ADEMILADE
*
*
The saddest thing about betrayal is that it never comes from your enemies, it comes from those who are close to youâŠ
Life is not about who is real to your face , it is about who is real behind your back ..
*
*
The anger was hot in my gut, and all I wanted to do was cry and scream and let it all out because it was killing me inside. but can I do that? hell no, my girlfriend is right in the room and I donât want her getting all worried.
I clenched my fist tightly and began marching to the kitchen
Susanna and her âugly friendâmust pay for all of the pain they caused her!!
Entering the kitchen , I opened the pot on the gas and looked into it , it was empty âŠ.
I sighed in frustration, what will I do now?
I let my gaze wander around the kitchen and noticed the tins of beverages sitting in the cupboard.
Perfect! I am gonna make her tea
quickly , I reached for the electric kettle which was at the top of the cupboard, rinsed it out ,put a little water inside it and was about plugging it when I heard a loud piercing screamââObianuju!
I rushed out of the kitchen in an instant and dashed into the room where i found her curled up in bed , crying
âBaby!â I moved closer to her. âwhat is wrong?â
There was no response , she acted like she didnât hear me!!
Oh God! Please help me!
âObianuju! I softly called her name as I crouched beside her. âwhy are you crying?â
Still there was no response. She just sat there, turning her head from side to side as she cried âŠ
What is wrong with her?
âBaby! I exhaled deeply. âIs this still about Dave?â
She shook her head in slow motion
â then what is with the tears?âI asked calmly, brushing a wisp of hair away from her face
âMy mumâ. her voice came out in whispers
âWhat happened to her?â
âI donât knowâ
I stared at her , confused
âYou donât know what happened to her?â
I said I donât knowâ. She yelled and began kicking her legs around all wild and viciously
I became alarmed, Is she running crazy or what!!
âUju!âI put my hand on her shoulder and rubbed it slightly. âLook at me pleaseâ. I pleaded and when she did , I saw the hurt in her eyes âŠ
âMy⊠mummy!â She whimpered. âI have a feeling âŠthat .. she âŠis âŠ.not âŠ.okayâ. she struggled her words in between tears
âwhy did you say so?â
She snuffled . âMy sister called me just now and she was cryingâ
Her sister called her and she started crying, I still couldnât get her points!
âSo?â I searched through her gaze . âthat isnât enough reason for you to conclude thatâŠ.I stopped mid- sentence when I heard my phone ring..
I took it out of my pocket to check out the caller and noticed it was âŠ..Rinzy
My heart skipped a beat and a strange feeling
Surged through me .
âWho is that?â Obianuju asked
I received the call, ignoring her question
âGuy! Awfar?â I greeted first
âDemi! he called with a cracked voice. âIs my sister there with youâ
âYes!âI replied and glanced at Uju who was staring at me curiously
He snuffled. âI need a favour from you broâ
âOkay!â I said , urging him to continue
âCan you please bring Uju home tomorrow morningâ
âWhy?â I asked and held my breath waiting for his answer
âMy mum is deadâ.he dropped the bombshell and my heart literally stopped beating
âshe died of cancer this morningâ
Cancer! This is too bad!
âWhere are you?â I managed to ask
âHomeâ. he replied. âI travelled as soon as I got the news . We never wanted to tell Uju till we fixed the burial date but my little sister spilled âŠâŠ..he paused , breathing hard
âRinzy!â I called and immediately regretted it
âMy brother?â Obianuju asked, clinging unto my left hand . âwhat is he saying?â
I turned away as tears welled up in my eyes
âRinzy!â I called again. âYou alright?â
âYes! he snuffled. âI am just âŠâŠ.
âI understandâ. I cut in . âI will bring her home tomorrowâ
âThanks so much manâ
âIt is nothingâ. I waved it off . âand please donât âŠhe hung up on me before I could offer my condolences
A good thing he did as I donât even know what to say!!
âWhat did my brother say?â Obianuju repeated her question, but this time around with a cold voiceâ
I bit at my lips not knowing how to break the news to her!
