I exposed everything to the police and even the hideout of Spaco since he chose to be a betrayer to his own friends and they promised to put an end to everything.

“Please you really have to, my sister has suffered enough and am tired of all this, Duke said.

“Sure we will, our colleagues are seriously pursuing the guys and we will surely get them, the police said.

“But Desmond told his guys to go get Spaco, they shouldn’t be back that soon, I said.

“Excuse me, don’t forget you’ve been sleeping for 5 days, Duke said and I blinked my eyes.

“Oh sorry I thought it happened yesterday, I said and they smiled.

“Okay officer please keep us current with what is going on because I don’t want the guys to come after her, Chike said.

“Don’t worry nothing will happen, they had a boss and now he’s dead his boys will have to go find another boss, she won’t be their business anymore, the officer said.

“Still I need my sister safety, why should humans like that be walking freely causing havoc? Duke asked.

“My brother, truth is the big men are not helping matters at all. We are trying to curtail and they are extending it making them rich and giving them arms. Okay look at someone like Desmond na, even if you arrest him they will bail him out for their own gain but its good he has finally met his end, the officer replied.

“I’m not too happy, I wanted that guy to suffer slowly and have a painful death, that was too simple and easy for him, Duke said and Chike said.

“Keeping Desmond alive in your custody in the name of making him suffer will cause you more trouble. I’m not happy he died in Joan hands but then, its all for our peace of mind and that is what matters, its not until you see them beg and suffer, Chike said.

“Do you really think Desmond will beg you for mercy? I asked Duke.

“Okay we’ll be going now but don’t worry too much if you’ll be punished or something, it was clearly self defense and we understand, the officer said.

“Thank you officer, thank you, I said and they tapped Chike shoulder who followed them out leaving me with Duke and he smiled at me.

“Patience is so so worried but her baby is not feeling too well for her to come here, Duke said..

“What! What happened to her? I asked.

“Calm down they are okay now, in fact let me call her now because she has been waiting for you to wake up, Duke said and called Patience………

Series of tests was done on my both arms and it got me relieved I can still use it though it have to be properly healed first. I can’t believe those two wanted me to lose my both arms, what then will I use for my business? God forbid! If anything had happened to my arms that would have been my death because I won’t bear living an idle life when all I’ve ever done is business and hustling.

2 days later my sisters visited me in the hospital and I got angry with them for bringing their suckling babies along when they shouldn’t have bothered.

“If we were the ones here won’t you do the same sister? Sonia asked.

“Tell her, besides our babies are big girls now, Patience said and I laughed.

“My babies that are not up to 3 months are big girls ba? Please don’t try it again, we were talking on phone and that was enough, I said.

“Don’t worry na we won’t bother about you again, Sonia said with a frown and I smiled.

“Where’s Patrick? I asked.

“He’s having an exam today, they replied..

“Yea he told me when he called yesterday, thank you all so much, I said.

“Sister for what? Patience asked.

“for everything. When I saw dad, I don’t know if I was about to Die or something but I was in a strange place and I saw dad. He was looking so young and healthy and he pointed at a direction for me shouting on me to go back. I forgot to tell him thank you, I guess I owe him that for reconciling us together before he passed away, that was a best thing he ever did for me, I replied and Patience cleaned her tears.

“I miss him so much, she said and hugged me and Duke bowed his head.

“You have not forgiven him yet? Sonia asked Duke.

“I already did, he replied and Sandra call came on his phone.

“I think my love has arrived I’ll go pick her up, Duke said and I smiled as he left the room.

“Good to see you sister, and eh am so proud of you. Just imagine you pulled down 2 lions and when Duke told me my husband shouted its a lie, Sonia said and I smiled.

“God did it not me, who am I to do that anyway? Where did I learn how to shoot a gun sef? I asked them.

“Are you sure about that? You’re brave Joan and in that situation your eyes were red seeing death staring at you anything can happen, you can do the unusual thing and I am happy you stood up to it. At first when you told me you were vengeance and disappeared after meeting Desmond I was so worried knowing you’ll do something rash that may end you up in trouble. I am happy it went well though it risked your life, Chike came in.

“Seriously our family especially Joan has gone through a lot and I think its time for us to be happy and walk free without fear, because if you ask me i am tired of it already. I see myself always looking back when walking on the street and its disturbing, Sonia said.

“I’m sorry dear its my fault, am sure if I didn’t want to revenge or investigate Desmond this wouldn’t have happened, I said.

“Nah sister you did what anybody would have done so forget about it thank God its over sef though he should have been castrated first, Sonia said with a frown and I smiled. Despite I was trying to get myself back, being surrounded with my family and hearing their voices made me strong,

“But this Desmond is a devil o maybe that’s why his name starts from D. Why must it be the time my sister has found a better man and finally given herself to love he will bring in his witchcraft huh? Patience asked.

“Wait o point of correction my baby name is Deborah and it starts from D also so take that back, Sonia said and Chike couldn’t stop laughing.

“Ehh I take that back, but that dude is a devil, how can he? He does not want to see Joan happy at all, boom he wants to separate this beautiful union for what na? Patience asked.

“God forbid! Tah the devil is a liar he cannot succeed, and he failed oh hallelujah! Sonia shouted as if she wanted praying and we burst out laughing at how funny she looked. Immediately Sandra rushed in and screamed hugging me,

“Oh my God sis no matter what happens you can’t die now, no way! Sandra said.

