Episode 19

After a week at Vincenti’s house, Casey had enough. 8

The need for rebellion grew in her day by day, because who are they to dictate what is allowed and what is not? Her life turned upside down. From doing wherever she wanted to not being allowed to do anything.

She couldn’t even escape from the house like she normally would if Eliana was doing too much. Every time she tried to run away now, she was caught by a security guard and dragged back inside. It was like a well-guarded prison.

She needed to act. And the only option of getting out of here was unfortunately speaking with a person responsible for this mystery, Rafael.

On Friday, she willingly knocked on the door to his office.

“How can I help you, Casey?” He asked, looking up from his papers as Casey entered the room.

“I’d like to leave this house. Is it possible?” She asked through gritted teeth.

“Under certain conditions”

“What conditions? I want to go out, how fucking difficult does it have to be?” She yelled with frustration. 9

“I wanted you to follow the rules of this house. What was your response? “

“You’re joking right? It happened a week ago “

“My memory goes back more than seven days, and I firmly believe yours too. What did you say to me, Casey? “

“I said I don’t give a fuck about what you want”

“So, to quote the classic, why are you coming to me now asking for a favor?” Rafael raised an eyebrow slightly and stared at Casey, who was standing firmly and resolutely staring back, though with difficulty. 9

“Sorry, okay? Your rules are great. I follow them from now on, can I leave this prison now?” She lied between her teeth. 1

“I think you can stay here. After all, people don’t get to leave the prison only because they want to” 23

Rafael had a sick sense of humor. 1

“So when can I leave? Will you keep me here forever?!”

“Do you intend to be stubborn forever? If not, you have nothing to worry about. You can leave my office now. I’m busy,” he dismissed her, just like that.

After this conversation, Casey became furious. She came up with a plan that would make Rafael give up. On Saturday, she dyed pool water with a purple color, on Sunday she pushed the flower pot off the balcony “accidentally”, on Monday she broke four wine glasses. The worst thing about it all, no one was mad at her. No one paid attention. 93

Casey learned the hard way that Rafael didn’t care about material things. He never even raised his voice on her as she was trying to ruin his home. The moment he heard something is broken, he just ordered Alicia to fix it, without involving Casey in a discussion. However, everything has to end at some point in time.

That day, Casey was playing soccer indoors (tragedy guaranteed), she kicked the ball towards the glass vase with a pretty floral pattern, and with satisfaction she watched how it shatters.

“Hey, isn’t that the Ming Dynasty vase?” Shouted Remi who just entered the room.

Milo’s head emerged from behind the door

“Yeah” Remi agreed with his twin brother.

“So you owe us how much? $600,000? “

“Probably more”

“Stop making stuff up!”

A piece of porcelain can’t cost this much, right?

I almost got a heart attack when I entered the room just to see what my sister has done. I also overheard the value of the destroyed object and I dropped my teacup in shock. That got everyone’s attention. I am about to vomit. I would almost have fallen to the floor if I hadn’t been caught in someone’s strong embrace.

“What’s going on?” Rafael asked calmly. “Eliana, are you okay?”

I wasn’t feeling well, I wasn’t feeling at all. 3

Rafael slowly assessed the situation, looking at each of the children separately, as if he was making his mind on who to scold first,

“Casey, I think you’d like to impress me. I’m afraid you won’t succeed. Since it is so easy for you to destroy items, you will start working on replacing them. Report to Alicia tomorrow, she will tell you what to do. If you intend to continue acting like a five years old child I will hire a nanny for you” he paused for a moment to grant his younger siblings with a cold look; “Milo, Remi, stop riling her up don’t think your behavior goes unnoticed. Eliana, go lie down and rest” 10

“I’ll clean up here,” I said quickly.

“Are you defying my orders just now?” He asked in a dangerous voice. This is when I knew it’s time to leave the room, I muttered my apologizes and headed upstairs.

???

Casey entered Remi’s room.

“What should I do with your brother?”

“What?” Remi asked, but he was busy playing some shooter on the console. He didn’t even look at her.

“I know you don’t like me. I don’t like you either, but help me out with this because my constant presence must be annoying to you. Rafael doesn’t let me go anywhere, what am I supposed to do to make him fuck off?”

“Don’t curse,” Remi said irritably and threw the pad to the floor. He stood up and slowly started approaching Casey. At one point, he put his hand on the door frame and leaned towards her in an intimidating gesture, “Why would I tell you anything, huh? What have you done for me lately?” 8

“Have you ever heard of selfless help, altruism?” 1

Milo rolled his eyes in response.

“I’m not interested”

“So, what would you like in exchange?”

“If I tell you to do something, you do it”

Casey looked at him as if he had fallen off the Christmas tree, blinked twice, then turned on her heel and disappeared from Remi’s sight, who was now laughing loudly.

???

“Go away”

It was the first thing Milo said when Casey showed up in his room.

“I just have one question “

“I’m not looking for Jesus, bye” 36

“C’mon! One question”

“Am I speaking in Latin? Ask someone else and leave my room”

“Please?”

Milo sighed as if the idea of spending time with her brought him immense pain. 3

“What do you want?”

“Tell me, what do I have to do to make Rafael to get off my case?” 2

Milo looked as if he considered using force for a moment to get her out of his sight, but he let his initial idea go and closed the thick tome of his advanced biology textbook with a loud thud.

“Do what he says. That’s it, “he responded curtly.

“I said I would follow his stupid rules, and it didn’t result in anything”

“Stupid rules?” Milo snorted, “Rafael has a sixth sense if he knows you’re not taking his words seriously, you’re not getting anything from him. He will just wait until you break and start complying,” explained Milo as if it were obvious.

“It will never happen”

“Good luck to you then. Rafael is the last person you want to mess with, but whatever”

“By the way, what is your and your brother’s problem with me? ” Casey abruptly changing the topic. Casey asked, changing the topic. Let’s get it over with. She crossed her hands on her chest and waited. 7

“What?”

“I mean, you both act like assholes ever since I’ve got here, why?” 1

“I don’t know,” he stated sarcastically. “Maybe because you’re sleeping in my deceased sister’s room” 71

What did he just say? Casey paused for a moment, looking at him in disbelief. She had no idea Vincenti brothers had a sister.

“How? It looks like just a normal guest room”

“This wing was remodeled after Sophia’s death” 19

“I’m sorry for your loss and I don’t want to sound insensitive right now, but so what?” 71

“Excuse me?”

“I asked so what? Did I kill her? No. Do I choose to live here? No. Where is my fault in this, I don’t understand. So stop acting like a dick because my person has nothing to do with your personal issues ” 92

“Get the fuck out of my room before I hurt you”

This time it was Casey rolling her eyes.

“Grow the fuck up, Milo.” Casey said, and she made sure to slam the door loudly.