She continued. âIt is about my mum right??â
âNoâ. I lied
â why then did he call you?âshe half yelled, her eyes boring into mine
âhe wants me to bring you homeâ.
âbring me home?â her eyes widened and her face turned a ghastly shade of white . âWhy Demi? why?âher voice was strained
i stared at her , contemplating whether I should tell her or not , I decided against it!
âAnswer me , why did he ask you to bring me home?â her trembling voice rang in my head ..
I sighed softly and sat on the bed
âShould I make tea for you?â I asked changing the topic , as I myself was also looking for a distraction!
she scoffed. âare you trying to avoid my question?â
âNoâ. I shook my head slowly . âI only asked if should make tea for youâ
âI am not hungryâ. She hissed loudly .
âOkay then , letâs sleepâ
With that, I laid on the bed and pulled her close in an embrace, making her lay her head on my bare chest
She clung tightly to me and began sobbing
âMy mum Is dead right?â
âYou will see her when you get homeâ. I simply answered
âReally?â there was a little smile in her voice and a feeling of guilt hit me in an instant
I am lying to her , I am f**king lying to her!
âyou lied because you were scaredâ. a tiny voice in my head whispers and yes , it was right
I am scared right now , scared of how she will reactâŠ
âBaby!â She interrupted my thoughts
âYes!â
âare you really going to follow me home?âshe raised her head and looked me in the face
âhum! hum!âI nodded
âAlright!âShe merely said and looked away. âGood nightâ.
âGood night babyâ.i bade and leaned in to kiss her forehead..
I switched off the light bulb and as if waiting for a signal , my tears came down pouring
That pretty woman dead, unbelievable!
I buried my head in her hair as i just couldnât stop crying and only then did i hear her soft sobs
She was crying too!
Did she figure it out? I wondered , listening to her cry till I drifted off to sleep!
*
The next morning
*
I opened my eyes slowly allowing them time to adjust to the blinding light coming in through the window, it was already morningâŠ
Stretching, I turned my body sideways to Obianuju but she was not beside me , she wasnât even in the room
Where the hell is she?
I sat up in a huff, my bleary eyes darting around the room.her pink back bag was sitting at a corner of the room, a white handbag on top
Like seriously! she has already packed her bags!
Lazily , I dragged myself up from the bed and ambled to the mirror stand
Staring at my reflection , My jaws dropped
Who is this boy I see. staring straight. back at me? why is my reflection someone I donât know? who is this red puffy eyes boy? It is
definitely not me!
âDemi!â a tiny voice suddenly called
quickly, I turned my head in the direction of the voice and saw Obianuju standing at the entrance the bathroom, naked ,with water dripping down her body..
So she was bathing!!
I forced a smile and moved closer to her
Good morning babeâ
âMorning!âI heard her mumbled response as she walked past me to the wardrobe. âGo and bath, we are already running lateâ
âLate! I glanced at the wall clock . âbut it is just 7;05 amâ
She scoffed and turned her head towards me
âSo what time do you want us to leave? 10:00pmâ
âNo! I justâŠâŠâŠ
âThen shut the f**k up and go and bathâ. she cut in,her voice filled with anger
Jeez! Is she angry with me? If yes , then I have to take the chill pills!
âAlright ma!â I drawled and went into the bathroom
Pulling off my clothes, I stepped into the bath tub , brushed my teeth and had a long bath, washing away all of yesterday stress!
When done , I reached for my towel , dried up my body and returned to the room just in time to see Obianuju zip up a short blue gown!!
âAre you really gonna wear this home?â
She nodded slowly, a far away look in her eyes
âReally?â I continued. âwonât your muâŠdad query youâ
âI donât careâ. she retorted, her eyes sparkling like fire
What has gotten into her?
heaving a sigh, I went over to the wardrobe, opened it and began searching for clothes
âI packed up a few clothes for youâ. she said softly
Pack clothes for me! why? Is she expecting me to sleep over at her home, impossible!!
âAlright!â I merely agreed as i didnât want to anger her spirit
I pulled out a sweatshirt , trouser and brief and hurriedly changed into it; then I wore a black sneakers, combed out my hair , picked up my car key along with my phone and faced her
âLet usâŠ.I trailed off, my gaze on her disheveled hair
âArenât you gonna take care of your hair?â
âNoâ. She bluntly replied
with that, she picked up her bags and walked out of the room.
