âYou can do thisâ Deanna said to herself trying to calm her nerves as she stood before Damonâs door. She took in a de-ep breath and started practicing a speech on how she would introduce herself when Damon opened the door.
âGood evening.. Am Bonnieâ she shook her head âThat sounds lameâ
She cleared her throat and straightened up âHi am Bonnie and am your new maidâ she stuck out her ton-gue âThatâs dumbâ
âGoodâŠ.â
The door opened interrupting Deanna and she froze at the sight of Damon. He studied her from head to toe and his gaze fell on the glas-s of milk that was sitting on the tray Deanna was carrying. He took the milk without saying a word then entered his room and slammed the door shut at her face.
Deannaâs jaws dropped âWhat the-?â she huffed loudly âMy first day at work is pretty badâ
Deanna sighed but didnât move from where she stood. The door opened again and Damon appeared at the door way with the glas-s cu-p he had taken earlier, empty. He replaced the glas-s cu-p on the tray and walked into his room then shut the door again at her face.
âRudeâ Deanna cussed and walked out.
Deanna walked into the kitchen and met Jessica, one of the maids doing the dishes.
âLemme guessâ Jessica said when Deanna walked into the kitchen looking gloomy
âYou wonât believe itâ Deanna said and kept the glas-s cu-p in the sink
âDamon was arrogant right?â
âHeâs more than arrogantâ Deanna huffed loudly âI canât believe Iâll be working as his personal maidâ
âCheer up Bonnie.. Damon is arrogant and thatâs usualâ Jessica said âYouâll get used to itâ
Deanna sighed and started arranging the wash plates in the drain board.
âThe first lady wonât be plea-sed if she sees you in the kitchenâ
âWhy?â
âCause you werenât as-signed here. Every maid has a duty theyâre as-signed to and you arenât allowed to interfere with a duty that you werenât as-signed toâ Jessica explained
âBut Damon doesnât nee-d meâ
âYou have to stay close to his room in case he nee-ds youâ
Deanna sighed and st©pped arranging the plates âAm not sure i can do thisâ
âI know itâs really stressful but beggars arenât choosersâ
Deanna shrugged âMaybe.. But I hope on being a chooser somedayâ
âWe all hope for that.. Now run along to your masterâs chamberâ
Deanna laughed âI hope I donât die while serving my masterâ
âYou wonâtâ Jessica grinned wi-dely and Deanna walked out.
Deanna took in a de-ep breath and knocked on Damonâs door. Damon opened the door and stared at her quizzically. Waiting for her to spill whatever trash she had to spill.
âOh.. Actually.. Am Bonnieâ
Damon raised his brows in an I-donât-even-care way.
âAm your new personal maidâ she went on and f0rç£d a smile with white, sparkling teeth.
Damon nodded then walked inside and slammed the door shut.
âOh! LORD! Help meâ Deanna prayed with her hands up in the air. The door opened immediately and only Damonâs hand appeared at the door way. He gr@bbÂŁd Deannaâs hand and dragged her in.
âThank you for finally letting meâŠ.â Deanna trailed off as she admired the beauty of his room âYour room is âwowâ â
âWere you employed to admire my room?â
âNoâ Deanna replied and straightened up
âCan I ask you a favour?â Damon asked and Deannaâs heart skipped a beat. What could Damon want from her?
âGo onâ she managed to say, but her heart was actually screaming âNO!!!â
âHave a sitâ Damon said
Deanna stared at the sofas in the room but couldnât make up her mind to sit on any.
âWhat if I get it stained?â she asked
âThen youâll wash itâ Damon replied and said âSit downâ. This time it was more like a command than an offer. Deanna nodded obe-diently and sat on one of the sofas. Damon walked to the sofa opposite hers and sat down, facing her.
âpromise youâll grant my requestâ Damon demanded
âI canât promise thatâ
Damon frowned âI want you to resign from your jobâ
âIs that your request?â
âyesâ
âbut why? I just started at the few hours agoâ
âWhatâs your name again?â
âBonnieâ
Damon nodded âBonnie, I donât want a nanny, am too old for thatâ
âI wasnât employed as your nanny. Am too young for thatâ
Damon frowned âHow much are you being paid? Iâll double your payâ
âNoâ
âThen Iâll triple itâ
âStill noâ
âThen Iâll pay you seven times your pay for your whole life timeâ
âI donât want to resignâ Deanna stated
âBut I donât want you to work for meâ
âThen tell the First Lady, cause I donât want to work for you eitherâ
âListen! Iâm really really rude and you canât handle itâ
âBut I can manageâ
âLet me tell you something if you insist on working as my maidâ Damon adjusted on his seat âAm your boss and I have the chance of being nice or super rude, your attitude determines thatâ he went on without giving her a chance to reply âBut most times, am super super rude and I plan on sÂŁnding you away with thatâ
âI can manageâ Deanna stated when he was done. Though she knew she was lying. She couldnât manage.
Damon shrugged and rested back on the sofa âGet me a cu-p of coffeeâ
Deanna nodded and hurried out. She returned almost immediately with a cu-p of coffee and a saucer and placed it on the coffee table.
âBlack or white?â Damon asked
âBlack coffeeâ Deanna replied
Damon rolled his eyes âDidnât anyone tell you that am obsessed with sugar? How do you expect me to drink black coffee?â
âAm so sorryâ Deanna apologized and hurried out with the cu-p of coffee. She returned shortly with another cu-p of coffee.
