Episode 4

8 years later

The plane shook a bit as it landed softly on the runaway and taxied over it. It taxied for several meters before grinding to a stop. The hatch door is opened and passengers trooped out.

Flight attendants stood at each side of the door welcoming each passenger to Nigeria and asking how well their flight as gone, they are not to be deterred by most passengers who acted as if they are not there.

Dressed in a blue round necked t-shirt, on a jean and a shoe to match, Elvis walked towards the opened hatch of the plane, he murmured his reply to the greetings of the sexy plane attendant who wore a flirting smile. He walked down the hatch and walked towards the arriving lounge of the airport. After finalizing the formalities and picking his luggage, he made his way out of the airport.
He saw someone holding up his name afar off, he walked closer to discover its his sister. On sighting him, she ran with reckless abandon towards him, throwing her whole weight against him, she sqÂŁÂŁzed him tightly as her hands could afford.

“You know you are now a big girl, throwing yourself at a young bachelor like that” Elvis retorted faking a straight face.
“A young bachelor my foot and its not like your fiancée is anywhere around here” Jane replied.
“My fiancée’s not around, but you might have just broken the heart of a guy wanting to come up to you….” He replied earning him some few punches on his shoulder.
“Did he tell you that you are now beautiful, not that girl with chubby cheeks, who sulks at the slightest chance” he fired back as she went around to help him with some of his luggage.
“You know you are still mean as ever” she replied feigning a hurt-filled countenance.
“I miss you baby girl” he said now hugging and squeezing her.

“You are hurting me bully bro” she manage to say trying to wrench herself from his grasp.
They dragged themselves out of the airport dragging Elvis luggage after them. They entered the blue Camry Jane came with after dumping his luggage in the booth. Jane chattered all the way, filling him in of all the happenings that had taken place in his absence.
Elvis sat comfortably beside his driving sister; she had stopped chattering leaving him to his thoughts. After recuperating fully from the disaster of his former university, he had vowed to catch the culprit behind the bombing. The disaster claimed the life of more than 2000 students, leaving about 3000 students more injured. The school was closed down indefinitely by the vice chancellor but he’s oblivious of the current situation of the school. He felt responsibility for the death of all the students, he wished he had come to the test venue earlier to discover the bomb earlier or better still catch the bomber at it. If only he was seven minutes earlier.

After spending weeks at the hospital, unconscious for most part of it as he was told, he decided to become a detective. He travelled out of the country to study criminology, after his A’ level, he went ahead for his masters and PHD, now back, he’s confident he’ll catch the culprit, at least the investigative department of the Crime Investigating Organization (the secret organization he would be working with) will have some findings, he’ll just use his PHD knowledge to put it together and catch the culprit. It won’t take long; it should be done and dusted in a few weeks. He thought.

“What are you thinking about?” Jane asked bringing him out of his gorge of thoughts.
“Just wandering how much change has occurred within 8 years of leaving Nigeria” he said masking his true thoughts.
“Yea, a lot of things has changed but most noticeable my brother” she replied with a stern look.
“Of course I’m now a big brother” he replied shelving her true line of thought.
“Do you think I’m not observant enough to notice the changes in my brother after the incident at his school?” she replied eyes on the road.

His facial expression got darker.

“Now that you know, have the culprits been found?”
“There you go again with your culprit stuff, there are no culprit, the hall collapsed due to poor building materials and the construction company has been sued” She replied slamming her wrists on the steering.
“There was a bomb underneath the hall, it was fastened to a metal railing, I tried to pull it off but I couldn’t, I know what I saw” Elvis interjected
“There was no bomb anywhere, the police searched and searched for any evidence of bombs but found none”
”Can’t someone just believe me?” He whimpered, “Not even my blood sister”
”Believe you?” she said bringing the car to a halt beside the sidewalk along the road “What are we to believe, do you know what we passed through when you were unconscious, you kept on mumbling incoherent rubbish, you went all AWOL about bomb, explosions and all. We have all chosen to believe you at least to know what you mean by the bomb and bombings but the doctor made us think otherwise, he told us you suffered some kind of damage to your brain when you hit your head on the ground that might cause hallucinations. Now tell me, who would believe someone after hearing such”
He had known his sister to be a straightforward person, how had he not heard of this earlier. Now he knows the reason for the fits he suffered.
He opted to keep silent since no one will believe whatever he says, to them he’s a miniature of a mentally deranged person.
Since no reply is forthcoming, Jane swerved back on track and they continued the journey. But something is hitting hard on Elvis’s mind; he must bring the destructive element that truncated the life of thousands to justice.
