I’ll Reach For You

Are you sure?
“Wow, Skylar don’t you sleep at night?” Taylor comes and sit down in front of me at the café.

“HA-HA. Very funny. Hunter has been waking up so early for two weeks now, and she pokes me in the side every goddamn morning.” Taylor laughs and I yawn. I am so tired, I swear if she doesn’t stop waking me, she has to sleep in her own damn bed.

“Well, it’s good you get your ass out of the bed, you sleep all day,” She mocks, and I give her the death glare.

“Can I ask you something?” Ty asks. I nod slowly a little scared about what she wants to ask.

“How long?”

“How long what?” I ask confused.

“How long have you been with Hunter?” I didn’t expect that.

“Um, to be honest, I told her that I was in love with her when we were at the party.”

“Are you kidding me?” She burst out, causing the older couple on the other table to look at us. I roll my eyes.

“Is that why you two were standing far away from the car?” I nod.

“Yeah.” I answer and tell her about what happened, with Brook and Hunter.

“Wow, that is quite a love story.” I roll my eyes with a smile.

“How long have you been in love with her?” God she asks many questions.

“A while, I think. It took some time before I realized it.” Ty chuckles. She leans over the table to come closer to me.

“Have you done it?” She asks.

“Done it? NO!” I yell, making the old couple look at us again.

“Jesus, Taylor.”

“Sorry.” She looks embarrassed.

“I-I haven’t even kissed her yet.” I confess.

“What?” She asks, surprised. That scares me a little. I sigh.

“You know, Hunter. She is a little scared when it comes to intimate. The thing that frightens me the most is that she thinks she doesn’t deserve me.” Ty looks like she understands.

“When I tell her I love her, it’s like she doesn’t believe me. She does not think anyone can love her, and it hurts to look at her when I say it.” I can feel the lump in my throat and the tears trying to come out of my eyes. Ty reaches over to take my hand and I look down at them.

“What ever happened to Hunter before she came to you, most have been hell, since she can’t even love herself.” I look back up to Ty. I have never even thought about that.

“What happened to her is still hunting her, Skylar. I don’t know, but if you find out what is making her feel like that, she will maybe come around. Just ask her and see.” Ty is right, there is something bothering her, and it started on the first day at the beach when we were at grandma. That was the first time I had seen her so angry with herself. It was scary and painful to listen to her.

“You love her, right?” I nod

“Of course I do.”

“And she loves you?”

“Yes, but she hasn’t said it.” I tell her. Ty looks confused, but shake it off.

“Okay. That means she is afraid of losing you. Skylar you are the only one that really knows her. If she loses you, she will lose the only thing that is good for her. And I believe she knows that, you are the only good thing she has. She is terrified of losing you, Skylar. That is why she is afraid to tell you about her past or disappoint you, because she can’t lose you. Skylar, you are the only one keeping her from falling apart.”

“I would never leave her.” I can feel a tear go down my cheek. Hunti is everything to me, the one that keeps me sane.

“Show her; really show her, even if it may break a limit.” She snaps her finger.

“Kiss her.” My eyes widen and my heart wants to come out of my chest.

“What?”

“Hunter won’t do it, she is scared. She wants you to do it, even though she is telling you not to. Force her. Sometimes we have to do things we are afraid of to get forward. That is exactly what she needs to do. She wants to kiss you, Skylar. There is no doubt, but the fear in her is tying her down.” I can’t but help to smile to Taylor’s words. When did she become such a smart-ass? But what if I do it, and she will shut me out again. I don’t want that.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, my cousin dated this guy and he was kind of like Hunter. She talked to me about it and I tried to help her. She worked really hard, she waited and sometimes she had to push.” She tells me.

“What happened to them?”

“They just got married.” We both laugh. Ty really knows how to make me feel better, I am so glad I called her to meet me. I look out the window and the sun is about to go down.

“Thank you, Ty.” She smiles and pat my hand.

“Now go home and get her.”
