā¦
.
MARY: A dream?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, a dream! Dr Korede said he had a dream last night
.
MARY: Whatās the dream all about?
.
DR SANYA: He wouldnāt tell me until we meet tomorrow in officeā¦ā¦
.
[ Mary looked on #speechlessly at meā¦. I stood up to hurry up into the bathroom without knowing what d day has as revelations for meā¦.But with all the facts on ground, I knew that the day was #pregnant.]

My Mary called for # morning_prayer ā¦., even though I was fully in haste, still I waited patiently for prayersā¦.. I no dey joke with prayers o, especially on a day like that, I needed God the most. After the prayers, I received my normal kiss from my angel and I zoomed offā¦ā¦..
.
On my way to d office, I called Dr Koredeā¦..he too said he was on his way to d hospitalā¦ā¦
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
DR SANYA: What of Nurse Gbemisola? Were u able to reach her?
.
DR KOREDE: Yes, she called about 5minutes ago to tell me that she was already at work
.
DR SANYA: Brilliant!!!ā¦.. See u soon
.
[END OF PHONE CONVERSATIONā¦..]
.
10minutes after, I was at d hospitalā¦.., Dr Korede had arrived before me, I met him seated with Gbemisola right in my officeā¦.. Seeing me arrived too, she started acting #uneasyā¦.She greeted me and I responded with a broad smile just to ease her unnecessary tensionā¦. I calmly took my seat infront of meā¦..I commenced d conversation sharplyā¦. we must conclude our own part of d talk before d wife and her brother arriveā¦.. Nurse Gbemisola expectantly looked on at Dr Korede and Iā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemisola, I know u are wondering why we are here like thisā¦
.
[ She nodded in affirmation]
.
DR SANYA: Well, we need to round off our own talk quickly because #they will soon be here to question u
.
[ Nurse Gbemi looked puzzled, not knowing what we are actually talking aboutā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Please doctor, who are the ātheyā?
.
DR SANYA: I am talking of d deceased wife and that her brother u saw her talked with yesterdayā¦.
.
[ I had thought she would still be confused of what I meant, but instead, she hung down her head, meaning she realised that d cat must have been let out of the bagā¦..I turned a #knowing_look at Dr Korede who too looked surprisedā¦ Silence existed for a whileā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemisola, did u kill him?
.
[ She looked up sharply at me]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Is that what uncle Rasaq believed?
.
DR KOREDE: Who is uncle Rasaq?
.
NURSE GBEMI: The man the deceasedās wife spoke with yesterdayā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Yes, the same man I told u aboutā¦.
.
DR KOREDE: Oh, I see.
.
NURSE GBEMI: I didnāt kill himā¦.
.
DR SANYA: So, u truly knew the deceasedā¦.
.
[ She hung her head down again, with her eyes #suffused with tearsā¦.]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes, I didā¦.but letās get it straight, I did not kill himā¦. I canāt kill
.
DR KOREDE: Yes, we know u canāt killā¦. We trust u
.
DR SANYA: Who killed him?
.
[ She had a deep breath]
.
NURSE GBEMI: I canāt answer that question, sir. Mr Yusuf died of food poisoningā¦.The wife lived with him, so she is in the best position to explain how her husband got poisoned through food.
.
[Yes, I think nurse Gbemi has a point thereā¦..How could she have poisoned someone she didnāt live with?]
.
DR KOREDE: Since when have u known himā¦..
.
[ I cut in ]
.
DR SANYA: And when last did u see him before he was rushed in here?
.
NURSE GBEMI: We met in the year 2017, June preciselyā¦.
.
DR SANYA: ā¦ā¦.meaning that u guys were only together for just a yearā¦..
.
NURSE GBEMI: Not up to a year, sir. The last time I saw him was in December last year
.
DR KOREDE: We are in year 2018ā¦ Does that mean that the relationship lasted for just 6months?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes, doctor
.
DR SANYA: Why?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Itās a long story, sir. I will suggest we reserve how I met Yusuf and what transpired thereafter till d wife comes with her so-called questionsā¦.
.
[ I was amazed. It seemed nurse Gbemi was growing fast in #confidence as d questioning proceededā¦.. Where was her confidence coming from? Did that mean that she didnāt kill Yusuf? ā¦ā¦because only the righteous can be as bold as lion.]
.Dr Korede and I were totally short of d next question to ask herā¦..so, silence existed for a whileā¦.
.
DR KOREDE: As it is now, just be careful with the way u answer their questions when they are hereā¦.
.
NURSE GBEMI: OK, doctorā¦ thank u sir.
.
[ A phone call came into Dr Koredeās phoneā¦..,he excused himself out of d office to pick the callā¦.., remainning only nurse Gbemi and I aloneā¦..]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Doctorā¦
.
DR SANYA: Yesā¦I am with u
.
NURSE GBEMI: You asked me the other time if I killed Mr Yusufā¦
.
DR SANYA: Yesā¦.
.
NURSE GBEMI: Mr Yusuf was a wicked manā¦.., very deceitful. He hurt me on so many occasionsā¦., he let me down for no reason so many timesā¦, he left me downcastedā¦ I almost committed suicide for his sakeā¦.
.
[ I was confused, I never knew where she was heading to in d talkā¦.but I listened patiently]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Despite all these, I never for once thought evil of himā¦. But sir, right now, itās dawning on me that Mr Yusuf could have been careless not to know that the enemy #within could be more dreadful than the enemy #outsideā¦
.
DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemisola, why are you talking in parables? The more u talk, the more I get confusedā¦.
.
NURSE GBEMI: I know. The deceased wife has so many questions to answer from meā¦. I am just praying they decide to come with policemen.
.
DR SANYA: Hmmmm. Are u in any way saying that d wife could have a hand in the husbandās death?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Believe me sir, I donāt knowā¦.but I know that her responses to some questions I have for her will definitely lead us to d real #murderer
.
DR SANYA: Are u sure?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Double sure, sir. It is she versus I.
.
At this juncture, I knew that the battle-line was drawn and I couldnāt wait to witness d forth-coming battle between the two ladiesā¦.. But I was still confused of certain things: #Firstly, where did nurse Gbemi get this sudden #boldness with which she wanted to confront d wife? #Secondly , she never said all these when Dr Korede was on seatā¦. why? #Thirdly, what could her questions be for Mrs Yusuf? Hmmmmmmm Definitely, we are in for a long thing!!!
.
NURSE GBEMI: Permit me to take my leave now, sir. I shall be waiting for themā¦.
.
[ Her #sudden confidence dazed meā¦.. I remained speechlessā¦.Dr Korede never bothered coming in again after receiving his call, I didnt know why shaā¦..She stood up to leaveā¦. but as she approached d door, my phone began to ringā¦..I picked it up, it was a call from Mrs Yusufā¦.]
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
DR SANYA: Good morning, madam
.
[ Hearing the word āmadamā, nurse Gbemi stood still at d entrance, listening to the conversationā¦.]
.
MRS YUSUF: We are on our wayā¦. I hope you are in office already?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, I am
.
MRS YUSUF: What about her?
.
[ I looked at nurse Gbemi in the eyesā¦.she got the message and she smiledā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: She too is availableā¦. All rightā¦.See u soon.
.
[ #End_Of_Conversation ā¦. ]
.
DR SANYA: They are coming!
.
NURSE GBEMI: No wahalaā¦. I shall be waiting for them!
.
[ Nurse Gbemisola walked out of my office immediatelyā¦.. I looked on so baffled, not knowing the questions these two ladies had for each otherā¦..]

The battle of words was between Mrs Yusuf and nurse Gbemisolaā¦.. Before nurse Gbemisola left my office, she told me she was #confidently ready to meet the deceasedās wife, I continued attending to other important issues.
.
At exactly 10:05 in d morning, one of my nurses came into my office to tell me that the expected visitors were aroundā¦.I told her to bring them inā¦. Instantly, I called Dr Korede, informing him of their arrival and he promised to join us in a jiffyā¦.. I adjusted myself on seat to face the #unprecedented talk.
.
Rasaq, the brother to Mrs Yusuf walked in at once with d deceasedās wifeā¦.. Contrary to what I had expected, they were looking friendly, smiling broadly as they exchanged pleasantries with meā¦.. To even disappoint nurse Gbemisola, they did not come with #policemenā¦.I offered them seatsā¦., as they were sitting down, Dr Korede and nurse Gbemisola walked inā¦., seeing the joyful mood they met us, they too relaxed a bitā¦..I began to ask myself what could have been responsible for the joyful mood they came in with, because when they were leaving the previous day, they left in #tensed moodā¦.. Well, since every involved person was present, the show must commenceā¦..
.
DR SANYA: You are welcome, lady and gentlemanā¦ For the sake of introduction, (pointing to Dr Korede) here seated is Dr Korede, my doctor assistant, and this is nurseā¦..
.
[Rasaq cut in ]
.
RASAQ: I know herā¦.. She knows me tooā¦..
.
NURSE GBEMI: Ok, because we know ourselves now, thatās why you are insinuating that I may have a hand in d death of the deceased, abi?
.
RASAQ: No, not at allā¦. We are not here to point accusing finger at u,ā¦..We are here for information, information we believe only you can provideā¦.
.
NURSE GBEMI: In that case, like what and what are u here to know?
.
[ In my mind, I knew the show has begunā¦..Nurse Gbemisola was not appearing confused, and I liked that]
.
MRS YUSUF: I donāt see any need asking u if u ever knew my husbandā¦.., but did u ever #date him?
.
[ Oh boy, see direct question]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes, I knew your husband, but asking if I ever dated him is a wrong question. The real statement in that regard should be to ask me why I never left him alone, even after your threat on my life
.
[There was shock on my face and that of Dr Koredeā¦. I was able to successfully hide my own shock but Dr Korede couldnāt hide his]
.
DR KOREDE: A threat?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes, she issued a threat on my life when she got to know that I was somehow involved with her husbandā¦.
.
RASAQ: Did u just say you were somehow involved with her late husband?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Uncle Rasaq, donāt overblow this issue, we are adults. See, there are so many things u never understood about the affair between the late Yusuf and Iā¦.. Why did u go to this woman to report what u never #verified? Most times, things are not what they appear to be. You shouldnāt have gone ahead to tell her about meā¦.You even went as far as giving her my phone numberā¦.Habaaa! Why did u take paracetamol for another manās headache?
.
[ In my mind, I was solely interested in d aspect of the threat issued on nurse Gbemisolaās life because thatās what was related to d issue at hand but I noticed that the talk wasnāt centered on the cause of the death any longer but on individual #love_lifeā¦..Dr Korede and I looked on at themā¦. ]
.
NURSE GBEMI: You mis-led this woman
.
MRS YUSUF: Lady, nobody mis-led meā¦.. It was u who took my calmness for grantedā¦..
.
[ Nurse Gbemisola cut in]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Were u calm? Could we call all u displayed then calmness?ā¦.You cursed me severally, remember? You even went as far as threatened me with police arrestā¦.As if u were my creator, you told me how my life would end up if I didnāt leave your manā¦..but you were carelessā¦.. You never bothered to know why I never wanted to leave your man. Or were u thinking it was because of love? God forbid. Yusuf wasnāt a good manā¦.., that was why when my boss here(talking about me) kept on talking about him as a good friend, I marveled.
.
[ At this juncture, I decided to come in, at least there must be sanity in d discussionā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: Donāt letās over-flog this issue of love matter, thatās not the main thing. Nurse Gbemisola, you made me realise today that you have pieces of information that can bring to limelight the killer of the late Mr Yusuf
.
NURSE GBEMI: Of course, I doā¦.and that was what I thought we were here forā¦
.
[ Hearing this, Mr Rasaq and d deceasedās wife suddenly appeared calmā¦..,waiting to hear the revelation that nurse Gbemisola has for themā¦]
.
DR KOREDE: We must remove sentiments from this gatheringā¦., thatās if we are going to come out with anything meaningful.
.
NURSE GBEMI: Itās all right. Help me ask this woman what she finally did when she realised that I wasnāt ready to quit with her husbandā¦.
.
[ We all turned questioning look at Mrs Yusufā¦. We didnāt talk at all before she started talkingā¦.]
.
MRS YUSUF: Oh my God. I hope u are not trying to think that I harmed my husband?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Not at all. All we are asking from u is what u didā¦
.
MRS YUSUF: Did as how? What I did to him or to u?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Both
.