Oh right!
I followed behind her till we got outside the house ; then I locked the doors and climbed down the short step to the carâŠ
Using the key, i opened the car door and slid into the driver seat
âSango right??â I asked obianuju who was seated beside me
âYes ⊠eem âŠ. noâ. She stuttered
âwhat exactly are you saying?â
She exhaled deeply. âThe bells Otaâ
I nodded slowly and began programming the GPS
âHave you found it?â she asked
âNopeâ. I answered popping the p. âwhat I am seeing here is ermâŠ.IyanaâŠâŠ
âIyesiâ. she completed and I nodded
âEhen now, the bells is after Iyana iyesiâ
âIyana iyesi!â I mumbled. âDo you live in a bush?â
âTaarh!â she gave me a playful punch. âIf you see where I live âŠ.henâŠyou will bow your head in admirationâ. She boasted
I chuckled lightly hearing the smile in her voice
âThen it seems the estate doesnât want to be found, if not âŠ. i stopped mid- sentence when the red dot blinked twice
âI found itâ
âThank goodness!âshe sighed in relief
Smiling , I buckled my seat belt and was about starting the car when my phone suddenly rang
I reached for it and saw the name âDadâ flashing on the screen
I received it , holding the phone to my right ear
âAdemilade Adeoyeâ. his baritone voice rang through . âIs this the way to âŠâŠ.
âDadâ. I cut in . âI have it in mind to call you today, I really really need your helpâ.
âMy help!â he repeated, âand what is that?â
âI want two ladies out of the schoolâ
âHan! Han! Adeâ. he retorted . âYou canât possibly expect me to destroy someoneâs future just because they offended youâ
âIt is not about me , it is about my girlfriendâ. I half yelled . âThose devils conspired against her , they wanted her gang-raped
âWhat!â he gasped audibly in shock
âyes dad . you really need to see to it that they are punishedâ. I begged
There was a pause and then he said
âSend me their full namesâ
Bingo! exactly what I wanted to here
âSure, I will do that as soon as possibleâ
âGood! so how is your girlfriend, I hope she is alright?â he changed the topic
âYesâ. I glanced at Obianuju who had a dazed expression on her face. âshe is very much alrightâ
He continued. âand you?ââ
âI am fineâ
âOkay son!I just called to check up on youâ
âThanks dadâ
âAnd donât forget to include their level and departmentâ
âI wonâtâ. I said and ended the phone call
âAnd what is the call all about?âObianuju fired at me
I sighed deeply, facing her
âCan we Please talk about it later?â
âNoâ. She shook her head. âI want to know the ladies who conspired against me
âbut baby you are ⊠I tried to say but she cut me off
Is it Susanna?â
I shot her a surprise look. how in the world does she know??
âOh! so it is Susannaâ. she answered herself . âso tell me , who is the second lady?â
I searched through her gaze and saw the tears burning her eyes
She was clearly in pain!
âWho is she?â she yelled
I let out a deep breathe I never knew I was holding
âyour roomieâ
She grew stiff and cold in an instant
âFaith! She muttered. âno!no! no! that is not possible, Faith is my sister and will never do itâ. She screamed, throwing her hands carelessly
Is she trying to hurt herself!!
âHey! Hey! Babeâ. I held her to me . âyou donât need all this, instead you should be grateful that nothing went badâ. I said trying to calm her down and it worked , she became a bit calm..
âFaith betrayed meâ. she whispered
âI knowâ. i brushed her cheeks lightly. âand I am gonna make sure she regret itâ
âby sending her out of school?â
I nodded slowly
She was quiet for a moment and then she shook her head
âPlease donâtâ. She pleaded. âI donât want anyone crying because of meâ
I scoffed silently, how can she be so naive!
She continued. â i want to be free , I want to live my life without guilt and worries , I just want to be happyâ
âIs that what you want?â I asked calmly
âYesâ. she nodded . âJudgement belongs to Godâ
Now she is going all religious!â
âAlright!âI agreed and with that , I started the car and drove out of the compound, down the busy road as I headed to her family home âŠ.
