Episode 16

Jide swallowed the urge to push Anita away from him as she m0aned against hismouth. Even though he wanted her gone from his office, the last thing he wanted was a scene. He would have to be diplomatic. This woman, who he had cheated on his wife with, was no pushover.“Anita, please stop it.” he pleaded as he pulled away from her and turned away quickly, heading to his table. He kept his eyes down, so she could not see his real feelings reflected in them. “This is not the right time or place for this.”Anita shrugged, a knowing smile on her face. “Give me a time and place then. Today.”“No.” Jide snapped, then softened his tonewhen he saw her raise her eyebrows. “Not today, okay? I have plans.”Anita’s high-heeled shoes tapped as she walked slowly to his table and leaned over it, pushing her cleavage forward. “Fine then. Tomorrow?”Jide kept his eyes averted from the front of her dress. “It’s not that easy, Anita. I do have a full schedule this week.”“You’re not blowing me off, are you?” Anita laughed. “Not after how awesome yesterday was, baby…”“Please, Anita, don’t put words in my mouth.” Jide said crossly. “I do have a backlog of work to shovel through. And besides, I’m married, you know. Its’ not likeI can just find time every day to hang out…”“I know you’re married, dear.” Anita said silkily, her eyes narrowing. “It didn’t stop you from having fun with me, did it?”Jide sighed, but refused to meet her eyes. “Just give me time to get my head together okay?”Anita chuckled and leaned forward to pinch his cheek. “Of course, dear. I’ll give you today. Tomorrow, let’s make time out okay, so I don’t begin to feel neglected or used. You know the saying-hell hath no fury…”Jide recognized the implied threat in her words. “Sure, no problem. Tomorrow, then.”Anita winked and walked out of the office, hips writhing in her tight dress. She paused to blow a kiss at him when she reached the door.Jide buried his head in his hands the moment the door closed behind her.
What had he gotten himself into? Despite the fact that he knew it was foolhardy to get intimate with Anita Bankole, he had still fallen for the temptation and done just what he had decided not to.His face grew warm as he remembered how she had led him protesting to a room of the guesthouse the evening before. He had limited his intake of alcohol in order to avoid weakening his will, but despite the precaution, when Anita had entered the bathroom and emerged as naked as the day she was born, it had only taken seconds for him to lose control of the very will he had been guarding.

Jide pressed his hands against his eyes ashis mind filled with scenes of all the thingsshe had let him do and the things he had let her do in turn. Things he had not experienced with his wife for months.
It had been frantic and wild and immediatelyhe had rolled off her, spent, he had felt remorse. Remorse so deep, it almost brought tears to his eyes.

There had been nothing beautiful or right about what he and Anita had done and he had quickly made excuses and left the guesthouse. He was ashamed to be the kind of man who could sleep with a woman one moment and then feel detached because he had gotten what he wanted. Jide knew had never been that type of person and hisreaction shocked him to his marrow. And seeing Anita had only brought the feeling closer to home; he suspected it was edging towards disgust. Her kiss had barely moved him.And yet, Jide had to be careful not to let Anita notice his detachment from her.

She would not react nicely to the idea of being a momentary fling. Although she had claimed she had no qualms with his marital status, he knew she wanted more than just a one-night stand. With her hands pulling the strings of office politics and social relevance, he would be stupid to let her know his true feelings. But Jide Babalola was also aware of his worse sin. While he worried over what Anita Bankole could do to him, he had not forgotten the important fact that he had finally bitten into the forbidden apple and cheated on his wife, betraying her trust. He remembered his panic when he arrived home after his liaison with Anita. He had felt like his betrayal was emblazoned on his forehead, but was relieved when Patricia had not behaved out of the ordinary, offering him food and ignoring him the rest of the night. In bed, before Jide finally drifted off to a troubled sleep, his heart was set to race mode again when a text message from Anita made his phone buzz loudly, causing his half-asleep wife to stir from her usual spot beside him. That was the best s-x ever, Jide! I don’t think I will ever get enough.
KIZZEZ ANITAPanicked, he had immediately deleted the message and for the first time in all the time he had been married, changed the lock code on his phone to something his wife did not know.Jide Babalola was finally fully immersed in the waters of adultery.

He knew if he was not careful, his marriage and career could drown.