[Mrs Yusuf had a #deep_breath]
.
MRS YUSUF: I donāt think u have ever seen who and what you cherish most in your life being taken away from uā¦. Itās normal to react angrilyā¦..In my own case, I was very furiousā¦.I felt disappointed, I felt betrayedā¦., even when I confronted him of d allegation of dating u, he beat me up. I really suffered in his handsā¦., he molested me severally all because of u. I got fed up and I was forced to discuss my relationship with an intimate friend of mine for d first timeā¦..After hearing my plight, the friend #pitied me and she decided to assistā¦ā¦
.
[ Mrs Yusuf stood up gently, with her eyes fully #tearfulā¦..]

Mrs Yusuf, in her own explanation made mention of a friend who pitied her plight and decided to assist herā¦. Only God knows what Nurse Gbemisola was trying to bring out of thisā¦. Mrs Yusuf was already on her feet, looking so sadā¦..we all looked on at her in total attentionā¦..
.
MRS YUSUF: As I was saying, a friend of mine saw all that I was passing through as mere #cheating ā¦.. She was d one who told me that if I didnāt act fast, you may kill meā¦..
.
[ Nurse Gbemisola cut in]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Tell us what d friend did for uā¦.
.
[ Dr Korede and I were so surprised to see how nurse Gbemisola was ordering Mrs Yusuf to talkā¦..]
.
MRS YUSUF: To be sincere, when she said she would help me, I never knew she meant #spiritual_help until she took me to a native doctor in Ijebu-Ode town. Getting there, my friend agreed with d native doctor to run u mad but I objected to it, after all ti a ba n ja, bii ka ku ko. To cut the long story short, we agreed to tie u down with sicknessā¦..But how you excaped the #sickness_attack is what I canāt explainā¦.
.
NURSE GBEMI: Was it how I escaped the #sickness_attack or how the same sickness u planned for me ended up on your own husbandā¦..??
.
MRS YUSUF: (calmly) Yes, you are rightā¦. My late husband became terribly sick of the same sickness that I planned for u and I was confused. That same friend of mine advised me again to re-visit the baba, she followed me there anyway.
.
NURSE GBEMI: Wait a minutes, who is even this friend of yours?
.
MRS YUSUF: She is Adeola by nameā¦ā¦The native doctor warned me never to have a hand in his treatment as it could lead to my own untimely deathā¦.
.
[ Dr Korede and I were both amazed by all these revelationsā¦.]
.
MRS YUSUF: I abandoned him due to the warning ā¦.
.
NURSE GBEMI: You left your husband to die of a sickness you causedā¦..
.
MRS YUSUF: I was wrongā¦..
.
NURSE GBEMI: Did u later bother to enquire about how your late husband survived itā¦.??
.
[ Mrs Yusuf maintained that sober lookā¦.]
.
MRS YUSUF: Oh my Godā¦.
.
[ Mrs Yusuf started cryingā¦..]
.
NURSE GBEMI: When u left him alone to die, I picked him upā¦..
.
[ For my mind, I was asking myself how all these will lead us to the murdererā¦.]
.
NURSE GBEMI: I picked your husband up from the bed of sickness u created for himā¦. I knew his sickness wasnāt natural, so instead of taking him to a hospital for treatment, I took him to one of my uncles in Ondo town who was an #herbalist ā¦ā¦ I carried several pots of sacrifices for his healingā¦.. In case u care to know, I once bathed your husband at a #cemetery ā¦. As God would have it, he was healed. Believe me, I thought all was well until d day I wanted to take him back to this Ibadanā¦. My uncle just called me aside and told me that we had a new development from the godsā¦.., he said due to all my spiritual efforts on your husband, it was a must I married himā¦.., failure to marry him will definitely lead to the death of whosoever I marry in future
.
[ We were astonishedā¦. our mouths were opened in shockā¦.]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Initially, I took it for a jokeā¦. I went ahead and got married with another man because Yusuf wouldnāt propose on time. The man died on our first night as husband and wife. A year later, I remarriedā¦. he too died in his sleep after 7days into our marriage. This prompted me to rush back to my uncle in Ondo. It was there that I was reminded of all that I did for his healing at d cemeteryā¦ā¦
.
[ At this point, nurse Gbemisola started shedding tearsā¦.]
.
NURSE GBEMI: I asked my uncle for d way out, he told me that your husband was the only man I could marry on this earth, that is if I want to have a man to call a husband in my lifeā¦ā¦ I approached your man of the development and he sworn on his life to marry meā¦.He made me several promises of love and marriage that never #materialisedā¦..
.
[ We all felt sorry for her storyā¦, even Mrs Yusuf kept shaking her head in pity of herā¦..]
.
NURSE GBEMI: I thought I had found a husband in Yusuf until one day that I saw his introduction pics with you as unploaded by a friend of his on Facebookā¦. I confronted him of it and he told me he was back to his first love who was youā¦.. Can u imagine? If I had wanted to kill him for destroying my life, it wouldnāt have taken me up to 24hours, in fact, he wonāt even get to hospital before he meet his death. But I forgave him, I handed over revenge to God and moved on, believing that one day, God would give me breakthroughā¦.. Mr Rasaq, can u see now that u knew nothing about Yusuf and I?
.
MRS YUSUF: Oh my God!!! He never told me all these!
.
[ I turned to Mrs Yusuf]
.
DR SANYA: Where is Adeola now, I mean that friend of yours that took u to the herbalist??
.
MRS YUSUF: She stays in this town. I know how to get her.
.
DR SANYA: Can we meet her?
.
MRS YUSUF: At this point, I wonāt say no.
.
DR SANYA: Good.
.
DR KOREDE: From all the said things now, who can we say kill Mr Yusuf?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Ever since the day he told me point blank that he canāt have anything romantic to do with me any longer, I had not set my eyes on him until the day he was rushed in here sickā¦..
.
MRS YUSUF: I had no reason whatsoever to terminate his lifeā¦.. For Godās sake, he was my husbandā¦.
.
NURSE GBEMI: Apart from the two of us, what of if there is another lady somewhere?
.
[ We all looked shock at what nurse Gbemisola saidā¦..abi, which one was she saying again?]
.
MRS YUSUF: Please my sister, I donāt understandā¦..
.
NURSE GBEMI: You didnāt kill him.. I didnāt kill him eitherā¦.., then who did? A man like him had no reason to kill him, he was a civil servant, not a business man. So, the next possible person who could have killed him must be a lady he probably was in #secret_affair withā¦ā¦., donāt forget that itās not all ladies that can take disappointment in good spirit without fighting back. Who knows maybe this person saw his union with you the same way I did and decided to take revenge on himā¦. Donāt forget that your man was #promiscuous
.
[Mrs Yusuf looked on in deep thought as if she was trying to remember somethingā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemi, you have spoken very wiselyā¦.., but how do we find our suspect now?
.
NURSE GBEMI: I will suggest we direct that question to this his wife, he was closer to the deceased than anyone of us hereā¦ā¦ Madam, only u can provide the lead
.
[ Mrs Yusuf, still in deep thinkingā¦, she suddenly jacked back to consciousness as if she suddenly remembered somethingā¦.]
.
MRS YUSUF: My people, letās find my friendā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Who among your friends?
.
MRS YUSUF: The same girl by the nameAdeola ā¦., the friend of mine who took me to the native doctor in Ijebu Ode town to attack this my sisterā¦..(pointing to nurse Gbemisola)
.
[ We were all taken by a huge #shock ā¦.. ]
.
ALL: What!!!!!
.
Why did Mrs Yusuf mention her best friendās name, the same best friend who took her out for help? ā¦.. She must have picked something very sensitive from therevelation that nurse Gbemisola opened her eyes toā¦ā¦Well, I had to come in now
.
DR SANYA: So guys, as it is now, our next target of whom to find is her friend, Adeola. Letās all meet here again tomorrow morning. We will leave from here to find herā¦.We are now a teamā¦ā¦. no #police_involvement for now. We are now a team of #PRIVATE_INVESTIGATORS
Episode 14
[ THE 6TH INVESTIGATOR]
Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Our #collective mission was to find the killer of the late Yusufā¦ā¦ But d question we didnāt have answer to is why we are not involving the #policeā¦.Anyway, so far, we were making progress, that was all that matteredā¦. Now, we need to find #Adeola , that intimate friend of Mrs Yusuf who took her to the native doctor at Ijebu townā¦.. She was the only friend that Mrs Yusuf could think of when nurse Gbemi challenged her to think of a likely female partner that could have a hand in d death of Yusufā¦ā¦ Why Mrs Yusuf has now picked her so-called intimate friend (ADEOLA) was what we didnāt understandā¦. We all agreed to meet again at my hospital the following dayā¦.. So, they left that morning, remainning only Dr Korede, nurse Gbemisola and I in my officeā¦.
.
DR SANYA: (Talking to nurse Gbemisola) You challenged her to think of a secret lover the late Yusuf could have had before his death, and she mentioned her intimate friendās nameā¦ā¦ what do u make of that?
.
NURSE GBEMI: To me, I think she mentioned her suspectās nameā¦.
.
DR KOREDE: You mean she could be suspecting her own friend?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Yes, of course!
.
DR SANYA: To me, I think there are still more to that which we donāt know yetā¦.. When we find d Adeola tomorrow, every hidden issue will be revealed.
.
DR KOREDE: I agree.
.
[ A call from my #Mary came in to my phoneā¦., as I was picking up my phone, Dr Korede and nurse Gbemisola decided to leave d office for meā¦..]
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
DR SANYA: Hello loveā¦. How is your day going?
.
MARY: Wonderful but somehow boring without youā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Donāt worry, I am coming to your side the moment I am through in office in d eveningā¦ā¦
.
MARY: Is that a promise?ā¦
.
DR SANYA: Yes, of course
.
MARY: Meaning that you are sleeping over, abi?
.
DR SANYA: That one is certain!
.
[ One thing that Mary never knew was that I decided to sleep over at her place that evening because I needed to cool off my headā¦., donāt get me wrong, I did love and cherish every moment we shared together o]
.
MARY: I hope u guys are making progress in your investigation of the death of your friend?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, we are oā¦., maybe when I come in d evening, I will brief youā¦..
.
MARY: Alright dearā¦.Just be careful please!ā¦..Bye!
.
[#End_Of_Conversation ā¦.. I instructed Dr KOREDE to stay for night duty while I closed for d day around 6pmā¦.and I drove straight to my Maryās houseā¦.. ]
.
Getting to Maryās house, I met her watching a Nollywood movie titledHell_In_Heaven ā¦.. She was so carried away with d movie to the extent that she hardly had my time when I came inā¦., all she could manage to give me was my usual kiss which she no fit carry over under any circumstances. I went straight inside to off my clothes and take my bathā¦.. I returned to d living room in my casual night wearā¦.. This time around, Mary had set the dinning table ready for dinner, I noticed she only paused the movieā¦ā¦
.
DR SANYA: You seem to like this movie so much
.
MARY: So muchā¦.In fact, the writer deserves an awardā¦.. The story-line centers on d damages that jealousy could cause in a relationship. Dear, u may have to watch d movieā¦.
.
[ I maintained my smileā¦.. She went back to sit down and continued with the movieā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Common, are you not eating?
.
MARY: Itās all yours! I ate before you came
.
DR SANYA: You ate without waiting for meā¦.When did that one start?
.
[ She wasnāt replying me again oooā¦., she had her full concentration on d movieā¦.. I left her aloneā¦. After I finished eating, I told her I needed rest and that she should meet me in the bedroom upstairs when she is throughā¦.. That was all I could remember for the day because before she could return to the bedroom, I had slept. That was how I was never able to share what we found out in our investigation with herā¦.. She too never bothered to wake me up when she came inā¦..]
.
The following morning, I woke up around half past five, took my bath and prepared bread and tea for myself. Mary slept late d previous night and woke up so late the following dayā¦.. From sleep, she managed to bid me ābyeā and I left, straight to the hospitalā¦.
.
I was on my way, driving to the hospital when I started remembering that last evening, when Mary was busy watching the movies, she was trying to book an appointment with somebody on phone for d following dayā¦. She wasnāt audible enough because she wonāt talk loudlyā¦ā¦.For my mind, who could she be planning to meet? I never had d time to ask her since she wonāt wake up on timeā¦..I trusted her so much, so I waved all that aside and continued driving to the officeā¦., then time was few minutes to 7am.