I will deal with the two b**ches in my own way!!!

OBIANUJU
*
*
â I love you Obianuju, always remember that!â
These were the words my mom said to me two days ago and it kept on ringing in my headâŠ
Yes! My mum loves me so she canât leave me alone right!
I laughed loudly, bouncing on the seat excitedly
âYou alright?â Demi asked
I shifted my gaze to him, meeting his for a split- second
âYes babyâ. I squealed and began nodding and singing along to the song on the car radio
????????????
I donât want to hear say
I donât want to hear you say you dey with another man
The wey your body rotate
I no like am if I see you with another manâŠâŠâŠ.I stopped when I heard Demiâs muffled laughter
âWhat!â I glared at him
âNothing babeâ. he smiled lightly. âI am just happy that you are happyâ.
I stared at him hard and long
There was something about his smile, it looked so blank, like he was forcing it!!
âYou sure you are alright?â
He glanced at me wearing the same strange smile
âYesâ
âNoâ. I shook my head vigorously, I wasnât convinced at all . â you still worried about Susanna and Faith?â
He chuckled softly. âI should be asking you thatâ
Asking me kwa! no ooo, they are the least of my problems!
I continued. âor is it about my mum?â
Instantly, his face grew pale and he clutched the brake tightly, staring straight ahead of himâŠ.
A strange feeling hit me , forcing my heart to pound
Is my mum really dead? no no, it canât be possible!
âWill I see her when I get home?â I asked , staring intently at him , I just wanted him to assure me that my mom is alrightâŠ.
he sighed softly. âYesâ
I nodded slowly and leaned back on the seat
My mum is alrightâ. I assured myself but deep down in my heart , I knew she was far from alright , that I was only deceiving myself âŠ.

Finally! after four hours drive , we arrived at the Junction by my house, The bells Junction and per my direction, Demi took a right turn and drove down the tarred road till he got to a brown duplex , my house
The gate was wide open so he drove through it into the compound parked out in front, right beside a red Camry ââ-My immediate elder brother, Obioraâs car
So he is around!
Opening the car door, I slid my leg out one by one , my gaze fixed on the handful of women standing on the balcony âŠ
A wave of self â doubt and fear hit me, making my heart beat erratically
Is my mum really dead?
âYou should go insideâ. Demi said in thin whispers
I nodded absentmindedly and walked slowly to the building .
Seeing me , the women started whispering among themselves
âAdaâwas the only word I could pick out from their hush whispers
âGood morning!â I greeted , climbing up to the balcony
âMorning my pikinâ. a fat woman responded. âhow is school?â
âFine ma!â I replied
âhmmmm!âShe sighed deeply. âNdo ehen , It is God that gives and also takes away!!
Ndo! why is she telling me sorry? oh! no!
Impulsively , I shoved the woman aside and rushed blindly into the sitting room
âMum! I screamed loudly. âI am home , please come outâ
There was no response , all I heard was the inaudible whispering of voices
I stood there on the spot ,my eyes rolling to the back of my head , it was like I was in a tranceâŠ
Is this really happening!
âMummyâ. I screamed again , scratching and tearing my hair out
I must be going crazy!!
Just then , I felt a hand wrapped around me and I wriggled my body as I tried to struggle out of the hold but the hand held me firmly, pulling me closer
âLeave me aloneâ. I screamed
âNo Uju, I wonâtâ. a familiar voice said and I calmed down instantlyâââObiora
I turned around , facing him
âObi!â I called softly, staring into his face
his eyes was puffy, his nose red and there was tears in his face
âUju!â he smiled lightly. âhow are you?â
I shook my head. âI am not fine , I want to see my mummyâ
He sighed deeply . âMum is in a better placeâ
âA better place?âI feigned ignorance
I was just hoping that all of this should be a dream
âshe is in theâŠ.he stopped mid- sentence , his gaze fixed behind me
âAdemiladeâ. he muttered
quickly, I turned around and saw Demi leaning against a Sofa, his left hand tucked in his pocket as he silently watched us
âObiora!â he smiled lightly
So they know each otherâŠAmazing!
