SISTER ESTHER (2)

“Sister Faithfulness…..what are you doing here?” I shouted.

“My GC……my GC….. What a surprise!” She said.

As I was about to move forward, I saw another sister coming out of the house towards sister Faithfulness. Her head was bowed somehow, but….

“Oh my God… it’s Esther Michael!” I said within me.

I stopped. Immediately, what happened during that day of the proposal as well as the trauma I experienced came rushing into my mind.

I became bitter within. I turned back and walked towards the gate.

I heard Esther pleading with a tearful voice “please, don’t go, please…”

I didn’t turn back. I was really bitter within. I left the compound and went home very quickly. When I got home, my attitude and cold response to my sister, Grace made her to report me to my mum.

“David, what’s it? Your sister told me you’ve been indoors in your room since you came from work. You refused to eat. When did you start behaving like this?” My mum said as she drew near to me.

“Mummy, I saw her today” I said with a sad mood.

“Who?” She ask.

“Esther Michael”.. I said.

“Praise God….Oh Jesus, you are great….but why are you behaving like this?” She asked me.

“Mum, I feel really bitter. What I faced those days when she rejected my proposal is now making me to feel bitter against her” I said.

“I thought you have grown, but now I see that I have to train up a man and not a child. Before I say anything, stand up and let’s go to the dining table.” She said as she tried to lift me up as if I’m still a baby.

“Ok…. okay….I can walk on my own, mum. Ah…. I’m a man now” I said pulling myself from her hands.

“No oooo….you are still my baby ooo. If you are a man, you will not be running from your wife-to-be after years of praying….” She said laughing.

After the meal, we went to the sitting room, and mummy took me on a long lecture on Maturity.

The next day, which was a Saturday, around 10am. I was called from my room that I had a visitor.

“I’m not expecting anyone. Who must that be?” I asked myself.

When I came out to the living room, I met sister Faithfulness sitting.

I was surprised. “How did she know my house?” I said but in a low tone.

“Emily gave me the description of your house, and I didn’t bother to call because I wanted to talk to you face to face” she said.

“Ehm….. sorry, I said” as I sat down opposite her.

“Good morning, ma” I greeted her.

“Good morning, brother David” she said with her usual smile.

“Ehm…. I’m very sorry for walking out on you yesterday” I apologized.

“There’s no problem, just that you left a lady in tears for doing that” she said.

“But….how come? How did you get to know her?” I asked curiously.

“Hmmmmm…..we actually met during the NYSC program. We served in the same place and lived in the same lodge. That’s how we became soul-mate, prayer partners, evangelism partners, name it.” She said as she relax properly on the chair.

“Wooow….ehm…what about the house? Chai….that house is another thing oooo…. I know… it should be your uncle’s own. My sister, I love that compound.” I said feeling really excited as I remembered the house.

“GC…..that house belonged to Esther…” she said.

“Chi… m’ ooooooooooooo” I said, my mouth opened with my hands on my head.

“Anyway, I’m not here for chit chat. What I came to tell you is that, please, go and do the needful. You know what I meant by that.” She said and stood up to leave.

“Ehm……..ehm….” I couldn’t utter what I wanted to say as I scratched my head.

“But…..you know from the way things are looking now, it seems I’m no longer within the range of her class and status. Just look at me now? I’m yet to even settle down. Not enough money, no house of my own….” I wanted to continue, but she stopped me.

“GC….. If you know what that sister has gone through because of you these 3yrs, you won’t be saying all these things. I won’t tell you about it. I believe she will be in the best position to give you the full details. At least, God has blessed her.

Listen, God understands what is happening. For Him to link your destiny with her’s wasn’t a mistake. Yes, I know you need money and other things, but I also know as a woman, that you have what it takes to complete that sister. I wish I could let the cat out of the bag, but I will be betraying Esther’s trust for me if I do that. Please, go and do the needful, my brother, and on behalf of Esther, who is now like a sister to me, I say, be fast about it. I’m tired of…..let me not talk…” She said and paused as she saw my mum.

My mum came out. She heard all our discussion.

“Good morning, ma” Faithfulness greeted her cautiously as she knelt down.

“Good morning, my daughter. Ah….are you about to leave? Please, just wait a little, I’ll soon be through with the food” she said as she looked at me trying to codedly asked using our sign language if Faithfulness is the one.

I quickly spoke out..

“Mummy, meet Sister Faithfulness. One of my sisters in school. Sister Faithfulness, meet my mum” I said.

“Ehm….. she’s about to leave now. When she come again, she’ll eat” I said.

I went with her to where a car was parked, waiting for her. Esther came out of the car. When I saw her, hmmmmm……love they say is strong as death….and many waters cannot quench it ooo.

I was like a child who just saw his mother come back from the market with enough goodies in the bag, but I have to control myself. I just smiled as I observed her.

Hmmmmm….this sister sha….. Like my pidgin English friends will say “she package die”

Let me not continue before somebody will say “Bro. David is becoming carnal”….at least it’s my carnality not yours….