.
When I got to the office around 7:12am, I asked Dr korede to go home to rest, with d promise that I would call him on phone when Rasaq and Mrs Yusuf arriveā¦ā¦ Nurse Gbemisola was already aroundā¦..
.
Truly, at exactly 9:15am they came. I sent a call to DR KOREDE who promised to join us as quick as possible ā¦.. We waited for him, and true to his words, he arrived after just 10minutes and the meeting commenced after exchanging pleasantries:
.
DR SANYA: (Talking to Mrs Yusuf) Have u made contact with Adeola?
.
MRS YUSUF: Yes, I did. But she wouldnāt want us to come to her house ā¦.
.
DR KOREDE: Why?
.
MRS YUSUF: She wouldnāt tell me
.
NURSE GBEMI: Does she know the purpose of our meeting her?
.
MRS YUSUF: We are intimate friendsā¦. so since I said I needed to see her for an issue that is not discussable on phone, she agreed and never questioned me furtherā¦.
.
MR RASAQ: Meaning that she thought u are the only person coming to see her, abi?
.
MRS YUSUF: I donāt think so because I made her to realise that I may be coming in the company of two to three friendsā¦.
.
DR SANYA: And she was comfortable with that arrangement, right?
.
MRS YUSUF: Yes, I expected her to be worried by that arrangement but she never worriedā¦.., I guess she was busy while receiving the call and never wanted to be distractedā¦.or maybe she was still at work because she is a banker ā¦
.
NURSE GBEMI: So, where are we meeting our sixth investigator?
.
[ We all smiledā¦..]
.
NURSE GBEMI: I mean, Adeola?
.
MRS YUSUF: The meeting is holding atHelen_Faith_Restaurant by 11am ā¦.
.
[ At that point, the question in our minds was WHO IS ADEOLA? ]
Episode 15
( WHO IS ADEOLA?)
Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Yes, we were meeting #Adeola by 11amā¦. I didnāt understand why she didnāt just want to receive us under her roofā¦., could it be that she knew why we were coming? Well, iyen o kan aye.
.
At around 10:30am, we preparing to goā¦Nurse Gbemisola decided to go in Dr Koredeās car. I was d only person in my car since Mr Rasaq and Mrs Yusuf came with their own carā¦.We all left the hospital premises at exactly 10:55am. From d hospital to #Helen_Faith_Restaurant is 25 minutes drive.
.
Immediately we left d hospital in convoy, so many things were crossing my mindā¦., one of them was who Adeola could be. 5minutes into our journey to see Adeola, Mrs Yusufās call came in on my phone, I picked it ā¦..she called to tell me that Adeola just called her that she was there waiting for us.. ā¦
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
MRS YUSUF: I told her we too will soon be with her in d next few minutes
.
DR SANYA: Beautiful. Thanks!
.
[ #End_of_conversation ā¦ while I was on phone with Mrs Yusuf, I noticed that one of my nurses at the hospital had been trying to reach me on phone, so after d call with Mrs Yusuf, I saw her 3 missed calls which went on waiting. I was forced to call her back:
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
DR SANYA: Hello nurse Roseline
.
NURSE ROSE: Hello doctorā¦..
.
[ I noticed the #anxiety in her voice]
.
NURSE ROSE: Mrs Williams is here sirā¦., she was rushed in now.
.
DR SANYA: (Anxiously) What happened to her?
.
NURSE ROSE: The husband said she fell down on the stair-case this morningā¦.
.
DR SANYA: (Shocked) What!!!
.
[ Mrs Williams is my intimate friendās wife who was 8-months pregnantā¦., now hearing that she fell down from a stair-case weakened meā¦.. I was so touched and carried away, forgetting that I was on d car steeringā¦.. it took a goat that suddenly ran across the road to bring back my consciousnessā¦.. I told nurse Roseline that I would be on my way back to the hospital straightaway, I donāt joke with any matter of life and deathā¦.. I ended the phone call immediately and dialled Dr Koredeās number as I was turning back at a round-about ā¦.I informed him of d urgency of d situation and told him to tell others to carry on, that I would meet them there if I was able to put the situation under controlā¦. In my mind, I knew that I may have to carry out C.S (Caesarian Section) on d womanā¦ā¦
.
I drove at a very high speedā¦.and 8-minutes later, I was at d hospitalā¦.. The situation I met d woman was terribly bad, so the afore-mentioned surgical operation was the next thing in my mind if I must save the womanās lifeā¦..The operation commenced immediately, it lasted for another 45minutesā¦. #Halleluyah, it was successful. I heaved a sign of relief and retired to my office only to meet 12-missed calls on my phone which I dropped on my office table while I was in the #theatreā¦., all from Dr Korede and nurse Gbemisola. The last missed call came in about 20minutes ago. I was terrified, I never knew why my attention was needed on phoneā¦ At a time, I thought maybe they wanted to know how successful I was with d situation in d hospital. So, I decided to get through with my friend whose wife was with us before calling Dr Korede back. I ordered for d husband to the woman to be brought inā¦ā¦ Donāt forget that he was a good childhood friend of mine. He was so glad to know that God saved his wifeās life through meā¦.Above all, to know that the baby boy inside the wife made it alive really made his joy #unlimited ā¦ā¦
.
To cut the long story short, I was through with d husband after 5-minutes. He asked to see his wife and I replied that one of d nurses would lead him to her when they are through with her. I decided to call Dr Korede on phone thereafter to know how far they have gone at their endā¦..
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
DR SANYA: Hi docā¦ā¦ I am sorry to miss your calls, then I was in the theatre with the womanā¦.
.
DR KOREDE: Ohā¦And how is she now?
.
DR SANYA: I thank Godā¦.Both the mother and d baby boy child are alive..
.
DR KOREDE: Halleluyahhh!
.
DR SANYA: You called me, I hope all is well at your side?
.
DR KOREDE: I am not sure, doc. Can u make it down here in d next 15-minutes?
.
[ I became so #curiousā¦. what could be happening there?]
.
DR SANYA: Is my attention that important in the meeting?
.
DR KOREDE: Iām afraid, yes!
.
DR SANYA: All right then, Iām joining you right away.
.
[ I called on nurse Roseline to keep an eye on the womanā¦. In case of any situation, I instructed her to put a call through to meā¦. I drove off straight to the restaurant to meet my other private investigatorsā¦.]
.
It took me just 13-minutes to get to the meeting pointā¦. As I was parking and alighting from d car, my Maryās call came in on my phoneā¦. I picked the callā¦.. I was on the phone with Mary as I rushed into the restuarantā¦. Getting inside, who I saw seated with my co-private investigators sent coldness down my spinesā¦. I couldnāt believe my eyesā¦.. Each step I took closer to them was like a journey to heavenā¦.. Ah! Every one of them at the table paused whatever they could be saying to focus on meā¦.., I guess they wanted to see my reactionā¦.. My movement to them became so slow and I gently took the phone away from my ears, fixing my eyes on who I know must be the #Adeola we have come to meetā¦.. Getting to the table, the so-called Adeola stood up immediately to give me a warm hugā¦. I was so #cold ā¦..
.
DR KOREDE: Ore, take your seatā¦
.
[ Taking my seat among them seemed to be the hardest task to doā¦.I managed to sit downā¦ā¦ Sitting down, I couldnāt waste much time before I asked our so-called Adeola the first question:
.
DR SANYA: (To the Adeola) Please, are you the Adeola?
.
ADEOLA: (Amidst weak smile) Yes, I am.
.
DR SANYA: J.E.S.U.S!!!
.
[ Who is this Adeola?]
Episode 16
( FLASH-BACK)
Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°Ā°At the restaurant, I was dumbfounded when our #guest confirmed it to me that she was the Adeola we were there to meetā¦.. Observing my co-private investigators, I noticed that their attentions were on me, expecting to hear from meā¦., that further confirmed it to me that our Adeola had told them things that are probably related to meā¦.. Yes, I know #Adeola quite well. Contrary to what you guys thought that Adeola is Mary, no!
.Adeola was my #ex_girlfriendā¦.. I met her years back, the same day I met my Maryā¦. It was at a bachelor eve of a pastor of mine, pastor Bisayomiā¦ā¦ Before then, I had no girl in my life. My belief was that girls met through a pastor or in a #pastoral gathering like that are the most righteousā¦., but guys, I was wrong. Out of my desperation to have a church girl, they were three in number that I wooed that night, only my Mary and this Adeola in question were the only deals that clicked
.
I started dating the two girlsā¦. Believe me, it wasnāt easy because the two of them were just too #possessive and extremely #jealous, especially my Mary. I continued the relationships with the two of them, yet they never knew each other until one day that Adeola saw a female #pant in my wardrobe, the pant belonged to my Mary, she forgot it in my house the last time she visited and I thought I had kept it safely inside my wardrobeā¦. the day was a red-letter day in my lifeā¦.. Adeola made me see hell. She called me different names after slapping me twiceā¦..To tell u how serious the scenerio was, at a time in the quarrel, she started asking me to call the owner of d pantā¦. I couldnāt deny the pant belonged to a female, neither could I say it belonged to a sister or cousin of mine because she knew I was d only surviving child of my parentsā¦.. After all said and done that day, she left after dropping these statements below:.
āTHE OWNER OF THIS PANT HAS CHOSEN THE WRONG GUYā¦. I WILL DEAL WITH HER WITH EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE GOTā¦ SHE WILL SEE HELL ON EARTH. HERBATICALLY, SHE IS IN TROUBLEā¦. SPIRITUALLY, SHE WILL HEAR FROM ME UNLESS I AM NO MORE A DAUGHTER TO THE SEVEN MOTHERSā
.Those were her words before she left my houseā¦.. Seeing that she was leaving with d pant, I ran quickly to close my door and I ensured that I forcefully got d pant back from her. This action of mine further aggravated her anger towards my Mary. She left.
.
I sat myself down after her departure and I began to think: Why did she take matter up in such angry manner, even though, I expected her to be angry at d sight of d pant, but not to that extentā¦. Could she mean those threats she issued towards my Mary? What does she mean by calling herself a daughter to the seven mothers? These and many more questions were roaming the streets of my mind freely. I was heartbroken. I never planned to lose her so soon because she was wealthier than my Mary. She had been of great assistance #financially to me, especially when I was founding my private hospitalā¦.., she is the only daughter to a former senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeriaā¦..At around few minutes to 10pm, I slept off.
.
It was my Maryās phone call that woke me up at around 5:30 in the morningā¦. On the phone, she was sounding so #scared. I asked her what the matter was and with shaking voice, she replied me with a question that who has been dating me with herā¦.I was shockedā¦.The question brought back in me the issue and threats of d previous night from Adeolaā¦. Has Adeola started fighting back so soon? My Mary again asked me the same question, and at this time, I was forced to give her an answer. Of course, I denied it. I told her she had always been the only girl in my lifeā¦. She wasnāt convinced by my reply, instead, she told me point blank that I was lieing and that she was sure of what she saw and heard in d dream. Asking her what she saw and heard, she said she saw a young lady in her dream who called herself the daughter of d seven mothers and she threatened to kill her if she refuses to let go of meā¦. After hearing this, I was scared to my bone marrow. At that point, I knew that I must act fast if I donāt want my Mary wasted for me.
.
That same morning, while preparing to go to work, I started hearing knocks on my doorā¦., opening d door, Adeola was d person standing behind it. I was scared to the extent that I started shaking uncontrollablyā¦., she noticed my fearful mood and burst into #mocking laughterā¦.. She went straight to sit down with her legs crossedā¦. She looked on at me for a while before talking:
.
ADEOLA: Sanya, you are scaredā¦..why?
.
DR SANYA: You have been to herā¦.she called to tell me this morning
.
ADEOLA: Oh, you mean your girlā¦.. Is she also scared like u?
.
[ I pausedā¦. ]
.
ADEOLA: Anyway, she has been warnedā¦.. Advise her to take d warning seriously because obedience is better than sacrificeā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Adeola, who exactly are u?
.
[ My phone started ringing on d center table but I refused to pick itā¦ I have a bigger situation of life and death at hand]
.
ADEOLA: Why donāt you relaxā¦.you and your woman are about to know who exactly I amā¦ok?
.
DR SANYA: It doesnāt have to involve loss of lifeā¦.
.