I shifted my attention back to my brother who was still staring at Demi
âWhere is mum?â I repeated, but this time around with a harsh voice
He looked at me and swallowed hard
âMum is Deadâ.
My head literally exploded and a deep feeling
of anger and hatred surge through me
âWhere is Daddy?â I asked coldly
âThat man!â he hissed loudly . âhe is in his roomâ
With tears rolling down my eyes, I ran up the stairs to my Dadâs room
my mum is Dead, she is dead, she is really dead
I was still finding it hard to believe!
Entering my dadâs room, I found him seated on his bed , a fat lady beside him
Who is this orobo? I wondered
âDaddy!â I called softly as he looked in my direction
âUju! how are you?
âFine!â I replied flatly, my intent gaze fixed on the fat woman . âwho is she?â. I blurted out
he scoffed. âIs that the way to greet an elder?
who the hell is she?â I yelled , making him gasped audibly in surprise
âYou shouted at me? he mumbled but I heard him clearly
The woman chuckled softly. âNo cause for alarm , i am only here to sympathise with your dadâ
âOn his bedâ. I jeered
âShut upâ. My dad barked at me . âhow dare you say such ungodly thingsâ
Ungodly Kwa! see who is talking!
âHan Han!â the woman butted in . âYou donât need to shout at her , you know she just lost her motherâ
You b**ch! I subconsciously screamed at her
My Dad heaved a deep sigh and got off the bed, moving closer to me
âI am sorry for shouting , I am just too pained by your motherâs deathâ
âWhat killed her?â My voice sounded tired strained
âCancerâ. he replied , wiping the crocodile tears away from his eyes
Cancer! My mum had cancer! Is that why she looked pale! Is that why she was always tied scarfs ,so we wonât see her falling hair!
âThen why didnât you tell me?â
âIt wasnât my decisionâ. he sighed. âit was your mumâsâ
âMum!â I muttered
He continued. âDonât be mad at her, she just wanted you all to be happy and likewise meâ
âYou!â I repeated with disbelief written all over my face
âYes childâ. he nodded . âtell me whatever you need and I will get it for youâŠ.oh! I promised to get you a car right!!!
Like seriously! Is he trying to bribe me with a car?
âNo thanksâ. I politely declined. âI already got a carâ.
âA car! he shot me a confused look. âwho bought it for you?â
âMy boyfriendâ
âAre you talking about thatâŠthatâŠbrown skinned boy who came with you?â he pointed to the window, seething with anger
Oh right! he saw us through the window!!
âYes !â I answered and that was it, he flared up
âHow could you Uju! how could you accept a car from a boy! for crying out loud, he is only after your virginityâ
âI have already given him thatâ. I retorted bluntly , I was just too pained to care about what he thinks!
âYou foolâ. he thundered and raised his hands to slap me but I quickly dodged it ,
I laughed bitterly. âyou want to slap me , but why?â
He opened his mouth in surprise and faced the fat lady
âAngela!did you see what just happened?â
Angela! I heard a loud bang in my head. so she is the Angela!
âYou b**châ. I cursed at her. âhow dare you come into our home?â
The woman and my dad exchanged confused look
âDid I do anything wrong?â the woman asked
I simply ignored her and began walking to the door
âYou walking out on me?â My dad retorted, his voice coming out in whispers
I stopped in my step , facing him
âNoâ. I faked a smile. âbut the moment you bring in this âbimboâ to the family , forget about me!!
With that , I walked out of his room and dashed into the next room , my momâs room
Pushing the door opened, I walked in and found Chichi seated on the tiled floor , crying , a white paper in her hand
âChiChi!â I rushed to her ,holding her tightly âŠ
âUju! when âŠdid âŠ.you âŠ.arriveâ.she struggled her words in between tears
âNot quite longâ
She continued. âhave you seen that man?â
I pulled out of the hug to stare at her face
âThat man! he is your father , remember?â
âHe is a not my fatherâ. she retorted in a huff . âhe is just a man who pretends to be my fatherâ
I shook my head. âDonât say âŠâŠ..
