COURTSHIP DISCUSSION (2)
The next day, we met in our pastor’s house.
After prayers and sharing of the word of God, I
decided to ask her about her meeting with sister
Faithfulness.
This was what she said…..
“I met sister Faithfulness in camp during my NYSC
program in the West. I recognized her immediately
as one of the leaders of the fellowship on campus.
We became not just friends but sisters. We did
things together, prayed together, attended fellowship
together. She was an inspiration to me. I became
afraid that they’ll post her far from me. So, one
week to the end of the camp, I set out to fast and
pray for God to redirect her posting to wherever I
will be posted to. I couldn’t just lose her. I prayed
seriously about it. I broke down in the camp
because of the fasting and was admitted in the
camp clinic. Thus, I was relieved of all the rigors
which gave me more opportunities to pray”.
I laughed at that last statement.
“Wooow, God allowed you to break down so that He
can have more time with you” I said with a joyful
laughter.
She continued….
“When it was time for us to collect our posting
letters, that night, I could not sleep. I spent it in
prayers. I wanted sister Faithfulness close to me. In
fact, sometimes, I do wonder why I was very
desperate about having her close to me.
Nevertheless, I prayed more. When we got our
letters, oh the joy that filled my heart when she
informed me about her posting! The same LGA and
PPA. I was very happy. We stayed in the same
room together and did things together”
I was really enjoying the discussion. I went out to
buy some pop corn and cold drink. The discussion
continued.
“We did all night together all through the days of our
service year. One day, she was trying to check
something in my bag. She found your Bible. She
asked me about it, and I told her everything. It was
then I got to know that she had a strong connection
with you. That made our friendship even more
stronger. She told me everything about you and
encouraged me not to give up. I pleaded with her to
give me your number, but she refused. She said I
was not stable enough emotionally to call you. That
sister can understand somebody perfectly” she said
and paused.
I ate my pop corn and drank my cold drink as I
paid rapt attention to her story.
“After the service year, I still didn’t want to lose her.
We had become so bonded together that I couldn’t
let go of her. I pleaded with her to come live with
me here in Enugu. She refused. I decided to take
the issue up in prayers. I fasted for it. Eventually,
she agreed. That’s how we became inseparable
sisters. Her parents agreed to her staying here and
my mum and Emily accepted her. Do you know she
will getting married next month?” She asked me.
I was surprised and the same time happy.
“Praise God! But she never told me about it” I said
“She told me to tell you today” she said.
“Who is the brother?” I asked her.
“One handsome and very spiritual brother. You
should know him” she said.
“Me? Know him?” I asked with surprise.
“Yes sir. His name is James Wilson” she said.
“Oh my God…..! That’s my AGC on campus. God is
great……! Oh…I bless God for them. But this sister
sha, she can hide things…..she didn’t even tell me
anything. Not even bro. James!” I said.
“It is well. We thank God for everything. May His
name be praised forever in Jesus name” Esther
said and paused while I said “Amen”.
I asked her how she became this rich just within
three years.
“Actually, I started working Immediately after my
secondary School. I did different jobs and gathered
enough money for my schooling. Before my
admission, I established a business of buying and
selling of house hold items. This I committed into
the hands of my mum and my sister, Emily” she
said.
I understood her because that’s the business her
mum was doing. They had grown to have a big
super market where different household items were
sold both in retail and wholesale forms.
She continued.
“So, as you can see, by God’s grace. Money is not
a problem for me now”.
At that, I bowed my head.
“How can I be a husband to a woman who is
independently wealthy? Me? A secondary school
teacher? I don’t even have a house on my own?
Ah….God….how do I even cope with all the
expenses of bride price, and all the spendings for
wedding and……” I was deep in thought. I didn’t
know she was observing me.
It seems she discerned my thoughts.
“Darling…..” She called in a very soothing and
wonderful way.
I looked her, but she smiled.
“When I was praying for a husband, I didn’t pray for
someone who will spoil me with money, but for a
man that would help me fulfil my Divine Mandate
for God’s Kingdom. I didn’t asked for a man with
mansion and cars, but for a man with Heaven’s Seal
and Approval. I didn’t fast and pray for a man with
Earthly Connection, but for a man who is connected
with God……..” She wanted to continue, but I
stopped her as I went on my knees in tears.
Her words broke me. Her statements shattered my
pride. I knelt down before her, but she quickly knelt
down begging me to stand up.
“Please, don’t do this…. please…” She pleaded.
I insisted kneeling down. I just can’t understand this
woman.
“Ah….God” I cried.
“I never knew you were this wonderful. I never knew
you will honor me this way with such a woman….” I
cried in praise to God. She too was thanking God.
We prayed and thanked God for His love and mercy
towards our lives.
“Ehm….. darling…. There is something I would love
to tell and show you” she said.
She stood up and led the way outside the house.
I saw a brand new car of the latest model.
“Ehm….I….ehm….I bought this for us. I wanted my
mum and sister to use the other one, while we use
this one” she said with her head bowed in humility.
I almost fainted, but I regained consciousness. As if that was not enough, she brought out some
documents and asked that I sign it with our names
on it.
When I viewed the documents very well, I shouted….
“Jesus, a three bedroom flat!”
I fainted……