ADEOLA: Says who? To me, taking oneās possession back shouldnāt be taken lightly but as a matter of life and deathā¦
.
DR SANYA: But this girl is innocent, she doesnāt even know you exist in my lifeā¦.. if you are going to deal with anybody at all, deal with meā¦.
.
[ Suddenly, my Mary bagged inā¦.. Sighting Adeola, they both were shocked beyond expressionā¦ā¦..Adeola stood up gently ]
.
MARY: Adeolaā¦.
.
ADEOLA: Maryā¦ā¦ Please, what are u doing here?
.
MARY: I should be the one asking you that question.. For Godās sake, this is my fianceās houseā¦.
.
[ Adeola appeared calm #instantly ā¦ She gently went back to sit down, looking down in moody mannerā¦ā¦My Mary turned to meā¦]
.
MARY: Dear, what is happening here?
.
[ I too just went to sit down, looking sospeechlessā¦. Abi, who could have known that they were friendsā¦.the same day I met the two of them was the same day they too met each other and became intimate friends thereafterā¦ā¦ Since she wasnāt getting any response from me, she decided to go and sit down beside her friend, placing a hand on her shoulderā¦.]
.
MARY: Ore, even if my man is not answering me, at least you and I are ladies and we are also intimate friends, I expect us to be open-minded to each otherā¦..
.
[ Still no responseā¦]
.
MARY: Or are u guys datingā¦..?
.
[ Adeola cut in at onceā¦.]
.
ADEOLA: Common ore, donāt jump into hasty conclusion yetā¦. Your man is here, he is in d best position to explain things better to youā¦.
.
[ Adeola stood up and walked closer to meā¦.]
.
ADEOLA: Is Mary, my friend here the lady we have been talking about?
.
[ My tongue was too heavy to talk, the only thing I could do was to nod my head in #affirmation ā¦.. Adeola burst into tears instantly and walked outā¦ā¦ From that moment, I knew it that the #death_threat was overā¦.. My Mary came close to me for explanationā¦ā¦. I explained it all to her without leaving anything behindā¦.. At first, she broke up with me but after much persuasion and apology, especially the intervention of my good friend, Dr Korede, she forgave me and we got back in loveā¦ā¦.
.Since that day, I never heard from Adeola againā¦ I even thought she had left townā¦., even her friend (Mary) couldnāt find herā¦.all her lines went deadā¦.. Believe me guys, I never forget that I once dated a lady who had the mind to kill.
.
Now that you know who our #Adeola is to me, I believe you now know why I was so scared seeing her on seat again after 4years of our departure. Now that you know our story together, Adeola no be my Mary ooooo!
.
Adeola knew that I understand her wicked mind very well, so how will she convince me that she wasnāt the one behind the death of Yusufā¦.?
.
How did our investigation go with Adeola? Did she ever date the late Yusuf? Is she the murderer we were looking for? If yes, how and why did she kill him? And if no, WHO KILLED YUSUF?
Episode 17
āā(COMPLICATIONS)
==============================
Yusuf was promiscuous, and Adeola wouldnāt mind killing such a man, so if she had dated Yusuf, who says she isnāt d killer we are looking for? She was such an #unpredictable lady.
.Do I need to remind you of those at the table in the restaurant, I mean my co-private investigators? They are:
.
- Dr Korede
- Nurse Gbemisola
- Mrs Yusuf
- Mr Rasaq (brother to Mrs Yusuf)
- And my humble self who just joined themā¦..
.
I observed their mood, I discovered that they were expecting to hear from meā¦.why? Havenāt they discussed anything at all before my arrival or was what they discussed all about me? I was so eager to know what they have been talking about so far but it seemed nobody was ready to update meā¦.. After few seconds of #silence, Adeola was d first person to speak out:
.
ADEOLA: (Cheerfully) Sanya, I know you are surprised to see meā¦ā¦Iām happy to see u again after 4yearsā¦.. How is my friend doing? Is she too coming here?
.
[ Believe me guys, I no fit answer any of her questionsā¦ā¦ I remained #dumb ]
.
ADEOLA: Anyway, straight to businessā¦.. Your people here have said so many thingsand asked me several questionsā¦. I have tried my best to answer some of the questions to the best of my knowledge but I told them that I needed to see u before I could talk furtherā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Itās all right, Iām here now!
.
ADEOLA: I told your guys here that I dated Yusuf but true to his memory, I didnāt kill himā¦.. He was the guy I met immediately I broke up with youā¦. Yusuf was a cheatā¦., so selfish a guy. I am sure my nurse here can testify to thatā¦. He died a deserved deathā¦. I learnt he was poisonedā¦..
.
[ I nodded in agreement]
.
ADEOLA: Hmmmmā¦.. He had always lived a rough life, even when he was an undergraduateā¦. One day when we were still dating, he told me some atrocities he committed as a #cultist back then on campusā¦.
.
DR SANYA: As a cultist?
.
ADEOLA: Yes, of courseā¦ he never told u?ā¦ā¦ He told me how he rescued a guy who was kidnapped by some rival cultists to be killed. According to him, d guy kidnapped was dating a girl that their boss wantedā¦ The guy never wanted to release the girl and their boss too was never ready to let the girl be. Yusuf braced up and narrowly set the guy free from where he was held #hostageā¦. In d process, two of the guys guarding the place lost their lives and he too got injured severelyā¦..
.
[ The story resembled mine, so I paid her serious attentionā¦.]
.
ADEOLA: He rescued the guy and since then, they became friends. I asked him why he rescued a guy he never knew before, knowing fully well that he too was a cultistā¦ā¦He told me that he helped the guy in order to correct his past mistakeā¦. Sanya, do you know this guy rescued by Yusuf?
.
DR SANYA: It was meā¦. Yusuf saved me.
.
ADEOLA: Do you know why he saved you that day?
.
[ The show was becoming a two-man talkā¦.others listened to us patientlyā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Before that day, I had never met him beforeā¦.. He was #hospitalised due to injuries he sustained in the process of rescuing meā¦.. I was amazed he went through all that to save a guy he had not seen beforeā¦. I asked him, he told me he did that because he never wanted me wasted the same way his cousin was wasted by the same group of cultists ā¦.According to him, it was a #revenge_mission on themā¦.
.
ADEOLA: It was not a revenge missionā¦. Sanya, where is your mother?
.
[ That question amazed me because I have never discussed d issue of my late mother with herā¦. What connection is that having with the cause of death of Yusuf that is under investigation?]
.
DR SANYA: She is late.
.
ADEOLA: Do you know how she died?
.
[ Oh my God! For Godās sake, why is this investigation coming to my #backyard?]
.
DR SANYA: No, I donāt.
.
[ Truly, I knew nothing about the cause of death of my late motherā¦. Nobody in d family was ready to tell me how she diedā¦.So, right now, it was so #shameful for me to say I no know how my own mother take dieā¦..]
.
ADEOLA: Eeya, sorry. But if I may ask you, why are u so desperate to know how Yusuf died?
.
DR SANYA: I just want to knowā¦. We just want to know
.
ADEOLA: You just want to know what will eventually make u sadā¦. if u donāt stop this your #investigation at this juncture, the revelation that will come out of it will shock you.
.
[ At this point, I knew and I was sure that Adeola knew what I didnāt know, both about Yusufās death and my own motherās deathā¦.. ]
.
DR SANYA: Right now, I know you have information about my motherās death, we will come to that laterā¦..But on this issue at hand, I want to be shocked by the revelationā¦.
.
[ Mrs Yusuf cut in]
.
MRS YUSUF: We want to be shockedā¦. We need the revelation
.
ADEOLA: Hmmmmā¦. I did not kill him and I donāt know who did, but I know the circumstances surrounding his deathā¦.. He was poisoned by an okada rider
.
[ We all looked puzzledā¦.. So oblivious of what she meant by āokada riderāā¦.]
.
DR KOREDE: Okada rider?
.
RASAQ: How? Why?
.
ADEOLA: I know the āhowā but I donāt know the āwhy?ā
.
NURSE GBEMI: Who is this okada rider and how can we find him?
.
ADEOLA: Are you guys sure u want to do this?
.
MRS YUSUF: ( Anxiously) Very sure!
.
ADEOLA: All right then. But to you Sanya, be ready to live forever with the shock that will follow the revelation that will come out of this your investigationā¦..
.
[ I was worriedā¦. What is she actually talking about? Adeola that I used to know will never talk #pointlesslyā¦.. She is so factual and down-to-earth. At this juncture wey we dey, no going back ooo]
.
ADEOLA: I donāt know the okada riderā¦..I donāt even know where and how u can get himā¦..
.
[ We all felt disappointedā¦.]
.
ADEOLA: But there is one man that can help youā¦.
.
[ Mrs Yusuf cut in anxiously]
.
MRS YUSUF: Who is that man and where does he live?
.
ADEOLA: Calm down, dear friend. You are even the one who made his death easy for those who killed himā¦
.
[ We were all shocked againā¦..This Adeola wont stop dropping #bombshellsā¦.. And we became so anxious to know moreā¦]
.
MRS YUSUF: How?
.
ADEOLA: You never forgave your man for cheating on u with this nurse hereā¦. You stopped being caring to him thereafter, even after I took you to that #herbalist in Ijebu who told u to forgive him if you want him to live long, you still didnāt forgive meā¦. Didnāt you tell your people all that? Hmmmmmmmā¦.. Find that okada guy, and how u assisted the killer in carrying out his or her mission on your husband will be clearer to u.
.
[ Now I know that Adeola was not #blabbingā¦. The case of Yusuf and nurse Gbemi that she just mentioned made me to know and be sure that she knew everything she was sayingā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: But you havenāt told us how to find d okada man nowā¦
.
ADEOLA: There is a man that can lead you to himā¦ I canāt give u his name and address for now until I speak with himā¦.. Sanya, you will have to call me on phone tomorrowā¦..
.
[ For my mind, #tomorrow was not too far so far she would be ready to give us d needed information. What confused me was why she needed to consult the man firstā¦ā¦Donāt you think there could be something more to that? ]
.
[ Adeola knew what I didnāt know about my motherās death and I was ready to #unravel that mystery also but it would be after finishing with Yusufās caseā¦ā¦ Or could it be the same person that killed Yusuf that also killed my mother? She said I would be shocked when I know the killer of Yusufā¦.. could he/she also be the killer of my mum??ā¦..hmmmmmmmm
.
Make tomorrow break quick o, I canāt wait to know the name and address of the man Adeola talked aboutā¦.. We must find the okada riderā¦ā¦..We all departed that day with d promise that I would call my people the moment I was able to talk with Adeolaā¦..
.
But wait a minute, if Adeola could disappeared from me for good 4years, how could I be sure that she wonāt disappear again??
Episode 18
( THE OKADA RIDER)
After the dayās work, I went straight to my Maryās house to sleep over thereā¦. I needed to brief her of all that happened with Adeola at the restaurant. Besides, my head was #hot, I needed to cool it offā¦..Adeola said so many things that called for worryā¦. That night, I sat Mary down and gisted her everything, including the events her movie did not allow her to listen to the previous nightā¦.Mary was so amazed to hear the things Adeola saidā¦
.
MARY: You mean you saw Adeola again?
.
DR SANYA: I did oooā¦.. With every statement coming out of her mouth, believe me, initially I thought I was dreamingā¦..
.
MARY: My worry is on how she got to know so much like thatā¦.
.
DR SANYA: That girl is something elseā¦.. She kept on saying that what I will find out of the investigation on d cause of Yusufās death will shock meā¦. I didnāt understand what she meant and that worried me a lot
.
MARY: Even, that one aside, what has Yusufās death got to do with your own motherās death?
.
DR SANYA: Same question I have been asking myself since afternoonā¦.. I must get to the root of all these.
.
[ I picked up my phone and I was dialling the number she gave meā¦.]
.
MARY: Who are u calling?
.
DR SANYA: Her number! ā¦.. The number she gave me this afternoonā¦.
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
DR SANYA: Good eveningā¦. Sanya, on the line
.
ADEOLA: Ohā¦ How are u?
.
DR SANYA: Donāt tell me u are expecting me to say I am fine after all you said in the afternoonā¦..
.
ADEOLA: I said so many things this afternoonā¦.. Which one exactly is leaving you worried?
.
DR SANYA: Everything! You seem to know too muchā¦..
.