âTake a look at this â. She cut me off and held the paper up for me to see
It was my mum medical report!
Sharperly , I snatched it out of her hand and skimmed through it
My mum had been battling cancer for 7 years and according to the report, she still have roughly two years more to live
âwhy then did she die now?â I said aloud
âThat is because daddy never gives her peace of mindâ. Chichi replied . âhe keeps on bringing that stupid Fat woman into the houseâ
My eyes grew wide in surprise. âDoes mum knows Angela?â I wanted to be sure
âBefore nko. She sniffed . âShe kept quiet and did nothing about it and see where it led her toâŠ..mortuary â. she broke down in tears
âMortuary!â I mumbled under my breathe and that was when the deep realisation hit me
I am never going to see my mom again
âMummmmmmy!â I shrieked in pain and began to cry!!

ADEMILADE
*
*
The sitting room was flooded with tears. loud wailing sound and quiet weepings filled the house and flowed like a river..
I just sat there on the sofa , a sick feeling stirring deep inside me
I wanted to leave this place as fast as possible as I was not used to staying long in peopleâs homes !
But I need to see my girlfriend first, I canât leave without bading her bye!!
Speaking of which! where is she sef? have she forgotten all about me ?or wait! is she still crying? D**n! I bet she wouldâŠ..
âDemiâ. a voice interrupted my thoughts
Slowly, I turned my head in the direction and saw Obiora standing at the entrance, a faint smile on his face
âI am sorry for leaving you all aloneâ. he apologised. âI had to see my friends offâ
âI understand! so how are you?â I changed topic
he moved closer and collapsed on the sofa
âI am just managing to be fineâ
I stared at the pretty boy in front of me and smiled
âIt has been three years right?â
âNope! he shook his head. âwe finished secondary school last four yearsâ
âOh! that is true!â
he smiled weakly . âSo tell me , how is Abujaâ
âWell! I shrugged lightly. âAbuja was fine the last time I visitedâ
âoh I see!so you are now an Ago iwoye boy..Hun!the one who is dating my sisterâ. he teased but I was quick to detect the sadness in his voice âŠ
he was obviously forcing the conversation!
âDonât push it , be free with meâ. I simply told him
He was quiet for a moment and then he sighed
â I am not happy Demi , I am not happy at all. I am only pretending to be.
âI know!â I said softly and he nodded, looking towards the women who were seated in a corner of the sitting room, whispering ; then he smirked
âCome with meâ
âwhat did you say?â I wanted to be sure I heard right
âI said come with meâ. he repeated and with that , he stood up in a huff and made for the door
Where is he going to now?
Hastily, I sprang up to my feet and followed behind him as he walked out of the house to the compound; then he stopped in front of a small bench , sitting on it
âSit!â he gestured , tapping the bench lightly which I did ,without saying a word
There was a short pause and then he asked
âThe garden is beautiful right?â his gaze was fixed on the garden in front of us
I nodded slowly
âMy mum set up the garden all by herself and looking at it now just reminds me of herâ. he said with a hint of tears in his voice âŠ
âOh! was the only thing I could say as I was lost of words, I wasnât used to emotional stuffs
He continued. âshe would pray for the family , cook for the family , in-fact she did everything for this family but what did she get in return? betrayal!
âBetrayal! I shot him a confused look. âWho betrayed her?â
âMy old man who is up in his room with another womanâ
I laughed inwardly as the whole thing seemed so funny!
âwait! wait! you mean your dad is in his room with another woman?â I wanted to be sure I heard right
âYes!â he nodded
âAnd you did nothing about it?â I retorted, staring at him in disbelief
He sighed softly. âwhat can I do about it?â
Ahhhh! Is he for real!..hmmm! I trust myself on this one, I would have burn down the whole house!
âNothing!â I simply answered as I didnât want to get involved in this family mess âŠ
Too bad my girlfriend is also a part of the family!