“Amen my love, thanks for coming down, I said to her.

“Don’t mention sis, I should have been here when I heard the news but I couldn’t leave where I was without finishing the job. You’re responding to treatment right? Sandra asked slowly touching my hands.

“Seeing your beautiful face I think I’m healed already, I replied and she awwnned smiling at Duke,

“Did you hear that? Your sister is more romantic than you are you have to learn from her, she said to Duke.

“You wish, Duke replied laughing…………….

I got discharged after a week because Chike insisted I won’t leave the hospital until he is sure my both arms are out of danger. Though not properly healed, I can be going for checkup from time to time and I could manage the situation. I finally got home and had lots of visitors who trooped in to see me, honestly I never knew i was that loved, i was so surprised. I was so humbled when Chike family came to visit me, especially his mom, she couldn’t stop telling me how she prayed every night that I come back safe and sound and I was so touched.

“Thank you mama, now I see what brought me out of that place, I told her.

“My daughter, I do tell God that any good person that comes my way and my heart accepts, he can’t let anything bad happen to him or her because of me. So when I heard you were kidnapped, I reminded him o and that he must keep this covenant between us and bring you back safe, she said and I felt like crying.

“Thank you mama, if my mother were to be alive am sure she would have been praying for me, but am so happy to know a mother was praying on my behalf thank you, I said.

“Stop it Joan, I am also your mother. You became my daughter when Chike introduced you to me so stop crying, She said and placed my head on her chest. That was the best day of my life hearing a woman called me her daughter and placed my head on her chest just like how my mother would have done. I never experienced any of that, I never knew how it felt until that day and I couldn’t stop myself from being emotional……..

A week later I couldn’t sleep, I was thinking about the guys just after Spaco and the guys were arrested by the police despite all the running around and hidings. I took the small phone I bought months ago when I traveled and dialed the number and it rang. After 3 rings no one picked up and I sadly tried for the last time,

“You never sleep? The leader voice came on phone.

“How are you? I asked him.

“Can we be fine after what happened? He asked back.

“I’m so sorry, I feel so guilty now, I replied.

“Its okay so why did you call? You want to arrest us? He asked.

“I will never do that and thanks for helping me out there, I really appreciate, I replied.

“Did you really killed Desmond? See e still dey me like dream Dee don kpai! Everywhere just quiet, people dey wonder how e take happen. In case you don’t know guys dey fear you, they say you fit get something for your body, The guy said and I heaved.

“I don’t know what I have but all I know is I am vengeance. But please send me your account number, I just want to do something for you else I won’t be in peace, I said.

“No bother jare e no mean anything, we been just wan help you, he said.

“Can I ask you something? I asked.

“Ask o you dey free, he replied.

“How many guys died? I asked and he heaved.

“Canek and Manto, we been lost Manto for bush sha, he replied.

“I’m sorry, I whispered very pained.

“Its okay sha, na one by one we dey go, everybody go still kpai, he said.

“Please let me have your account number, its just to say thank you I am begging you, I said.

“Okay o no wahala bye bye, he said and dropped the call before I could say anything else……….

3 months later Joan was

healed and kicking well, in fact I resumed my business without wasting time and Chike was already making plans to meet my family for our wedding. I told him I wanted something simple, just our family, my business partners and his friends or colleague that will be all and he laughed.

“Why is it funny? I asked.

“Love like how many people are you expecting from that circle you counted? He asked.

“Approximately 30, I replied and he nodded smiling.

“Alright fine anything for you, so it will be us, our family members and our friends and business partners right?, he asked.

“Exactly, I don’t need crowd please after all am not a young girl for all that bustles, I said and he looked at me.

“Was there a certain age designated for marriage or to be happy? He asked and I shook my head.

“I didn’t mean it that way, its just that I don’t feel the way I used to about weddings when I was in my early 30s you know, but am happy okay that’s why I want it simple, I replied…..

A month later, the traditional wedding I thought will be indoor turned out to be something canopies had to be hired,

“My God! Where are they from? I asked in shock seeing the people that attended.

“I thought you counted the circles of people you wanted na, “so baby this is what you asked for” she replied singing back Rihanna song to me. I watched the wedding as if it wasn’t mine because the people that turned up for it weakened me but surprisingly preparations were already put in place and everyone was very comfortable. We went over to the registry because I didn’t want the church wedding, and this time around it was authentic and I was officially Joan Chike just when I thought all hope was lost of me settling down or living In a man house as his wife.

The day i was to leave to my husband house, my siblings cried as if it was my funeral and I got so confused. They stay with their husbands only that they do come home to visit from time to time, but why are they behaving as if Chike stole me away or like I was leaving the state despite I’ll still be around.

“Take care of my sister bro, Duke told Chike.

“You have my word, Chike told him and they shook hands together while my sisters hugged me tight one last time.

“Good bye sister, shey I can still be coming to the house to eat that pounded yam because its very important, Patrick said and I laughed hugging him.

“You all are always welcome and I’ll be visiting also probably on weekends so we can gather together and talk as a family. Nothing has changed please, I am still your Joan, I said touching Patrick.

“Papa will be so happy right now, Sandra said smiling at us……..

Life was not rosy nor easy at first for me, I was flawed and made mistakes that cost me so much pains, but what matters is I smiled at the end. I got a set of twins just when we were almost a year as a couple, and my darling Sandra was already pregnant for Duke…… They got married 2 months later after our wedding and we lived happily ever after.