[ Right there on the phone, she smiled broadlyā¦.. Mary looked on #expectantly at meā¦ I had to put the phone on speaker mode]
.
ADEOLA: Sanya, you are still as funny as ever. Why are u worried about the things I know? For now, let your interest remain on the things u need to know
.
[ Mary and I turned to look at each other in surprise]
.
DR SANYA: In that case, have you spoken with the man that will lead us to the okada rider? Has he given his consent to lead us to the okada rider u said poisoned Yusuf?
.
ADEOLA: Sanya, please calm down. Be anxious for nothing. Let me confess to u right now, there is no man anywhereā¦.
.
DR SANYA: What!!!
.
[ Mary and I were so shocked to hear that again ]
.
ADEOLA: Yes, no man whatsoever anywhere. I only said that to buy time because I needed to talk to you privately
.
DR SANYA: Talk to me privately?
.
ADEOLA: Yes
.
DR SANYA: On what?
.
ADEOLA: On everything that is on groundā¦.. I want to advise you to be more careful. Do not trust anybodyā¦.because throughout the time we were together with those people in the afternoon, it kept occurring to me that you are trusting too much and too much of everything is bad
.
DR SANYA: A-de-o-laā¦. you wonāt stop amazing me. Who are those you are advising me to be more careful with exactly?
.
ADEOLA: Hummm, do u still remember that I told u this afternoon that huge surprises await u on this your investigationā¦..??
.
DR SANYA: Of course, I remember!
.
ADEOLA: Good. In that case, on everything u do on this matter, be watchful of your backā¦
.
[ At this point, my Mary was becoming uncomfortableā¦.., I could see it on her face]
.
DR SANYA: So, what about finding that okada rider?
.
ADEOLA: Tell your people to meet me at that same venue tomorrow, ā¦.same time! I am taking you to the guy myself. I want to personally hand over the killer of Yusuf to u
.
[ It sounded so interesting to me because it means we were gradually getting to the end of our investigationā¦. but again, I was scared of what this whole thing holds for meā¦.I appreciated her so much and d call ended thereā¦.I had to start talking to my Mary who had been so uncomfortable sinceā¦.Time was already few minutes after 9pm]
.
DR SANYA: Dear, u donāt look good, whatās the matter?
.
MARY: I am no more comfortable with this your so-called investigation againā¦. itās becoming dangerous and I am thinking u should drop it, after all u are a medical doctor and not a police detective
.
DR SANYA: Dear, are u getting scared?
.
MARY: Shouldnāt I be scared? Honey, canāt you read between the lines? There is more to this matterā¦. Yusuf is dead and gone, no investigation can bring him back to life again. You see, in this life, some words are better left #unspoken!
.
DR SANYA: Hmmmm, you have a pointā¦. I will think about it.
.
Is it true that I need to back down on this mission? If I do, I may never get to know d mystery surrounding my motherās deathā¦. I was eager to know the possible connection between my motherās death and that of Yusuf.
.
Mary and I later slept that night so troubledā¦.. Getting to office the following morning, I called my co-private investigators on phone to tell them we were meeting at the same restaurant, same time. Mrs Yusuf tried asking me some questions regarding the man that will lead us to the okada rider but I wasnāt ready to answer herā¦..
.
At around 10: 30am in the morning, everyone of us was already at the restaurant, expecting Adeola to arriveā¦.While we were waiting, I never told them about all that Adeola told me on phoneā¦. She has said I should be more carefulā¦.So, I secretly sent her a text informing her that I havenāt told them anything about all we discussed on phone oā¦.. She finally showed up at exactly 11:05am. She apologized for coming late and the meeting commenced in earnest after exchanging pleasantriesā¦..
.
MRS YUSUF:Thanks for finally accepting to assist us
.
ADEOLA: Common, what are friends for? If you guys are set, letās go find the okada riderā¦ā¦
.
[Everybody on seat was surprised because they were still expecting Adeola to take them to the other man that will then lead them to the riderā¦ā¦ ]
.
ADEOLA: Donāt worry guys, we are going straight to d okada riderās houseā¦.
.
[ Everybody appeared happyā¦.. We left the restaurant and d six of us drove straight to a beautiful house at the #outskirt of the town under the leading of Adeolaā¦ā¦ Getting to the house, we all enteredā¦..we took our seats right inside the well-furnished living roomā¦ā¦.You wonāt believe that it belonged to a #bachelor okada riderā¦ā¦ We all looked so expectantā¦.]
.
ADEOLA: Letās relax guys, Dayo will soon be with us
.
NURSE GBEMI: Is that his name?
.
ADEOLA: Yes!
.
[ Behold, a young guy in his early twenties came out to us from the inner roomā¦. Seeing Dr Korede, he looked a bit surprised, I seemed to be the only person who noticed itā¦..]
.
DAYO: (Talking to Adeola) Are these the people?
.
ADEOLA: Yes, they are!ā¦.. The game is up, they are here because of Yusufās deathā¦ Donāt mis-understand them, they are not here to arrest you, they just want to peacefully know why you painfully killed their Yusuf
.
DAYO: Common Adeola, why are u trying to destroy me? Afterall, I have apologized to you that I never knew he was your ex-guyā¦.
.
ADEOLA: Iām not here for any personal reason, I forgave you then. But if u can still remember, I told u that u havenāt heard the last on the killingā¦.. I told you that day that if his relatives ever come to me on his death, I will expose you and you will have to apologise to them too. So, here they are before you today.
.
MRS YUSUF: Young man, why did u kill my husband?
.
DAYO: I did not kill him
.
MR RASAQ: Then, who did?
.
DAYO: I was sent
.
DR SANYA: By who?
.
[ Dayo, the okada rider turned to Dr Korede at once]
.
DAYO: Doctor Korede, please tell your people now how Mr Yusuf died
.
[ Everyone of us on seat, except Adeola was shocked to the point of #collapsingā¦.We all turned to Dr Korede]
.
DR SANYA: Doctorā¦.. You heard himā¦..
.
[Dr Korede managing to talkā¦..I remained the only person who could still talkā¦. Others were #dumbfounded due to shock]
.
DR KOREDE: Yes, Dayo simply carried out an assignment given to him on Yusufā¦.
.
DR SANYA: An assignment given to himā¦., by who?
.
DR KOREDE: It was given to him by one Mr Folarin Williams Aladejoba
.
DR SANYA: What!!!!!
.
[ I couldnāt believe my earsā¦ā¦.]
.
DR KOREDE: Do you know him?
.
DR SANYA: Mr Folarin Williams Aladejoba is my biological fatherā¦ā¦ā¦..
.
Could it be true that my own biological father was the one who sent Dayo, the okada rider to terminate Yusufās life? If yes, why? ā¦ā¦What was the involvement of my own assistant doctor in all this? Is Dr Korede also an assassin?
.
Definitely, this must be part of d #surprises that Adeola talked aboutā¦ā¦ But if all these are connected to my motherās death, it wonāt be funny oo
Episode 19
( LOVE LIES )
Could it be true that my own biological father was the one who sent Dayo, the okada rider to terminate Yusufās life? If yes, why? ā¦..What was the involvement of my own assistant doctor in all this? Is Dr Korede also an assassin? Oh my God, only Jesus knows who else is still involved in the #conspiracyā¦ā¦
.
Definitely, this must be part of thesurprises that Adeola talked aboutā¦ā¦ But if all these are connected to my motherās death, it wonāt be funny oo.
.
[ In my mind, I was saying it canāt be my own fatherā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: May be it is not my own Aladejobaā¦.
.
DR KOREDE: I donāt know who your father is, but this man in question bears Folarin Williams
.
DR SANYA: Those are my fatherās initials nowā¦ā¦Could it be him?
.
[ Nobody is talking againā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: Oh my blessed Jesus!!!
.
NURSE GBEMI: Sir, that makes it easy this time aroundā¦. Finding your father shouldnāt be a big #task
.
DR SANYA: Finding him is not even my worryā¦. Canāt u guys see there are complications here? Maybe before we even go ahead to find my father, we need to ask our doctor here what his involvement was in the death of Mr Yusuf
.
MRS YUSUF: Doctor, I agree with uā¦.If Dayo here is the real killer and your father is the senderā¦ who then are u (pointing to Dr Korede)??
.
[ No response from Dr Korede]
.
ADEOLA: You people need to take things easy here o, otherwise you will missvital points in this your investigationā¦.Dr Korede here is not in the best position to open this revelation because he too was
contracted ā¦
.
[ Dr Korede nodded in #affirmation ā¦ I noticed that somebody wasnāt talking much, and that was Mr Rasaq, the brother to Mrs Yusufā¦. but I no send am]
.
ADEOLA: Sanya, how can we find your father?
.
DR SANYA: Finding him is the easiest ā¦. The real question should be when do you want us to go to him?
.
[ We all agreed to go to meet my father the following dayā¦. But throughout that night, I wasnāt myselfā¦.To avoid answering #shameful questions from my Mary, I didnāt go to her house to pass the nightā¦.I simply didnāt want her to get to know the latest, abi how will I tell her that my biological father is our next #suspect?
.
Throughout that night in my house, I was worriedā¦. I thought #deeply for several hours, trying to fish out what could possibly be the reason behind my father who is a #deacon in a Bible-believing church taking another manās life but I couldnāt come up with anything cogentā¦. What could have brought them together? But in everything, I kept on praying that this whole saga doesnāt have anything to do with my mumās death.
.
At around 8am, everybody had assembled in my hospital, Dr Korede, Dayo and Adeola inclusive. In fact, Mrs Yusuf was the first person to comeā¦..We took my hospital bus.
.
The journey to my town to see my dad lasted for 3hoursā¦.. Finally, we arrived in the townā¦., straight to my fatherās houseā¦.. On the way, Adeola started advising us on how to go about it:
.
ADEOLA: We canāt all go in at the same timeā¦. Sanya, you can only go in with one of us. The rest will be joining u later. Your father can recognise Dr Korede and Dayo very well, so u canāt go in with themā¦.Mrs Yusuf may not be able to control her emotions before him, so I wonāt advise u go in with her alone. ā¦You are not used to this man here (pointing to Mr Rasaq), so the two of u wonāt flow well before fatherā¦.As for me, I donāt wanna see him now! I think your nurse here remains the only #credible person to go in with uā¦..
.
[ Oh my God, I canāt believe I was planning seriously like that on my own fatherā¦..but every #hidden_truth must be out, I didnāt care how]
.
ADEOLA: I donāt know how you will do it, you and this nurse must just flow well, thank God she is not even in uniform.
.
[At this time, we were almost approaching our buildingā¦. I pointed to the house for them, and we had to park few houses to it to actually finalise our planā¦..]
.
ADEOLA: We will be here waiting, flash my number whenever u think itās right to come inā¦. I just hope u have an #already_made story on ground to buy time with and to serve as your preambleā¦.??
.
[ At that point, nothing else came to my mind apart from the issue of wife that my dad had been disturbing me withā¦ā¦Itās actually a good topic to start withā¦..I turned to nurse Gbemi ā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Iām taking you in as mywife_to_be ā¦ā¦..and you must act accordingly.
.
NURSE GBEMI: Deal, sir
.
DR SANYA: To avoid any damaging error, your name remains Gbemisola
.
NURSE GBEMI: No problem, dear
.
[ Did I just hear ādearā? ā¦. If my Mary hears that, hmmmmm. We all #laughed at how fast nurse Gbemisola was learningā¦..,except Mrs Yusuf who wasnāt looking satisfied with the planā¦ā¦ itāsunderstandable]
.
ADEOLA: Perfectā¦. It seems we are all set. Sanya, donāt forget all I told you on phone yesterdayā¦.. #shocks andsurprises await you in this investigationā¦.., no matter what you hear or see, try to be a manā¦
.
DR SANYA: (Smiling) Sure!
.
ADEOLA: Flash my number when it is clear for us to come in
.
DR SANYA: No wahala
.
[ Nurse Gbemi and I came down from the busā¦.., heading towards the gate, my phone started ringingā¦. It was a phone call from my Maryā¦.. I was a bit shockedā¦ Why could she be calling me at a #crucial time like this? After all, I didnāt tell her I was going anywhereā¦., like I said earlier, it sounds #shameful telling my #fiancee that I was going with my team to see my father, who to us, is amurder__suspect ā¦. I stood at our gate and picked the callā¦ā¦ā¦]
.
PHONE CONVERSATION
.