A black Camry suddenly drove into the compound and parked right beside the garden
âMy brotherâ. Obiora muttered
âIs it Arinze?â I asked
Right at that exact moment, Arinze and a dark young man stepped out of the car
âThat is my eldest brother, Uchennaâ. Obiora told me . âhe flew all the way from Canadaâ
Amazing!
âThat is your birth country right?â
So he remembers!
I nodded slowly, my eyes following the
young man as he marched towards the house with heavy stepsâŠ.
Jeez! with all this children, the man still have the gut to cheat,he must be an ingrate!!
âDemi!â I heard Rinzy call and I shifted my attention to him
He was walking towards us with a tired smile on his face .
âHaaaa! Rinzyâ. Obiora started. âWhy didnât you tell me Ujuâs boyfriend is Demi?â
I scoffed silently. what is this one saying?
âYou know each other?â Arinze asked ,looking at me and then at him
âYes now, we used to best friends back in secondary schoolâ. Obiora replied
Best friends! we were more like academic rivals!
âReally? Rinzy widened his eyes in surprise. âso you schooled at The International school Abuja?â
âYup! I nodded and his face brightened up a little bit
âThanks!â
âIt is nothingâ.i waved it off . âI would have brought her over even if you didnât askâ
He smiled lightly and then faced Obiora
âIs the fat fool still inside the house?â
âYes!â
âThat b**ch â. he folded his fist tightly and started running towards to the house
âYou should go with himâ. I told Obiora
âNoâ. he shook his head . âI donât want toâ
âYou have to , you have to go defend your late momâ
âMum!âhe mumbled and broke down into tears
âHey! Hey! donât do thisâ. I held unto his shoulders as I tried to calm him . âYou have three younger ones and you need to be stay strong for themâ
âI knowâ. he sniffed. âI am trying to but I just canât stop myself from cryingâ
âIt is alrightâ. I pulled him into an embrace and patted his back lightly
âIt is gonna be alright!!!!â
âObi!â a tiny voice called
I pulled out of the hug and looked in the direction of the voice and saw a very beautiful skinny little girl , staring at us
Is this ChiChi? If yes , she is way more prettier than her sister !
âObi!âthe girl called again. âUchenna is calling youâ
Obi! Uchenna! unbelievable!
âwhere is he?â Obiora asked
âIn his roomâ
âOkay!â Obiora said and then faced me
âDo you want to come with me?â
âNoâ. I politely declined . âI will wait out hereâ
âAlrightâ.he nodded and with that , he stood up and dragged his feet as he walked to the house
I followed him with my gaze till he climbed the balcony then I shifted my attention to the little girl who was staring at me curiously
I smiled lightly. âFine girl! how areâŠ.::
âI am a boyâ. he cut in. âand my name is Chidiâ
My Jaws dropped , so this pretty girl is a boy!
hmmm! beauty sure runs in the family!
âWho are you?â he fired at me
I smirked , what a rude brat!
well! Since he wants to know my name, I have no other option but to tell him
âMy name is Dem.. no! My name is Brother Demiâ
âDemi!â he called excitedly, throwing the âbrotherâ away
Like seriously!this tiny boy!
I held his hands and drew him to me
âSee Chidi, i am a Yoruba man and in my culture, small children like you respect elderly people like meâ
he was quiet for a while and then he frowned
âIs this about the brother?â
I nodded slowly
I was expecting him to correct himself but he didnât , instead he scoffed and snapped at me
âdid your mum put brother in front of your name ni?â
âWhat!â I retorted somewhat in shock
This baby needs to be flogged
âDemi! he called again, as if daring me. âhmmm! so you are the Demi that my mummy use to pray forâ
âPray!â I repeated
âhum! hum! he nodded . âshe included your name in her prayers on âŠâŠhmmmmh! I canât remember the dateâ
Really! So Obianujuâs mum do pray for me!
âBut donât worry, when my mom comes back I will ask herâ. he added
I frozed on the spot , he still thinks his mom will come back!
He jumped up excitedly and continued
âMy dad told me she will come back after she wakes up from sleepâ
F**k!
My heart churned in pain and I sobbed inwardly not for myself , but for this little kid who doesnât even know what is going on!!!
Mothers are indeed priceless!
