MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENT
[Martinâs Point Of View]
I am Martin Donkor, Sarahâs brother and a Physiotherapist at Ridge Hospital, Accra.
I told my father, I had something to discuss with him. It was about a bootylicious lady I met at the physiotherapy unit. She had escorted her brother to our unit because he had a sprain .According to her sister, he missed a step and fell from a staircase and sprain his ankle.
The first unique thing I notice about this girl was her naturally endowed backside and thick legs. She also had a gigantic front elevation and romantic eyes. At first, I wasnât attracted to her but she kept behaving like a cygnet, drawing my attention to herself until I became curious enough to want to know her.
When I got closer to this girl, I was amazed how friendly and easy going she was. She called me in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Sometimes, she even cook from her house and brought it to my workplace just for me to eat. She laughed at every small joke I made, some not really funny.
Though her style of dressing was a bit out of line, I never used that as a basis for judging her.
âWill you marry me?â I asked her one day, quite unexpectedly. She looked at me and smiled. I asked, âWhat is funny?â
âNothing, Martin, just that I knew your sister is in love with you and she doesnât like me. I was her senior in High School, and she saw me as a flirt, even a nympho.â
âWell, I donât care about that. What I want to know is your view on this matter,â I said emphatically.
âYES, I WILL MARRY YOU,â She said.
I was very happy. Three months was enough for me to make a decision to consider her for marriage. Now, I intended to introduce her to my father.
{Sarahâs Point of View}
Martin brought a lady to the house to introduce to our father as his Fiancée. When I saw the lady, my eyes nearly dropped out of my socket.
She was Claudia De-Craft, one of my school mates, my Senior in High school.
âWhat!!! How can Martin marry this girl? Claudia was not a marriage material to any man, let alone my own brother. She was a flirt and very temperamental.
Back in school, Claudia was a spoiled girl who believed in multiple dating. She was not a one -manâs lady. Her philosophy was that a girl need to have a main boyfriend and a minor boyfriend so that in case the main boyfriend disappoints her, she will fall on the minor one.
She had even proven this while in school by having her main boyfriend but was often seen in the company of other men of power and a high social status like school principals, MPs, Ministers, Directors, managers, and CEOs. She formed a group in the school called âSpicy Girlsâ and their basic objective was to date as many men as possible to acquire expensive material things which they could boast of.
Been a famous student in Christian High International school where ministers, MPs and Directors always bring their wards, it was easy for her to hook up with some of them. Apart from having a lascivious lifestyle, she was also temperamental.
For instance, she fought fiercely with a certain girl in her dormitory because the girl called her âcheap girlâ for snatching her boyfriend.
Her nickname in the school was, Cleopatra, the Queen of ass, because she had a huge backside and breast. Her natural endowment led to the fall of many great men in their desire to please her. They now live their days tasting the grass of poverty after been downgraded from Hero to Zero.
Since she was two years ahead of me in school, she completed earlier. As expected, she became a slay Queen, draining the bank accounts of rich Canal-minded men who lusted after her flesh.
Been a highly rated âSlay Queen âher name went far and near, making her very famous, even beyond the boundaries of her vicinity.
I knew she hid all these lion- like attitudes away from my brother, and pretended to be a sheep. I canât allow her to sink my brother into the rivers of deception, using marriage as her smokescreen.
âClaudia did nothing wrong â my sisterâs voice pierced through my thoughts again.
âShut up Manilla, and leave me alone! âI Shouted at her.
Nothing is more painful than getting emotionally connected to someone who does not share the same sentiments with you especially when those sentiments were considered inappropriate by the society. The next day I heard my brotherâs voice closer to my door, âSister Sarah, please open the door.â
âWas I having a nightmare? âI asked. Was he coming to tease me before tying the knot with that âJezebelâ who called herself Claudia? These questions warred through my troubled mind before I opened the door for him and said, âcome in.â He came in and sat on my bed. Then he began, âMy dear Sister, you know I will be getting married in two daysâ time, donât you? â
âUmmmm, yeaâ I excused my brother and turned on my laptop. I then scrolled through my musical collections in a folder on my HP Laptop West life, Britney Spears, Celine Dion,Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Shakira, Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, BeyoncĂ©, Trey songz, Ciara, Jaden smithâŠ.The list was endless.