DR SANYA: Hello, dear
.
MARY: Baby, how are u?
.
DR SANYA: Iām not sure I am fine o
.
MARY: (A bit surprised) Whatās the matter?
.
DR SANYA: Work! I have been battling with so many life-threatning issues in the office since morningā¦.
.
[Lie number 1]
.
MARY: Eeyaā¦.. Sorry dear
.
DR SANYA: In fact, right now I am in the wardā¦..
.
[ Lie number 2 ]
.
DR SANYA: What about you? Didnāt you go to office today?
.
MARY: I am calling u from office right now since u wonāt bother to call me since morningā¦.. You never even bothered to come home yesterday eveningā¦.. I really missed u
.
[ I was becoming so #impatient with the time-wasting phone call but I never wanted her to notice it]
.
DR SANYA: I missed u more, honeyā¦ā¦ So, how is #office running?
.
MARY: Office is there o, we are running things. I will soon be going home shaā¦
.
DR SANYA: Call me when u get home, I am busy here
.
MARY: Okayā¦.Please baby, take good care of yourself for me oo
.
DR SANYA: All right, I will.
.
[ The call ended. I turned to nurse Gbemi, the person coming in with me as my #fianceeā¦..Letās go.]
.
I knocked at the gate and #Rasheed , the gate-keeper a.k.a Alomo quickly opened it for me. He was so glad to see me in the house with a woman at lastā¦.
.
From his reaction to us I knew thatRasheed had jumped to the conclusion that nurse Gbemi was my wife-to-be. So, I never needed to lie to him again, he had lied to himself.
.
We exchanged pleasantriesā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Do I meet dad at home?
.
RASHEED: Yes, of courseā¦ā¦ Isnāt he expecting you?
.
[ I never bothered to answer that question before Gbemisola and I moved inā¦..]
.
The door to the main sitting room was not locked, so we entered #freely only to meet the greatest shock so far in the investigation ā¦ā¦.
.
Right there in the sitting room, I met my own #Mary in a talk with my fatherā¦ā¦
āāā
āāā
WHAT NEXT???
Episode 20
{OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN}
================================
Adeola warned me against the investigationā¦. na me no listen oooā¦ At a time, she even tried discouraging me from continuing, saying that the #shocks and #surprises therein may live with me foreverā¦.hmmmmm. Does that mean that some things in life are better left as secrets?
.Even Nurse Gbemi, seeing my Mary on seat with my father shouted Jesus because she was by my side at the gate a minute ago when I received Maryās call that she was in her officeā¦.is my fatherās sitting room now the office? Besides all these, how did she locate my fatherās house because I canāt remember ever taking her homeā¦..
.Wait oooooooo, or is my Maryā¦, sorry is Mary part of the #conspiracy surrounding Yusufās death? Ah! ā¦.
.
All these were the thoughts in my mind within the few seconds that I saw themā¦.Mary hung down her head, I guess shame of lieing to me had already caught up with herā¦, I too lied, after all, I said I was in the office too a minute ago, not in my home townā¦.but the matter on ground don pass all thatā¦.Nurse Gbemisola just stood at a spot speechlesslyā¦..My bones were shaking inside my body. Yes, at the car outside, Adeola told me to act like a real man no matter what I encounter in the course of this investigationā¦, but as it is now, water don dey pass gaariā¦. I am loosing it. Gbemisola was expecting me to say something, I also was expecting either my father or Mary to start talkingā¦..Just as u know, the original plan we brought in is #damaged alreadyā¦.
.
FATHER: Welcome, my boy
.
[ No response]
.
FATHER: I know you are surprised by this seatingā¦. We too were never expecting youā¦.
.
[ Those were never the statements I was expecting to start hearing, so I cut in #angrily]
.
DR SANYA: Stop it, dad! Common dad, your statements are off-pointsā¦. For Godās sake this is my fiancĆ©e on seat beside u, a lady who told me two minutes ago that she was in office back then in Ibadanā¦.
.
FATHER: Son, what are u trying to insinuate?
.
DR SANYA: I am not yet at any conclusion, especially with what brought me home, I think the two of you need to start telling me what this your meeting is all about
.
[ My dad became more curious, wanting to know why I am at homeā¦]
.
FATHER: Son, what brought you home?
.
DR SANYA: Tell me, what brought Mary home?
.
[ Father stood up gently and moved closer to meā¦., he placed a hand on my shoulderā¦.]
.
FATHER: (Calmly) I understand how you feelā¦. But we can talk about this without making it dramaticā¦.
.
[ I agreed to hear him out, so I sat down and brought Gbemisola along as she sat by my sideā¦. Maryās eyes never left Gbemisolaās body as we sit down. ā¦Gbemisola collected my phone from me, I didnāt even care to know what she wanted to do with it]
.
DR SANYA: Whatās Mary doing here, dad?
.
[ I noticed that Gbemisola was dialling a number on my phoneā¦..
.
FATHER: Calm down. I just hope u know that l am not into any love-relationship with your girlā¦
.
[ For the first time, Mary cut in]
.
MARY: Daddy, with whom you are seeing by his side right there, can I still be called his girl?
.
[ That question sunk into me real deepā¦.In my mind, I started hoping they are not trying to divert my mind from the real thing that had brought them together under the same roofā¦. Hmmmmm, I think I need #Adeola here nowā¦.Somebody must unravel the drama going on in this sitting room as quick as possibleā¦.]
.
FATHER: Common Mary, donāt talk like that. We donāt even know why they are hereā¦.
.
DR SANYA: (Talking to Mary) So, this is your officeā¦
.
MARY: And is here your own hospital ward?
.
[ Nice one! See confidence!!]
.
DR SANYA: So, you and my father have been running things togetherā¦.
.
FATHER: Running things together?? What do u mean by that, boy?
.
DR SANYA: The game is up, dad.
.
MARY: You are losing it, Sanya. So you could think I am dating your own fatherā¦
.
[ I cut in sharply on top of my voice that even scared Gbemisola]
.
DR SANYA: Will you shut up! Who is talking about #love here?
.
[ My team ( Dr Korede, Mrs Yusuf, Mr Rasaq, Dayo and Adeola) all rushed in at onceā¦]
.
ADEOLA: Itās all right, Sanya. Calm down, please. I know you are having that pain of betrayal right now, but u still need to take things easyā¦., remember what I told youā¦. You must act like a man, no matter the situationā¦.
.
[ Adeolaās voice has d magic of calming me downā¦. I allowed her to have the floorā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Thanks for comingā¦., but I didnāt call u
.
NURSE GBEMI: I did.
.
DR SANYA: Good
.
[ My dad and Mary looked on, not getting what was going onā¦.but I began to observe their looks on Dr Korede and Dayoā¦, that began to confirm it to me that these people knew one another and that they have been working togetherā¦.. Oh my God. Dad went to sit down while Mary looked so regretfulā¦.. But why did they kill Yusuf #collaborately ??
.
DR SANYA: Daddy, I am very sure u recognise this okada man hereā¦.I learnt his name is Dayoā¦.
.
FATHER: Of course, I know him very wellā¦. Look, I now know why you people are hereā¦ You want to know why Yusuf had to die
.
DR SANYA: No, we are here to know why you and your people had to kill Yusuf
.
FATHER: My people?? Who are my people?
.
DR SANYA: This man called Dayo, my assistant doctor here and this Maryā¦.
.
FATHER: (Smiling) Sanya, there are so many things you donāt understand yetā¦.
.
DR SANYA: You can start talking dad, thatās why we are here
.
FATHER: I knew Yusuf before you ever met himā¦., his father and I used to be intimate friends back then in the late 1970s when we were both working with a Chinese Company in Lagosā¦. It was through Yusufās father that I got to know your mother. Then, Yusufās father told me they were casual friends, and he urged me to woo herā¦ I did and she agreed to date me. I never knew that your mother was his loverā¦. For more than a year, your mother dated the two of us and I never knew ā¦..until one day in April, 1980. I was in a bank and armed robbers stormed itā¦.After robbing for close to 2hours, they wanted to go away with their millions. As they were leaving the banking hall, one of them just grapped me from where I was on my bellyā¦.they dragged me straight to their car outside. I was put inside their car #boot. Believe me, I never knew I would make it. After what I knew to be a long drive, I was dropped down and they drove #off. I got to know that I had been taking to Ondo town in Ondo State all the way from Ogbomoso in Oyo State here through a #sign_board nearby
.
[ Everyone of us was listening patiently to know how that resulted into Yusufās deathā¦.]
.
FATHER: Where I was on the ground, I was very weakā¦., nobody was around. I walked for about a #kilometer before I could see an hotel. I decided to go in and seek for help, at least for money that can transport me back to #Ogbomosoā¦. I was at the reception when I saw my woman, your mother coming out #romantically of a hotel room with Yusufās fatherā¦.This was your mother who told me she was visiting her parents in Ekitiā¦ I was #heartbroken. They never expected me to be there at that time. I had to walk out of the hotel immediately in total disappointmentā¦. hmmmmm . Your mother came back home that same to beg me. I vowed never to have anything to do with her anymore. But I was forced to change my decision when your mother said she did it to save my lifeā¦
.
DR SANYA: How?
.
FATHER: According to her, she wanted to leave Yusufās father immediately she started dating me but Yusufās father wouldnāt allow her. When she attempted to #forcefully leave him, that was when he threatened to kill me to have her to herselfā¦. As a way out, he demanded to have her to himself for 3 good daysā¦., it was on the third day that I caught themā¦ā¦.Believe me, I couldnāt understand why Yusufās father behaved that way, after all, he was the one who introduced her to me and confirm that I could date herā¦.Few weeks after, Yusufās father quited his job with the Chinese company and left the town of Ogbomoso.
.
[ Everybody was listening #attentively]
.
DR SANYA: (Had a deep breath) So, what later happened?
.
FATHER: I forgave your mother out of the #true_love I had for herā¦ she demanded we relocate to Ibadan. So, I quited my job with the Chinese company in Ogbomoso to start afresh in Ibadan. We gave birth to you in Ibadan. After 4years of being in Ibadan,ā¦. then you were just 3years old, I came back from work one day, only to meet my wife in her pool of #blood ā¦.it was a day I will never forget. I rushed her to the hospital where she was eventually confirmed dead.
.
DR SANYA: Who could have come home to assassinate my mother in such cold blood?
.
FATHER: I wouldnāt have known it was Yusufās father if not for my landlord who was an Islamic Cleric (Alfa). What could I do? I didnāt even know where to find himā¦..
.
[ At this point, I noticed that tears were dropping uncontrollably from the eyes of Adeolaā¦.]
.
FATHER: After the painful death of your mother, I vowed never to re-marry. So, I relocated to this town which is my home-town to raise u all by myselfā¦.
.
DR SANYA: And what about Yusufās father, did u later hear from him?
.
FATHER: Hmmmmā¦.do u still remember the man I met infront of your hospital about a year ago the very day your uncle Kolapoās wife put to bed in your hospital?
.
DR SANYA: One mad man like that??
.
FATHER: Yes
.
DR SANYA: Do u know him?
.
FATHER: He was the Yusufās father
.
DR SANYA: Jesus!!!
.
FATHER: Your belief is that Yusuf was a good young man because he saved u from cultists back then on campus ā¦.. hmmmm. He rescued u from them that day in order to pay the cultists back for killing a cousin of his. Donāt forget that in the process, he #single_handedly killed few of them. Ordinary person canāt achieve that.
.
[ I turned to Adeola..]
.
DR SANYA: Could that be true?
.
ADEOLA: Very true! ā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Even at that, he didnāt deserve to dieā¦
.
[ Mary cut in]
.
MARY: Are you sure?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, of course! His father killed my mum and the man is out there paying for his sinsā¦.You people should have realised that Yusuf was not his father.
.
MARY: You never knew Yusufā¦.Or maybe you knew a side of his but never knew the other side of his #coin. He was taking after his father and so, he had to die
.
DR SANYA: You??ā¦.From your mouth?ā¦. Wait a minute, donāt tell me you are the brain behind the killing of that innocent manā¦.
.
MARY: I didnāt know he was your friend and I guess he too never knew me as your fiancĆ©e ā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Was that his sin?
.
MARY: No!ā¦.
.
DR SANYA: (Shouting) What then did the innocent Yusuf do to you people?
.
FATHER: (Frankly) He raped her!
.
DR SANYA: Who raped who?