âWhite coffeeâ Deanna said and placed the saucer on the coffee table
âWhy would I drink coffee when itâs late? You want me to lose sleep?â Damon hurled
âBut youâŠ.â
âBut you donât know you jobâ Damon cut in
âAm sorryâ Deanna apologized and bowed her head âWhat do I get you then?â
âJust get me teaâ
Deanna carried the coffee and walked out of the room. She returned almost immediately with a cu-p of tea. Damonâs eyes were fixed on a newspaper when she returned though he wasnât re-ading it.
âTeaâ Deanna said and placed the cu-p of tea on the coffee table.
Damon dropped the newspaper and took the cu-p of tea. He took a dainty sip and spat out.
âWhat is this?â
âTeaâ
âThereâs too much sugar in itâ Damon yelled âIâve got worms young lady so I donât take sugar.. At allâ
âBut youâŠ.â
âBut you donât know your jobâ Damon cut in
Deanna sighed and took the cu-p of tea âIâll make another oneâ she said and walked out. Immediately Deanna slammed the door shut behind her, Damon bur-st into an outrageous laughter.
Deanna hurriedly drank the tea and made another cu-p of tea for Damon. This time, sugar free.
She rushed into Damonâs room and froze on seeing him standing in front of a full length mirror. He tied only a short towel around his w@!st and his che-st was ba-re, while he dried his hair with another towel. Immediately she barged into the room, Damon covered his ba-re che-st with the towel he was using to dry his hair.
âWhy did you barge in? Youâve got no manners at allâ Damon yelled
âAm sorry. I had no idea you⊠Were⊠I mean⊠JustâŠ.â
âJust shut up Bonnie!â
âI didnât mean to⊠I was bringing you the teaâ
âAnd you couldnât knockâ
Deanna shifted her gaze to her feet and muttered âAm sorryâ
âJust get out!â
Deanna nodded and she didnât notice the tears that slid down her cheeks as she walked out. Immediately Deanna was out, Damon threw himself on a sofa and bur-st into laughter.
âSheâll definitely get frustratedâ Damon laughed âLetâs see if she can manageâ
TWO HOURS LATER
Deanna gazed out the window as the driver drove her home. Her first day at work was one she would never forget. Damon had given her the worse stress in her life and all she wanted to do was resign. But she really nee-ded the money.
She had been too busy that she didnât even get the chance to see Stefan. Onikka was right when she said âyouâll be so busy that you ba-rely know who comes in or who goes outâ
The car st©pped a few distance from the Bruceâs ap@rtment and Deanna got down, She didnât want anyone to know where she lived. Deanna watched the car drive into the night then she took off her wig and walked to the house. She tried the door knob and the front door opened. Deanna walked into the living room and slammed the door shut. It was alre-ady after nine when she got home and the candles were still on. She headed for Moiraâs room and that was when she inhaled the smell of burning incense.
âAunt Vickie?!â Deanna called, walking into Moiraâs room. Vickie was sitting on a chair beside Moiraâs be-d. Her head was ducked in her palms and she was sobbing quietly.
âAunt Vickie?!â Deanna called walking close to Vickie
âThank God youâre home Deannaâ Vickie said, looking up for the first time âIâve been really scaredâ
Deanna glanced at Moira and was shocked at what she saw. Moira was no longer like a slee-ping human. She had gotten more waxy, her face was grey and her head was hairless, withl-ips shriveled back from grinning teeth.
âWhat happened to her?â Deanna asked
âI c@mÂŁ in this morning and found her this wayâ Vickie replied âSheâs getting worse Deannaâ
Deanna sighed and asked âDid you call the priest?â
âNo. Meredith called and exorcist and he said itâs a torment from an evil spirit and Moira might not survive itâ
âThen why didnât he make the evil spirit leave?â
âThe exorcist said the power is too strong and it canât just be ordered outâ
âThen what do we do now? Does that mean Moira is going to die?â
âNoâ Vickie shook her head sniffing âHe promised to return with someone who would helpâ
Tears trickled down Deannaâs cheeks as she knelt beside Moiraâs be-d âI wonder how she c@mÂŁ in contact with an evil spiritâ
âThe exorcist suspects she took in something from an evil spirit and the evil spirit has control over her from her systemâ
âIf thatâs the case then the evil spirit was hereâ Deanna stated âHow are we sure it wonât come again for any of usâ
âThe exorcist thought as muchâ Vickie said âHe gave us some incense to burn to keep off the evil spiritâ
Deanna noticed the incense that was burning in a plate on the table. Then she un-derstood why the house had the smell of burning incense when she first walked in.
âThere are more incense burning in every room in the house. The exorcist said we have to be very carefulâ Vickie added
âI donât like the sound of thisâ Deanna said to herself. She kept Vickie company for a while before going to her room to rest. Two of the candles in her room had gone out and the last one was threatening to go out too.
Deanna searched the drawers for a lighter and when she found one, she lighted the two candles that had gone out and rekindled the third one.
Deanna took off her jacket and shut her window, she was scared of the thought of the evil spirit returning for any of them. Deanna had a quic-k shower and jumped into the be-d in her pajamas. She said her night prayers and hid un-der the sheets as she drifted into her dream land.
