Episode 7

Analysing events of the past few days, Tersoo and Godwin seem a bit confused. The case isn’t the vertical thick line they thought they could walk on without stress.

Stella still insists she knows nothing about the death of Jnr even though fingers point at her. Begrudging her friend for a long time only visit on the day her baby was killed in the name of reconciliation is not easy to swallow hook, line and sinker.

Sewe is a child, a very little one but the heart she has isn’t for children. What will you not expect from someone who could use a blade on an infant repeatedly no matter the provocation? If it were a one-off act, one would try to understand but cutting a baby, listening to his cry and still having the heart to repeatedly do it over again shows that she can do a lot more or worst than kids her age.

The couple have been going through really tough times but it seems it’s time to have a conversation with them again. When initially asked, they said they couldn’t think of any reason why someone would want to hurt their innocent child.

It’s time to pay them another visit, perhaps with the recent developments, something might have changed or crossed their minds.

” We were hoping to meet your husband at home as well.” Godwin starts when they have settled down.

” He left half an hour ago to see his uncle. Have you found who killed my son?”

” Not exactly ma but we will eventually. Just give it a little more time”

” You don’t understand. That boy meant everything to me”

Becky breaks down in tears ” Do you know what it feels like to watch your only child suffer in pain until he gives up? Jnr was all I had. The only palm kernel that shouldn’t be lost in the fire but mine is gone. Who did I ever offend oooo..”

Calm down madam. We know it’s not easy loosing a child not to mention the way you lost yours. I’m a father and I can’t even imagine it but put yourself together” Tersoo consoles her.

” I’m fine oo, I’m okay.” She tries to feign it and listen to them.

” We have a few things we would like to talk about. We were here the previously but your husband said you were on medications and bed rest. First off, did you at any point notice any cut on your son’s head?”

“Cut?”

” Yes, like a blade cut”

” Yes, not exactly I mean. I saw one some weeks ago but it wasn’t on his head. It was his finger tip and when I asked, Sewe said he sustained it while she was trimming his nails. I asked her not to use a blade again but always a nail cutter”

” Okay. The autopsy that was carried out revealed that he had little numerous blade cuts on his head. ”

” Goodness! My poor baby. How couldn’t I have seen? ” She wipes a year streaming down her left cheek.

” Tell us about Stella. Do you think she’s capable of murder?” Tersoo asks.

” I, I don’t even know what to think. She’s a good person but from the time we spent together, I know she can be a little over the edge if angry.”

” What do you mean by over the edge?”

” I mean temperamental.”

” Okay, was Jnr your first child? or should I say first pregnancy?”

” Yes, he was my first child.”

” Was he your first pregnancy?”

” That is a rather personal question officer. What has it got to do with my son’s murder?”

” Forgive my meddling into your private life but being a Christian, I think if one is capable of aborting a 7months old pregnancy, the person will be capable of doing a lot, don’t you?”

” Oh Stella. It’s her isn’t it? Why is she trying so hard to destroy me? What did I ever do to her? ”

” We are only trying to get to the root of this.”

“By asking me about one of my worst experiences in life and bringing back painful memories? Oh, Stella thinks she can make me look like a bad person then spin tables right?

Did she also tell you she was a member of a female confraternity during her university days? Did she tell you how she stabbed her ex boyfriend on the shoulder using a bottle and she was only set free because he didn’t want to press charges? Did she tell you why she’s not in good terms with her family and she barely visits home? How could Stella do this after everything I’m going through?”

The conversation goes on for another fifteen minutes. The officers are leaving with a lot of questions and full heads. It seems they haven’t even started anything at all. They resolve on doing background checks on all parties involved including Mr. Jason.