.
MARY: (In tears) Yusuf, your so-called good innocent friend raped me few weeks to his death
.
DR SANYA: What!!!!!
Episode 21
THE STORY BEHIND THE MURDER
.>
>
.
āāWhat did I just hear? Yusuf raped my own Mary few weeks to his death? Could this be true or these people are just trying to frame things up just to drawsympathy and #justification for the act of killingā¦.??? I was swept off balance, my legs were shaking inside my trousersā¦..,even Mrs Yusuf looked fed-up of the whole thing since she kept on discovering #dirty things about her late husband and his familyā¦.. I never even knew the next question to ask until our
mysterious ADEOLA came to my rescue:
.
ADEOLA: (Talking to Mary) When precisely did Yusuf rape you?
.
MARY: (Amidst tears) It was on the 4th of last monthā¦.
.
ADEOLA: Meaning that it is now 5weeks ago, right?
.
MARY: Yes!
.
ADEOLA: But ore, you never told your manā¦..why?
.
MARY: Habaa! Why are u talking as if you donāt understand Nigerian menā¦.., even if you donāt, will u say you canāt predict what this Sanya can do again in such situation if told?
.
[ Adeola had a #deep breathā¦..Our mysterious Adeola is not the kind of person you can lie to, she seemed to know everythingā¦.. Since she wasnāt ready to question Mary further, I knew she was satisfied by all her responsesā¦..]
.
DR SANYA: All that aside, where and how did he rape you?
.
MARY: Yusuf was an old friend of mine back then on campus, even before you and I metā¦..We were so intimate to the extent that I started expecting him to #propose to me but he never did, he was so deep in love with a JAMBITO he met when he was in year threeā¦ Since he wasnāt ready to commence the journey of #love with me, I decided to move onā¦., but throughout, even after our NYSC, we never lost contactā¦. Yusuf started disturbing me to date him about 6months ago nowā¦.I turned him down severally because I never wanted to cheat on you but the guy wonāt listenā¦.He kept on pressurising me and my excuse too kept on remainning the same that I was already in love with someone elseā¦ā¦Throughout this period, I reduced my #intimacy with himā¦ About 3months ago, Yusuf stopped talking about it, according to him when I thanked him for his #understanding, he said it was his fault that if he had opened up to me about his feelings then, another man wouldnāt have had me before him. I was so glad he could come to that understanding and soon, we got back to our old intimate ways of doing things, not knowing that he was pretending to me in order to have a bite of the #cakeā¦.. I was used to his house and he too was used to mine. In fact, he introduced a girlfriend of his to me one day, I became so much comfortable around him. 5weeks ago, on the 4th precisely, last month, around 11:25pm in the night, hard knocks on my door woke me upā¦., opening the door, I saw Yusuf standing. As a good friend, I allowed him in. When I enquired of where he was coming from at that #ungodly hour of the day, he replied that he stayed late at a friendās place and that it was dangerous of him going back home at the time due to the heavy security of #night_watchmen in his street. Knowing all these, I asked him why he never wanted to spend the night with the friendā¦.Believe me, Yusuf still #cleverly answered me, saying that some friends are too dangerous to pass the night with. (#Mary_had_a_deep_breath) When he noticed that my questions were becoming too much, he told me he only wanted to pass the night right there on the floor of my sitting room and that I could go back to my roomā¦. I trusted him and I allowed him. But rather than keeping to his words, Yusuf woke up in the middle of the night, came to my room and forcefully had canal knowledge of meā¦.
.
[ Mary finally bursted into #uncontrollable tearsā¦.Adeola whose eyes too were suffused with tears for Mary went closer to her to pet herā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: (Almost crying) But daddy, what was our crime to the family of Yusuf?ā¦ā¦.. His father forcefully dated my mother and the son too forcefully had sexual knowledge of my fiancĆ©eā¦.Why???
.
[ Instead of getting response from my dad, it was our mysterious ADEOLA that replied meā¦]
.
.
ADEOLA: Sanya, I have a question for youā¦.
.
DR SANYA: Yes, go aheadā¦, Iām listening
.
ADEOLA: If you had known all these revelations about Yusuf and his father before now, would you still have done everything you did to try to save Yusufās life when he was rushed to your hospital?
.
[ J.E.S.U.Sā¦ā¦. See question!]
.
DR SANYA: Believe me Adeola, at this juncture, I donāt know.
.
[ Adeola chuckled]
.
MARY: I never even had the thought of taking his life initiallyā¦. I expected him to show signs of #remorse after the act, but instead of apologising to me, he started boastingā¦.., at a time, he was eventhreatning me that he would report the act to my guy and that my guy would breakup with me for him to then have meā¦.. I doubt it if he knew it was you, his friendā¦.. I replied him that I trusted you ā¦., that you canāt break up with me on the note of that, that was when he then said the #worst ā¦..(#paused)
.
DR SANYA: (Anxiously) What did he say?
.
MARY: He vowed to kill you
.
DR SANYA: What!
.
[ Adeola smiled ]
.
MARY: Your Yusuf said he wouldnāt mind taking your life for him to have meā¦.I didnāt even gave it much thought at first until when it was only me at homeā¦. He could kill you, he had always been a desperate guy since he was ahard_hearted cultist back then on campus. The fact that I didnāt want to lose you, coupled with the fact that he hurt me without any apology made me to decide to act fastā¦ā¦
.
DR SANYA: (Deep breath) Hmmmmmm
.
MARY: Sanya, I did my home work on you and I got to know your home town addressā¦..
.
DR SANYA: Why?
.
MARY: I was planning hard to take Yusufās life for the safety of the two of us. If Yusufās father could kill your own mother in cold blood, what assurance do I have that the son would think twice before taking your own lifeā¦.killing runs in their blood. So, I deemed it necessary to carry your only remainning parent along
.
DR SANYA: What gave you the confidence then that my father would want to be part of the #murder ??
.
MARY: My instinctā¦. it has never failed me
.
[ My father cut in ]
.
FATHER: Yes, your woman contacted me and explained everything to meā¦.. Since it concerned your safety, I didnāt mind killing even Mr President. We had an elaborate plan that would make it difficult for the police to trace the #murder back to us and we hatched itā¦ But believe me, I never knew he was also a child to the late Engineer Badmus Alabi Olaosebikan
.
MRS YUSUF: (Grieving) I have always known that his lifestyle would send him to early graveā¦, so I warned him but he wouldnāt listen
.
FATHER: We made research about his life for good two weeks, including his house and work place addressesā¦..When all these were successfully done, we needed the help of a medical personnel for a #slow_poison ā¦., no other name came to mind apart from your assistantās nameā¦., I mean Dr Korede hereā¦.. We also explained the situation to him and after much persuasion, he agreed to join us. To administer it became another problemā¦. We needed somebody inside his own house ā¦..and unfortunately for us, he had no #house_maid that we could contact ā¦..The only person living with him was this his wife, we couldnāt contact his wife to help us poison her husband now, abi who would do that? We decided to re-strategise and we started thinking of another way of using our newly acquired #slow_poison tablet from Dr Koredeā¦.
.
MARY: Dear, do u remember the day you came to my house from work to tell me that you noticed a car trailed you to my house from office?
.
[ I nodded in affirmation]
.
MARY: I was terribly scared ā¦. I had to called my own team also that we needed to speed up action on our suspect before he gets to our person which is you
.
DR KOREDE: Yes, itās true. I got to recognise Yusuf through a photograph of his provided to us through your Mary. So, a day came that I saw him being dropped by an okada rider at a mechanic workshop very close to my own houseā¦. I over-heard him telling the bike-man to awaits his call. From there, I knew they must be close. So, I went after the bike man and I got to know his (bike man) house. The people living around the house made me to understand that his name is #Dayoā¦.. In the evening of that same day, I visited him and we talkedā¦.
.
DAYO: Yes, Dr Korede visited me. He told me their plan. At first, I declined but when an offer of 500k was presented to me, I changed mindā¦, after all Mr Yusuf no be my family memberā¦. I was just his personal okada man whenever he wasnāt going out with his carā¦ Who wouldnāt accept such #bountiful and #mouth_watering offer to terminate a stingy man like Mr Yusuf??ā¦. Few days to that time, I still went to him for financial assistanceā¦.I needed just 3k to take my sick mother for treatments at a nearby general hospital, but he turned me down, telling me that he was in #recessionā¦.na him be Nigeria? Imagine, a whole M.D of K&K plastic companyā¦.
.
MARY: Dayo did not have access to his kitchen but he told us he could be having access to his food the following morning, provided his mechanic wasnāt able to resolve the fault of his car quickly. We were happy and we started hoping for our luck the following dayā¦ā¦
.
DAYO: At around 9 oāclock the following morning, I called Dr Korede to meet me at a particular junction with the #poison ā¦..
.
[ Dayo turned to Mrs Yusuf]
.
DAYO: Madam, you made the killing of your husband so easy for usā¦
.
MRS YUSUF: (Crying) How?
.
DAYO: I was the one who came to pick him at home the morning his food was poisoned because his mechanic wasnāt through yet on his carā¦.. I overheard him telling you to help him bring his food to his office later in the dayā¦.but you said you wonāt. He appealed to you longer but you remained adamant. You advised he could send me, his bike man home to get the food for him. Indeed, he agreed to send me to bring him the food and that was how we had the opportunity to carry out our intention
.
MRS YUSUF: (Crying) I didnāt just insist that I wonāt bring the food to his officeā¦. It was because the last time I visited his office to give him lunch, I met him with another woman in a romantic mood right inside his office. He was just too
flirty. Ever since then, I have vowed never to step my feet into his office againā¦.
.
FATHER: That was the decision of yours that favoured usā¦
.
DR KOREDE: Yes, it favoured us and Yusuf was poisoned. He never knew he had been poisoned until after 3daysā¦ By then, it was difficult to trace it to anybody, not even to this Dayo, his okada man. Since the deceased was no longer available to be questioned, the only suspect remained you, the wife.
.
MRS YUSUF: Oh my God!!!!
.
MAJOR QUESTION ON MY MIND: This Adeola must be indeed mysteriousā¦abi, how did she know that these people were connected to the murder of Yusuf, after all she wasnāt part of them? Hmmmmm
Episode 22
(THE KILLER-SQUARD)
============================
What else can I even say? What else is there to #investigate? Havenāt we known the killer ā¦sorry, the killers of Yusuf already?
.
If you have indeed been following the story from the beginning, you will know that truly, the murderers of Yusuf really did a #brilliant brain work before they could take him down but thank God, they have been foundā¦.. What pained me most was that I never knew that the #killer_squard I was looking for are even my people,ā¦.I couldnāt smell it, poor me!
.
Mrs Yusuf and her brother(Rasaq) haveunanimously decided to let the matter rest in peaceā¦., according to them, they were not ready to drag case with the killersā¦.. they saw everything the killers did as #desperate attempts to stop the evils and wickedness the family of Yusuf was distributingā¦.. If Yusuf had not died, only God knows who would have been his next victimā¦.. Rasaq did not just give up on the matter without giving a piece of his mind to the killers (Mary, Dr Korede, Dayo and my dad):
.
RASAQ: We have decided to let the matter rest hereā¦ā¦..and we are going to forever be pretending as if everything we heard here were never saidā¦ā¦, meaning that we are not going into anylegal_battle with u guysā¦.
.
[ I could see the signs of relief on the killers, especially Dr Korede who had thought that an end had come to his medical career]
.
RASAQ: But all the same, letās all learn a big lesson in thisā¦. Firstly, the act of paying evil back with evil should be discouraged among #humanity ā¦., cutting of head canāt be the solution to its headache. Look at the kind of plans u hatched for the assassination of another fellow human being, if you guys have gone through that kind of stress to correct him, I am sure Yusuf would have been alive today as a changed man.
.
[ Very correctā¦..We all breathed deeply down in us]
.
RASAQ: (Almost crying) You guys should have done better than ending his life in such a #painful mannerā¦..
.
FATHER: What else can we say? You have said it all, my son. Two wrongs donāt make a right. In an attempt to stop the late Yusuf from being the killer of Sanya, our #breadwinner, we ended up being his own killersā¦..what a pity! If only we can turn back the hands of time, we would make correctionsā¦..
.
