Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 3

“Baba fire was right. He told me this…” mom soliloquized and I interrupted her.

” who is baba fire and what did he tell you? Are you going to die mom? Will those evil men kill..yo..? ” I queried fearfully.

“Zion they can’t kill me” she said “now come here” she drew me close to herself, held my hands, prayed for me and asked me to go back to bed and sleep. I went back to bed but she sat back on the couch watching me and shaking her laps meditatively as she always did whenever she’s deep in thoughts. I knew she was ruminating over my dream, trying to find it’s meaning.

I turned from one side of the bed to the other as sleep was not forthcoming and mother too had refused to join me in bed. I stole a look at her with the corner of my eyes and saw her talking in whispers to herself with her head bow and her two palms on her chin.

She looked beautiful and I found my self gushing over her,” I love my mom. I want to be like her when I grow up” I whispered to myself and began to laugh silently and in no time I dozed off.

“Wake up for devotion” I heard her voice followed by a soft tap on my back. I rubbed my my eyes gently with the back of my hands and wished I could sleep more. Sleep is always sweet at this early hours of the morning but mom have made it a law that devotion must be by 5am every morning.

I sluggishly climbed down the bed to the couch with my eyes still very heavy with sleep and then my mom made the most announced statement.”Lead us in worship songs” she said looking at me with all seriousness. I knew it was her usual way of driving sleep away from my eyes.

I looked at her grudgingly and she looked away and began to clap her hands waiting for me to raise a song. The annoyance in my heart alone had driven the sleep away so I began to murmur a song and then with time the melody of good songs began to have its effect on me and I began to sing different songs and nodded my head in enjoyment.

I was already connected in the spirit and was about raising one of my favorite Sinach songs when mom interrupted me with a loud,”In Jesus name we worship”

“Amen” I responded and brought down my hands which I had lifted up.

She raised few prayer points which we prayed vigorously after which she opened the daily guide and called out a Bible passage for me to read.

This was a daily routine in our house and mom made sure I contributed my own part which was reading the Bible passage and then explaining what I had read and what I learnt after which she will also make her own contribution, then read the daily guide’s commentaries.

After our devotion that morning,f by morning greetings, my mom cleared her throats and said,”Zion” she called me softly and I answered “yes mom”. Waiting for my morning instructions. ” I want to tell you a story ” she said and waited for my response.

“Yippie!!! I jumped back to the couch close to her in order to digest the story. I loved stories but It was unusual of mom telling stories in the morning when we ought to be rushing out to do the morning chores and then prepare myself for school and her for shop.

But it didn’t matter, I want to hear the story so I can also share with my classmates when I get to school. I sat there looking into mom’s eyes but she wasn’t as happy as she used to be when she tells me story. ” well, maybe it’s a tragic story ” I thought and just then she began to speak.

“When you were barely one month in the womb, I met a prophet who is popularly called Baba fire…” She said and swallowed hard.

“I was stranded and had no place to stay,I had lost my mother and couldn’t locate any one from my lineage. And while I was wandering around, I met this Baba” she said and stole a look at me before she began again to narrate the story.

” He wasn’t really an old man but people called him Baba fire because of the nature of his spiritual exploits. He was a prophet and his words when he preached emits fire. Sinners dreaded him and demons were always on the run when ever he goes on his knees… ”