I decided to narrow it down to cool music. In a situation like this, cool music will be the panacea to my mental turmoil. I picked my favourite Fanâs Music-Celine Dion, then skimmed through her songs with different love themes. At the end I decided to listen to the one with the Titled âTHE POWER OF LOVE. I clicked the play button and the music began to flow into the room like streams of rivers.
The Whispers in the morning
Of Lovers sleeping tight
Are rolling like thunder now
As I look in your eyes
I held onto your body.
and feel each move you made.
Your voice is warm and tender
A love that could not forsake
cause I am your lady and you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I will do all that I can
Lost in how Iâm feeling
Lying in your arms
When the world outside is too much to take
That all ends when Iâm with you. âŠâŠ.â
The words seemed to pacify my troubled heart. I felt Celine Dion had forsaw my situation and produced this song in advance to pacify my bleeding heart when it get broken, shattered or trampled upon.
The door was locked . I could force myself on him but he might react aggressively and push me off .
I canât live to endure a second embarrassment . The music was flowing in the background slowly.
He repeated the question , âyou know I will be getting married in two weeksâ time. Donât you? â
âYes, I doâ I said with mixed feeling. He looked at me with his sexy eyes, and said, âSarah, you said the â I do âas if you are the one I am going to wed.
When he said that, all the feeling came back to me. He was within reach.
Should I try once again? I remembered the saying, â if you fail once, try again. âCanât he just love me the way I love him?â When these unanswered questions flashed through my mind, my body began to quiver as if reacting to my desperation.
I said, âSorry Brother. I didnât mean it like that. I mean, I knew you will be getting married in two daysâ time to âŠ. erhh Claudia. â
âOkay, He responded,â that is why, I am here. I want to give you the chance toâŠ.â
âMake love to you? âI cut in, rather on impulse.
He looked at me with shock expression. His facial muscles twitched for a few seconds, and then relaxed again.
He said, âYou are still holding onto this fantasy, huh?â
Somehow, he wanted to say,â remember I am your brother âbut decided that rhetoric was pointless and was fast becoming a clichĂ©. Rather he said,â As I was saying, I want to give you the chance to be Claudiaâs Maid of honour.
I knew that once a person was in love, he became blind to the voice of reasoning. Love is blind until the realities of marriage opens your eyes. Nevertheless, I tried to warn him against marrying Claudia, a girl I saw as a nymphomania.
Me: Bro. Martin, Claudia is not a good choice for you.
Martin: How can you tell?
Me: She was my Senior in school and I knew her very well.
Martin: Yea, she told me.
Me: I see, did she also tell you sheâs a nympho and quick-tempered.
Martin: No, but she said you never like her and will try to bad-mouth her, which is exactly what you are doing now.
Me: No, she knew she is a bad girl, so sheâs simply trying to cover her tracks.
Martin: Even if what you are saying is true, everybody has a good and a bad part. Iâm sure you are not sacrosanct yourself. Are you?
Me: No, Iâm not but marriage is a serious thing. Donât jeopardize your future with this future-less girl. Donât let her curvy body and beautiful face deceive you. You wonât have the peace to enjoy them.
Martin: You sounded jealous.
Me: Well, Yea, I am. I wonât deny it but my jealousy at this moment was to protect you from that scruple-less girl.
Martin: Donât call her names. I love her and I will get married to her regardless of what you said so once again, I want to ask you again., will you be her maid of honour?
I agreed to be Claudiaâs maid of honour with mixed feelings and a string of bitterness. After chatting for another ten minutes, He left for his motherâs house. Prior to leaving for his motherâs house he asked me, âHave you read the storybook I gave you?â I answered, ânoâ
He said. âPlease do.â
âI will, brother,â I promised.
The music continued to flow in the background, washing away my sad emotion and re-echoing my brotherâs determination to carry on with his wedding.
âI have a basic philosophy: When I meet somebody, even everybody who Iâve been warned is not a very nice person, my approach is, there must be something nice in that person, and if you get to know the nice part of the individual, then you develop a relationship and a friendship that is invaluableâ- Gerald R. Ford.