[ From the tone of my father, you could easily see how sorry he wasā¦.Mrs Yusuf was just crying profuselyā¦.But I noticed that Adeola looked on at everybody with a #mocking smiling lookā¦.., I began to ask myself what exactly could be wrong with our mysterious friendā¦.]
.
DR KOREDE: It is a shame that I, a life-saver turned myself to a life-takerā¦.. I am not proud of what I did at all. Even though we did it for the Sanya here to live, yet, we should have known that there is nojustification for crime. ā¦.
.
[ Everybody involved in the killing of Yusuf was deeply sorry]
.
MARY: I started it, so I caused it allā¦ I am sorryā¦. We are sorry. Kindly find a place in your heart to forgive us.
.
[ Hearing Mary apologised, Adeolamockingly smiled the moreā¦..why was Adeola making jest of those apologising?]
.
MRS YUSUF: You people have been forgiven by us. Just pray to God to forgive you. As for my late husband, he got what he deserved.
.
[ In my mind, I started asking myself if Yusuf indeed deserved such death from mortal beings like himselfā¦., abi havenāt we all sinned and come short of the glory of God?]
.
[But far beyond knowing the killers of Yusuf, there are still more questions in my mind, begging for answers]
.
Yes, the murderers may have been foundā¦,but what next between my Mary and I?ā¦.. Does that mean that it is over between us? Should I just move on with my life and see her as a wicked murderer, forgetting that she became a murderer for me to live??? Also, what of Adeola who unravelled the whole mystery to usā¦how did she find out about the killersā activities when she wasnāt part of the murder in the first place?? Maybe we should just ask the question of WHO IS ADEOLA?
.
DR SANYA: (Talking to my Mary) Mary, my dearā¦.it pleases me to tell you that the #rape is not enough reason to quit our relationshipā¦..
.
[Everybody was happy to hear that]
.
DR SANYA: I still need you in my life and I am marrying youā¦
.
[ Mary cut in]
.
MARY: No, you canāt marry meā¦., even our relationship canāt continue any longer
.
[ I was speechless for secondsā¦]
.
DR SANYA: Why?
.
MARY: It is late alreadyā¦.
.
DR SANYA: What do u mean by it is late already?
.
MARY: You met me here few hours agoā¦..What do u think I came for?
.
[ I was confusedā¦. At this juncture, I realised that I havenāt even known why she came to see my father in the first placeā¦.]
.
DR SANYA: (Calmly) Believe me, there is no way I can know why you are here in the first place unless u tell me ā¦
.
MARY: Few days ago, I started feeling funny bodilyā¦.it was yesterday that I went to an hospital for medical check-up, there it was confirmed to me that I was few weeks pregnantā¦..So, my coming here was to inform my #confidant who is your father
.
[ Father nodded in affirmation. Rather than being taken by shock like the rest of us, Adeola just smiled broadlyā¦..,this again amazed me. With all Mary has said so far concerning how she didnāt want our relationship to continue, did anybody still need to be told that the pregnancy was not mine?]
.
MARY: I am sure you are not expecting me to tell you that the pregnancy does not belong to youā¦
.
[ I still remained speechlessā¦.Mrs Yusuf cut in ]
.
MRS YUSUF: It belongs to my late husband, right?
.
MARY: Yes, the pregnancy is his. It is the product of the #rape
Episode 23
(THE LAST NAIL THAT CLOSES THE COFFIN)
.
(Mrs Yusuf, knowing that her late husband owned the pregnancy again, was very sadā¦.)
.
MRS YUSUF: Oh my God!
.
[ Mrs Yusuf hung down her head, agonising ā¦..At this point, our mysterious friend, Adeola decided to break her silenceā¦.]
.
ADEOLA: Sanya, are u shocked by all these revelations? You need not be. I warned you from the beginning, didnāt I? I told you that the revelations from the investigation you were embarking on may leave your life forever changedā¦ā¦you thought I was blabbing, right?
.
DR SANYA: Hmmmmmmā¦.. you predicted it, ā¦.Yes, I didnāt listen, I was just clouded by my desperationā¦.. But in all these revelations now, there is one thing that is still not clear to meā¦, and only you can clear it for me
.
ADEOLA: Ask me, what is it?
.
DR SANYA: (Calmly) Adeola, who are you?
.
[ Without wasting further time, Adeola replied me frankly as if she had been expecting the question]
.
ADEOLA: I am your mother!
.
DR SANYA: My mother??
.
ADEOLA: Yes, I am your late mother killed by Yusufās fatherā¦.
.
[ Everyone of us in the living room became so terrifiedā¦. my father looked on at herā¦.Adeola stood up gently to address usā¦]
.
ADEOLA: Believe me, I had patiently been expecting this momentā¦., and I knew it will be the last # shock that will seal your investigation..,I mean the last nail that closes the coffinā¦.. I am not the Adeola you have all thought I wasā¦.
.
[ The shock on everybodyās faces was obviousā¦ā¦, even the silence existing in the living room was more than the one at the cemeteryā¦..]
.
ADEOLA: Your Adeola had since died in a fatal bike accident. I needed a human body to get to you people and I found her person to be the best character I needed to convince youā¦. So, I am only working with her bodyā¦.Iām not your fetish and over-jealous Adeola. Sanya, I am your biological mother!
.
[ Adeola turned to my father]
.
ADEOLA: (Talking to my father) Dear, I just hope you are not doubting meā¦.., and in case you donāt believe me, let me quickly remind you of what I said last in your arms that very day you lifted me up from the pool of my blood: I told you to contact the alfa living with us in the same neighborhood for the cause of my deathā¦..and that you must take good care of my son, Sanya and also that u must never tell him how I died unless it becomes so necessary like thisā¦.. after saying all these, I gave up the ghost. Do you remember?
.
[ My father screamed in extreme shock]
.
FATHER: Ahhhhh!!!! Mummy Sanya!
.
ADEOLA: Yes, I am mummy Sanyaā¦.and mummy Sanya never wanted her Sanya to die prematurely from the hand of the son of the man that murdered herā¦., that was why I manipulated the thoughts of everyone involved in the murder, starting from the Mary here. Ordinarily, the Mary here isnāt the kind of person that will think of taking the life of a cockroach, not to talk of that of a human being. I entered into them all and manipulated them to start planning to kill Yusufā¦., that was why when they were apologising, for my mind, I was mocking themā¦. do you guys think you did the killing intentionallyā¦.??
.
[ Throughout, we all remained calmed in our shock ā¦.abi, who dare talk when ghost is talking?]
.
DR SANYA: (Stuttering) Butā¦butā¦butā¦..
.
ADEOLA: Yes, I manipulated them all, including youā¦
.
[ I cut in anxiously]
.
DR SANYA: Including me?? As how? I didnāt kill Yusuf
.
ADEOLA: Of course, you didnāt kill him but you investigated his deathā¦You are not a police officer, yet you were so interested in knowing the cause of Yusufās deathā¦#Why?ā¦ Do u think it was ordinary?
.
DR SANYA: Oh my God!!!
.
ADEOLA: If you had not investigated the death, how would all these revelations had come out?
.
MARY( Amidst tears) As it is now, my life is ruined. Due to the pregnancy in me, I have lost the love of my life who is your son
.
[ Adeola laughed broadly]
.
ADEOLA: Pregnancy?? Which pregnancy?ā¦..Were u pregnant?
.
MARY: Yes, I am. A qualified medical doctor confirmed it for me yesterdayā¦
.
[ I looked on at Adeolaā¦sorry, I looked on at my mum with utmost attentionā¦.]
.
ADEOLA: Go back to the same doctor tomorrow and re-do the testā¦..My daughter, u are as free as air. Yourfirst_born is going to be for my son hereā¦
.
[ The shock became unbearable for my little body, so I #fainted straightaway, making that the last thing I heardā¦..]
Episode 24
( THE FINAL SAGA)
.I woke up in a nearby hospital, with Dr Korede, my Mary and my beloved father beside meā¦..The first question I asked them after I woke up was WHERE IS MY MUM? Guys, this was a woman I never grew up to knowā¦You can imagine the painā¦]
.
FATHER: My boy, I am happy u are finally aroundā¦.. Your mother asked us to tell you that she loved you so much and that she would never for once leave your sideā¦
.
[ I looked round at the faces of Dr Korede and my Maryā¦they both nodded in support of what my dad saidā¦I started crying and they did their best calming me downā¦]
.
DR SANYA: So, where is she now?
.
FATHER: You mean your mother??
.
DR SANYA: Yes, dad
.
FATHER: She disappeared immediately she gave the instructionsā¦..
.
[ What else could I say? So, it wasnāt even my Mary, my father, and my assistant doctor that killed Sanya, they were all manipulated. Maybe that was why it never occurred to the deceased wife to hand us over to the policeā¦ hmmm, God is great! I will forever remain greatful to my mum for being a true mother, even in death]
.
DR SANYA: (Talking to Dr Korede and my Mary) Thanks guysā¦
.
DR KOREDE: You are welcome
.
DR SANYA: (Talking to Dr Korede) Doc, I had slept for how many hours here?
.
DR KOREDE: You slept for good 26 hours, 37minutes
.
DR SANYA: Oh my God!ā¦ I am sure I must have fainted due to too much of shock
.
DR KOREDE: Exactly! The resident doctor here even confirmed it
.
DR SANYA: Yes, that reminds meā¦..which hospital is this?
.
DR KOREDE: It is a state-owned general hospital
.
DR SANYA: And where is nurse Gbemisola?
.
DR KOREDE: I have since yesterday sent her back to the hospital to oversee things till we are backā¦.Others are back to their respective destinationsā¦..The deceased wife said she would meet with Yusufās family members today to discuss his burialā¦.
.
[ I asked Dr Korede to switch on my phoneā¦.right there, Mrs Yusufās call came inā¦I picked the call and she was so glad to know that I was back to lifeā¦.our call together lasted for more than 3minutesā¦.she told me the family had agreed to come for the body the following day for proper burialā¦. while I was on the phone with Mrs Yusuf, I noticed that Dr Korede was on his phone with nurse Gbemisola too, sharing the good news of my coming back to life with herā¦ā¦ The atmosphere in the hospital room seemed lighted up with #joy_unspeakable ā¦.The resident doctor, knowing fully well that Dr Korede and I are also medical doctors, in the evening of that same day, he discharged meā¦., and before the day ended, I was back to Ibadan, my town of residence.
.
True to Adeolaās words, sorryā¦ true to my mumās words, I myself carried out another series of #pregnancy_test on my Mary, they all came out #negativeā¦. This life sha! We were very glad.
.
Unfortunately, my dad fell terribly ill a month after and he eventually #died ]
.
Mary and I got married 6months after the incidenceā¦ā¦ In the same month of my marriage, Dr Korede married our nurse Gbemisolaā¦.The former Mrs Yusuf was the best lady for our wives on the wedding daysā¦
.
Mrs Yusuf travelled out of the country thereafter and he eventually got married to a white manā¦..
.
My marriage with my Mary was blessed with a set of twins, a male and a female and I named them after my dad and mum because I strongly believed they have come to stay by my side just as my mum said before she finally leftā¦ā¦
.
Regarding nurse Gbemisola and Dr Koredeā¦ Shortly after their marriage, they decided to relocate to Ghana to establish their own hospital there. Allowing them to leave was really a tough decision for me to take. Dr Korede and nurse Gbemisola were like a brother and sister that I never had. As I am writing this story, nurse Gbemisola is already in the pregnancy of their second babyā¦.Even the former Mrs Yusuf called me last week from #Canada that she just had a set of twins, both males. Canāt you see now that the Lord is good?
.
Helloo, there is nothing in this LIFE ā¦. no matter what we are seeing in it, it is still empty. LIFE is short and DEATH is sure!
.
If my dead mother could come back from being dead to save my life, then I am beginning to believe that there is a strong link between LIFE & DEATH that we human beings still never discover.
.
So my people, you have read THE PASTā¦. likewise HELL IN HEAVEN, now it is LIFE & DEATH. So, what next? I donāt know yet. But while we are waiting for another #inspiring, #captivating, #glamorous, #intriguing, #mind_blowing, #suspence_filled and #educative story package from the giver Himself(GOD), I wish to read your comments on this.
.
Please, stay away from whatever may cut short your life. Truly, life is meant to be enjoyed but never forget that too much of everything is bad. Donāt end-up fruitlessly like Yusuf!!!
[b] .BYE_FOR_NOW!

THE END!
THE END!!
THE END!!!
